Something lacking in theotaku.com...

I find that there is something lacking in theotaku.com. It's great that there's fanart, wallpapers, greetings, articles, and reviews for most of he animes, but what about actual information for the animes? What about character guides, images, summaries, episode guides and what-not?

This would be and incredible task to acomplish on this site, considering the huge list of animes, but if we got groups of responsible and dedicated members involved in collecting information and images for specific animes, we can make sites with actual resources for most of the animes, especially the really popular ones.

While this does not hold true for all of the animes, some of them do have their own sites. For instance, I found theOtaku originally when I was looking up information for Yu-Gi-Oh. theOtaku has their own Yu-Gi-Oh site here with a lot of the type of information you were looking for.

All you have to do to see if the anime you're looking for once had its own site is to go to that anime's hub. At the bottom of the description, if it had its own site, you'll see a link to it.

Edit:
I had some free time on my hands so I put together a list of all the animes that have their own sites. Here it is (with links):

Well thanks for telling me.

You have to admit though, the list still is a little small. There are many more animes that have yet to be covered, and higher quality images can be added to the existing galleries.

I agree with what you're saying but I wouldn't count on it happening any time soon. If you look at the addresses of the sites, they all start with archives.theotaku.com. This means that chances are, they won't be updated and new sites will not be added. It would seem that content for all animes relies strictly on the users of the site now.

We aren't going to supply all of that stuff in the future. To be specific, theOtaku.com is no longer a site where visitors read what we write, as such.

Instead, theOtaku.com is community-based. In the past we provided the articles, you read them. Now, the community provides all of its own content. In that way, theOtaku.com is like a big hub for a broad community of anime fans - it's a place where people can share and discuss their own work.

That includes articles too - you can upload your own and share them.

In this way, we are able to provide access to a lot more content than we would if we were doing it on our own. It also means that people have a great deal of direct involvement in the network - the community are responsible for making their own content, so it's all a community driven thing.

I don't think we will ever go back to the old way of doing things. There are times where we will provide things (like Panda's interviews and various other things in the future), but mostly we are providing a framework for the community to entertain itself. That's what makes us different from a regular anime news site, for example.

I didn't get to click on the other ones, but the archive link for Digimon doesn't work - it gives you the homepage for the archive, but brings you to the current Digimon page when you clicko n a link.

Due to the fact that I save weird things, I was able to bring up this thread (I don't suggest you post in it or you'll get in trouble). And it provides a link to this website: http://www.archive.org where you can search for old theOtaku stuff, including information from the different anime sections, and it actually gives it to you.

I wish we could have the information like we used to, but oh well. *sigh* At least you can still view it. =)

Of course the members responsible must be carefully chosen, just like moderators, and then, regular members can submit information and images of their own, which must be approved ofcourse. It still involves the community this way.

After all, the theotaku's slogan is "anime done right". In my opinion, "done right" means that the site would have resources for animes. Sure there are plenty of sites out there with all that stuff, but since theotaku is professional and focuses on quality content, it would be "done right".

Well, what you are suggesting is what we used to do. Our staff are all sourced from the membership.

Our site is a very specific kind of place. Anyone can go and read regular anime news, anyone can go and access episode summaries. Other people provide that.

We provide something more unique - a blank canvas for people to create various works to share. That also includes articles.

It might be possible to allow people to mass-submit things like summaries in the future (think GameFAQs and how they have multiple entries for one subject - ie: multiple reviews for one game). That kind of thing might be possible.

But I don't think we'll go back to the old way of doing things. Our site is designed to be built by every member, so that is why we have as few actual "staff" as possible on the core site.

Perhaps not immediately, as many hubs currently lack any rating, but I would like to be able to see more than one review per anime. It seems...awkward, that such a member-oriented site would provide one (almost definitive) review per anime.

I definitely agree with Lore, even though I don't visit the anime hubs of TheOtaku much any more it'd still be nice to get a few different perspectives on a certain anime as one person's description might not be the same as another's.

This is something I would love to see. More than one review per anime. I've been reading the reviews and some of them I would love the chance to write one as my opinion of the show in question is completely different than the one posted.

Also would it be possible to have a choice in submitting reviews that is similar to Miscellaneous Anime in the wallpaper section? I just saw the most amazing anime show the other day and I really want to write a review on it. The only problem was that when I went and checked the avaiable titles this show wasn't among the ones available. I thought that perhaps someone had already written one, but when I checked I didn't find a review of the show anywhere in the review section.

I'm sure there are lots of anime shows out there that people would love to write a review of that isn't in the current list of available titles and not among the ones that have been reviewed. Unless there is a way to submit one and I didn't see it. :animeswea

Agreed.

Currently, I'm wondering how manga fits into all of this. theOtaku.com has a Death Note hub--but thus far there have been no plans for Death Note to be made into an anime. So I was just curious as to how that relates to the grand scheme of things. Are there any plans for other stand-alone manga (that is, those which haven't been made into an anime) to receive their own hubs?

That would be fun! I've got manga series that haven't been made into an anime and I would love to see reviews of them and other stuff too. By hub I assume you are reffering to how you can pull up a section with all the e-cards, wallpapers, and stuff for a series, right? If so Miscellaneous Anime is nice, but frustrating as you have to hunt though a lot of stuff if you are looking for an e-card or wallpaper of a paticular anime or manga.

If a hub is added for a show or manga that doesn't have one, would it be possible to put things into the correct place? Though I imagine that would be quite an undertaking.
