My favourite? Rock, in general. You should post some specific genres there, but this is alright too. Artists include LP, Sum 41, Spineshank, and a couple of others whose names are not coming to my mind at the moment.

I did vote .... but chose a few.
I prefer to think of myself as a music fan who doesn't care about the genre, to be honest I seem to bounce around as my mood changes. Currently it's mostly alt. rock, industrial (recently dicscovered a new band called Jakalope ... thank you Mr. Reznor for pushing them in the right direction they are awesome) and old school punk I'm listening to. Now heres one I challange anyone to classify by genre, my alltime fav. band is TOOL .... just what genre do they fit into? Another band thats constantly falling back into favour with me is Pink Floyd ..... again, what genre do they fit into? Why should anyone bother limiting their preferences by genre? That usually just creates music snobs who get stuck in their own little corner of the art and miss out on a lot of potential good stuff.

I was going to mention my fav. guitar player (Robert Cray) but he's pure blues and bringing up someone easily classifiable would have taken away from the point I was trying to make in the disjointed mess I have above.

I do like rock, and I listen to it more. Classic rock, alternative, punk...it's all good. I also like the alternative rap group Gorillaz .

But deep in my heart, Gothic music is my true love. It just has this special quality to it. So different from all the other genre. :love2: If you haven't listened to it before then I highly recommend it. My personal favorites are Switchblade Symphony, Blutengel, This Mortal Coil, and the Cocteau Twins.

WORD! Tool is soooooo amazing! I have every album (yes, even Salival!). As for what genre they fit into... that's really a tough one. Progressive (Prog Metal) is where i'd put them. Anyone who's never heard Tool needs to listen NOW or your life will be incomplete.

Gorillaz isn't an alternative rap group. Sure, a few (FEW) of their songs have rapping in them, but they're just alternative. Most of their songs don't have any rapping at all (except for the album G-Sides, but those are mostly remixes done by rappers in the first place).

Since you probably know more about this than I, would you consider Lacuna Coil to be Gothic rock? I know their really old stuff was, but I'm not sure how you'd classify, say, the album Comalies.

It's been a while since I listened to any goth ... to be honest the only band name I can come up with right now is Bauhaus .But from what I remember it had a definite Industrial quality to the sound so if you're into goth give some bands like NIN, Skinny Puppy or Jakalope a try. You may be surprised and find something new that you like.
I voted "Other". And my "other" would be Progressive. With Dream Theater, Liquid Tension, Tool, and Pink Floyd[/B'] being in Progressive, how could I not love it?
How can you mention progressive, and not Rush!? They were the kings of Prog rock. Anyway, i suppose i should mention that too. I'm not really sure why i didn't before, it is a genre of it's own, i just lumped Floyd and Rush into the old rock category.

I listen to a wide range of J. Not quite sure if it's J-pop, J-rock, etc. I listen to whole lots of anime music. Got selections from:

Yu Yu Hakusho
Naruto
Inuyasha
Noir
.Hack/sign/lotTB

And many inbetween. Yeah...its a weird thing for a normal American to listen to, and most people don't know, but what the heck, I'm on a forum. It's not all I listen to. I listen to good video game music, and some contemporary rock. Not hard rock though. I'll listen to some Maroon 5, Coldplay, Linkin Park, etc.

Hm, I like all sorts of music, but I don't know how they would be classified as. I like the old songs. lol the 1990's music for alternative back then. Music now a days really suck and it's like anyone can just get up and make their own CD if they have the money. My favorite music is that classical music with that almost techno feel to it. I can't get enough of it.

LOL I love DDR music too! I was talking to a friend once saying instead of those goofy backgrounds for DDR they should have one with anime music videos to go along instead. Has anyone see DDR "Smoke on Water" with Kenshin? It's sooooo cool and recommend it to all.

But, I'm into anime soundtracks, foreign music, classical, any mexican guitar music, and techno.

Ja 'ne 4 Now!

I'm a hard rock, heavy metal kind of guy. A bit of modern soft rock mixed in with the hard stuff compliments it.

I hate gangster rap. All of these wannabes living in the suberbs rhyming about life in the hood, and gang wars, and pimping out their families and girlfriends, when they probably haven't even so much as even fired a gun before, much less at another person.

Well, these are the genres I like:

-Emo/Screamo
-Some Ska
-Hip-Hop
-Jazz (Frank Sinatra and what-not. I guess he's jazz, right?)
-Indie
-Rock

My sense of music is really, really, really random.

I listen to a lot of different things, but they're basically all different styles of rock. Metal, Hardcore, Progressive, Emo, and uhh... Rock! I also listen to some calmer stuff like Gorillaz and electronica artists. The best examples of bands I like are The Sound of Animals Fighting, and He is Legend.

Jazz.

It can be used for almost any situation. Fighting, hanging out, relaxation, sex, TGC's, Video Games, etc.

Cowboy beebop has some VERY good songs for jazz.

I also like other types as well, including (but not limited to) Rock, Techno, Trance, J-pop, J-Rock, Guiilty Gear (in a class all it's own, dammit), and Anime music (ofcourse).

Rock, metal, death metal, black metal, punk, emo, alternative, hair metal, goth metal (different than black metal?) anything that rocks.

I can't get into rap. Hip-hop, is, to me, the same thing. I can't stand it. Same goes for country. I like classical, because it's intelligent, the exact opposite of rap...okay, I'm not going to get into that, because I just won't stop.

\m/ >.< \m/

(After all, you can't headbang to rap!)

So can various kinds of rock. I use it when I'm doing my school work to help keep me focused, when I'm on the net killing time (I've got Rammstein blasting right now), when I'm hanging out and wrestling with my friends, and just about every other situation.

I think that if you really like a music genre, it probably works for everything just like jazz works for you. (except I have realy hard time imagining anybody getting pumped for fights over classical music or something soft)

I like old school/classic rock, whatever you would qualify Pink Floyd, The Who, The Beatles and Genesis as. Now they aren't technically "progressive", but they were for their time. And they seem to have put a lot more energy into their song-writing and performing than most of today's artist.

ESPECIALLY The Who.

I love any kind of music. From Bob Dylan to Mos Def to Larry Harlow to Miles Davis. I listen to mostly everything except Metal. I don't know why, but I can't get into it. I guess that kind of music is too 'hard' for me. But the genres that stand out most to me, and the ones I absoulutely love are...

_ Folk Rock
- Prog Rock
_ Rap
- Salsa
_ Jazz
