Why were the anime archive boards closed?

The Anime Archives and Video Game Archives forums were created to store all the pre-version 7 threads that weren't current, and thus didn't get transfered over to the new Anime Lounge and Play It forums. Since the current thread system used in the Anime Lounge and Play It wasn't implemented until v7, all of those old threads would've created quite a mess when doing searches from anime/game specific threads. Hence they were moved into the archive forums for read-only storage.

Well, there's also the fact that certain forums had been exhausted. The DragonBall Z forum, along with several other series specific anime forums, were revisiting the same discussions over and over again. So, rather than delete those forums, or leave them open to continue that boring cycle, they were archived so that people could search through the information and find what they're looking for.

These three comments pretty much sum up the whole thing, as Desbreko pointed out, it saved the trouble of having to organise them into the new forums. As Charles pointed out some of older Games and Anime forums didn't have enough activity to warrant their continued activity separately. And as Siren kindly pointed out many of the Anime threads [and certain Gaming ones] were riddled with spam and as such did little but promote the reposting of the same thread over and over.
