Burori
This just in. Not too long ago within three days ago I stumbled upon a haunting truth. The beloved Cookie Monster from Sesame Street has suddenly given up the ONE thing that made him who he was which we all loved as childen and that one thing is Cookies. That's right the Cookie Monster has givin up Cookies From one of the sources that I had read there is proof that the people who control the show is changing the food that he eats from cookies to veggies and fruits. Why? They claim it will lower the eating habits of the children. You know what my thought on that is? I watched that show religiously and I am still thin regardless of what I ate as a child now if they think this is a cause of the children's growth it isn't the problem is the parents not the poor Cookie monster....or rather who I should start calling the Veggie monster.... Thoughts? Cookie Monster no more?
Dragon Warrior
But he wouldn't be called the Cookie Monster then. He'd be called... The Veggie and Fruit Monster! This is an outrage. Why, if Jim Henson was still around, he'd give them a good ole fashion Henson talk! What is this crazy talk. Are you even sure it's accurate. That's like saying Abe Lincoln was a chick. It just doesn't work. I hope they don't harm Grover any ;_;

I mean that's like changing Ronald McDonald from a clown to an athlete in order to sell a new kind of burger, it's criminal and shouldn't be allowed. future girl
I always thought the Boogie Monster and the Cookie Monster were brothers. It seemed like a logical conclusion in my head... Anyway, I doubt any five year old is going to put down the chocolate chip and start snacking on celery sticks just because the Veggie Monster does it. That's ridiculous, not to mention how sad it is that people are openly admitting what a huge influence tv is on their children. I'd hope that my kids eating habits [and other stuff too] were inflicted by me and not some blue haired maniac.
Dragon Warrior
It's true what people see on TV is what influences them to do stuff (let's not get into the Jackass wannabes), and this definitely counts for little kids. Kids look up to what they admire the most and if they are in love with Sesame Street and the Cookie Monster, they'll mimic some things. But I still think it silly to change good ole Cookie Monster. Solution: Don't have cookies and junk out. Parent for once.
Baron Samedi
Under the circumstances, I firmly believe that Oscar should be forced to move out of his trashbin and into a proper home, so that children are not influenced to become homeless people. And Bert and Ernie should get their own apartments, because we don't want to encourage any possibility of homosexuality.
elflord9d
i agree. but cookie monster gave up cookies thats kinda hard to belive. in the xmas show he at paper a pencil a typwriter and a phone just thinking they were cookies! (ok now im prepared for the 'you watch that?' attack. i used to watch it every christmas eve up untill about 5 years ago. cookie monster ruled)

Yes, television probably does influence children...to a certain degree. However, if a child eats cookies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, (or between every meal) let's stop pointing the finger and blaming the poor Cookie Monster. We all know the truth. It is the parent(s) fault. It is the parent(s) job to make sure that their children have a healthy diet. It is the parent(s) job to just say, "No," when the kiddies stick their hands in the cookie jar. Besides, if it wasn't the parent(s) fault, who the h*ll is buying all this junk food and sticking it in the pantries of America? Dragon Warrior summed it up nicely. "Parent for once." I can just picture it now...Thirty years from now,I'll be a grandmother...Sitting in my rocking chair and telling my grandchildren about the "good old days." I can hear it now... "Back in my day, he was called the Cookie Monster. And the Cookie Monster ate cookies dagnabit!"

You are looking at someone who from the birth to death will always watch and love the Muppets. Of course Jim Henson also created the muppets for Sesame Street. So in short my only two favorite characters in the Sesame Street were the cookie monster AND Super Grover ANd when he was there the SWEDISH CHIEF!!! w00t!!!! But on a serious tone. I am outraged at this change. The TV isn't the problem the parents are for leting their kids get away with it. I understand the TV is an influence but the parent is the remote and should learn when to turn off this problem, not change a 20 year old tradition.... Dragon Warrior
Is it even the parents who complained about it or was this just an idea tossed around the meeting room for Sesame Street by some punk producers who believed they were being cunning? Nevertheless, it is the parents who should keep their kids behaving. I know plenty of parents around my area who don't do anything for their kids and those are the kids that cause trouble. Coincidence? I think not :^D And for the record: Blue Furry Monsters Rock Your Grandma's Sewing Basket! >:^D

Zephyr
I believe it to be both the parents (whom are dumb as rocks) and the producers ( whom also are dumb as rocks)
Now, now. Let's not go insulting others. After all, when the last time a rock did something bad to you on its own? :D I would think it would be more cost-efficient for the producers to print up a brief guide on better parenting, then smack the parents over the head with it when they blame Sesame Street for their f-ed kids. I do have a solution for the overweight kids that do not stop sticking their hands in cookie jars and blaming it one the Cookie Monster. Place a primed mouse trap in the jar. Sure the kid may lose a joint, or more if they're really stupid, but even they would learn to stay out of the jar. Of cousre you will need a few back-up plans in case they learn to avoid the trap. Perhaps something along the lines of the infamous Laxative Cookies/Brownies. Besides, if a basic primate can figure it out after the first few tazer shocks, even the youth of America can learn it (it just may take a few more shocks). :animesmil (I truly am sick and twisted)
PWNED
That is messed up, I used to watch Sesame Street all the time (And still watch The Muppets whenever I can) but how could the change the Cookie monster Gimmick? The Cookie Monster was the main reason I watched Sesame Street ( Except for Grover) and if they changed his favourite snack it wouldn't be cool, He would never ever sing the 'C is for Cookie' song which i loved and somehow " The Fruit and Veg Monster" doesn't have the same feel to it. Next thing you know They will make Elmo an Intellectual and Grover not be so Cool. And also Gemini?; Good Idea, Bad End Result but It is a good idea. JT Darkfire
I hate to admit it, but this does not surprise me.Sure, I'm outraged at the fact, but this kind of thing has been going on for a while . I used to love the show when I was little(and if the show happens to be on nowadays I pretend to be too lazy to change the channel), but this is just another example of WAY TOO MUCH SPARE TIME! And you know it had to be a vast minority of people complaining about the Cookie Monster. I still love the fearsome battle cry of COOKIES!!!!, and never heard anyone say to me "That there Cookie Monster is a bad example. Cookies? What's next, PCP?" Come on, people. Get Your priorities straight.

You'd think even the producers of Sesame Street would have enough sense to see that it'd ruin things. I'm sorry, but I'm thinking the information you found is false, Burori :) Unless you got it straight off of USAtoday or the official Sesame Street site, I'm not believing it. EDIT: Oh, and if Cookie Monster was changed, so many gigs would be ruined from his "C Is For Cookie" song as so many of you have mentioned to his role as Alister Cookie in Monsterpiece Theatre. This just isn't gonna cut it. It hurts the show more than it helps, so this furthers my point. Ailes de Velour
There might not have even been a Cookie Monster. The producers of Sesame Street were afraid that he would terrify children. But apparently, they were wrong, if kids have cookies coming 'out the wazoo. I saw one episode, recently, where he said he was giving up cookies and he put one on a rocket ship and shot it off into space. Now, what does THAT tell little kids? Build rockets out of cardboard and see if they fly when you light them up? Pssh, I think whoever is in charge of the Cookie Monster Resolution is being over-precautious. Dragon Warrior
I've seen that episode ages ago (because, yes, I do happen to watch the show in the morning while waiting for school to start), but he ends up eating the cookie or something. Besides, the new Cookie Monster isn't supposed to appear until the new season. I searched through the Sesame Street website and failed to find anything on this event. I went into further study by searching Google and was horrificly disappointed to find several news posts on various sites about the subject. They said Cookie Monster will be eating veggies and cookies will be a "sometimes food," or in otherwords, he won't be eating them often, but will still be Cookie Monster. Nevertheless, I'm disappointed :( I was hoping it wasn't true... looks like the 36th season of Sesame Street's gonna blow.
