Thread #2

These are all threads seeking advice, and believe me there are many more. I have done a little research on the Otaku Lounge; I have realized that there are many threads seeking advice. So this is why I think the Otaku Lounge should have a sub-forum seeking advice. It would be only appropriate for this thread. I am not sure if this idea will fly but I think the thread should go up.

Lately with the OB slowly changing into a bigger online community, so has the ideas of the member and new members alike. They are starting to become more open to the ideas of other members, so now they have started making threads asking for advice. Most of them being about love. Most of these threads live for a period of three pages, some of the members do get the answer they wanted, and some do not.

I would like the SA?s to consider this idea for a new thread. So, I would like to ask you, should there be a thread seeking advice of other Otakuboard members.

----------

EDIT: I am sorry but I lost one of the thread URL's. Sorry about that.

If they made an advice sub-forum, it would probably take half of the threads in the Lounge away form it. What would be cool is something like an advice column thread, where someone dedicated enough to answer questions (maybe even a team of people) could... be an adivce columnist.

Wow thats actually not that bad of an idea. Although I doubt the people that run this site will infact go for this. It takes a lot of effort and of course, I can see it turning out for the worse. It would lose the chance of regular members being able to offer their own advice to the person, as long as they don't take away the chance for members to give their own advice, this idea could be pulled off. It's a good idea, but it needs to be evenly divided and not just run by moderators. That would kind of limit everyone's freedom. Not fun for us members and means less advice for the person seeking it. Hope you get what I mean the right way. (this doesn't mean that mods wouldn't do a good job).

'Lately'? What is this 'lately' you speak of? There have been relationship advice threads at OB pretty well much since inception. It's nothing new.

Why do we need a sub-forum for it? Not to be nasty, but you'll end up with a bunch of do-gooders giving more advice than they maybe should. Especially with the suicide threads that crop up. If you made an 'Advice' forum, you'd get every man and his dog complaining. Doesn't sound like much fun to me.

I think the Lounge works fine in it's capacity right now. Why segregate things further?

My reaction to this idea is always simplistic; I just don't understand why people need a seperate forum for every little thing. Otaku Lounge is a social forum; I don't understand why people would need an entirely seperate area for talking about their problems. It would just spread the site thin. That's my opinion anyway.

The columnist idea is interesting but again--why? The idea of a social forum is that everyone should be able to participate and give advice. Almost every member here is equally as qualified as the next. Why over-complicate things? Again, just my opinion.

I agree with Charles, how many little sub forums have been put up and been left bare? I mean think about it.

Someone cries and moans for another sub forum for their oh so specific thread and then the second it is put up it will be populated by maybe 5 threads.

Like the Yu Yu Hakusho forum, each thead back then sounded pretty much the same.

The result was just a whole bunch of locked topics and a thinner spread forum.

As for the columnist idea, i think it would be arrogant of somebody to take on the role of being an advisor. What if the advice backfired? By posting a regular thread on a regular problem you get an onslaught of advice from everyone.

On another note, how will you be able to tell who the advisor really is? Ob is pretty diverse, what if you end up getting relationship advice from an eleven year old?
It just raises too many questions.

Otaku Lounge is a social forum and i think it is doing its job just fine.

I say if they give us an advice forum that is only the beginning.
Then people will want diffrent sub forums within it for diffrent kinds of advice.
Over examine things and we will end up with a bunch of empty sub forums.

Kind of like what Major Kusanagi said

over-specialize and you breed in weakness

I agree with Charles,Vegeta Rocker and, I hate to admit it, Baron Samedi. Creating an advice sub-forum will just create a forum which just repeats itself constantly and people may end up causing more damage to Otakuboards by taking half of the threads available in Otaku Lounge will most likely screw up both forums.
