The "L" Word

No, the "L" isnt for "love". Well, I suppose it could be. But I think the "L" stands for "lesbian". Because that is what the show is about. Showtime has produced a wonderful television show for Sunday nights. It is about a group of friends who happen to be lesbians. What I like about this show is how it takes you through all of their lives, giving insight on how it is to be a woman, and a lesbian. Their lives are pretty complicated, and so real when it comes to their sexuality. It doesn't portray a lesbian as your typical stereotype biker woman, or dominatrix-esque woman. Rather, if you watch the show, and how the women act, it's as if they aren't lesbian. Their roles are so real, it's just crazy to think that they are actually gay. Most of the women, if you look at them, you wouldn't be able to tell.

I just love the show. I love how it isn't fake or cheesy. I suggest watching it. The "L" Word airs on Sunday nights, 10 pm (Eastern).

I have to admit that it sounds rather like any other I suppose serial TV serial, with the added plot twist that all the women involved [at least the characters anyway] are homosexual. I'm not sure if the series will reach this side of the Atlantic, although a lot of other American serials like Sex and the City and Desperate Housewives have reached Europe [I watched neither of these shows but a dear friend of mine goes on about them incessantly making me want to throttle her]. If memory serves Channel Four [UK Channel] fiddled about with a programme called The L Ward, about a bunch of promiscuous lesbian nurses but I doubt it's the same.

Sounds hilarious.
I'd agree with Gav. It sounds a lot like any other real-life-esk TV show.
I seem to remember a show like this about a couple guys that were gay. It was a comedy. I didn't like it.

Not if you know Channel Four the way most people do, anything that has to do with "Lesbian" usually has a lot of sex in it. Recently for instance they were showcasing shows called "Sex in the [Incert Decade here]", for a long time the Channel Four late night watershed has been a haven for adolescent boys with a single sock. Though lately they seem to have cleaned it up and put on quite a bit of stuff that might actually interest someone other that a guy without a girlfriend.

Actually The 'L' Word has been shown over here, not on terrestrial television but on Living TV, which is a satellite/digital channel. I have seen bits, though regrettably not a full episode and from what I have seen it seems to be a very well thought out a executed show, not cheesey or smutty at all.

Exactly, this is precisely why I love this show. I missed it last night. But, thank god for re-runs ^_^ It shows tonight at 9 PM (eastern).

The show leads you to believe that it's actually real. All of the actresses are brilliant actors, and their sense of comfort with their roles is amazing. They all work really well with one another--being able to act so intimately with another woman is a very hard position in acting. And they all handle it with such maturity and seriousness. I believe that is why the show is not smutty or cheesey.

I cannot wait for tonight's [re-run] episode.

Ah well I don't have Living TV, as I don't have digital or satellite television, but it just shows that it was inevitable that the series would cross the Atlantic. I probably won't see it unless it's shown on another channel, but really I'm not bothered as I see enough soaps courtesy of my mother, grandmother and sister.

Indeed, it's sad but appears to be a rite of passage somewhat like what happens with the primate creatures in 2001: A Space Odyssey.Such knowledge comes with time or older perverted cousins who've used the Inernet to it's fullest entertainment potential. ;)
