Jake of Bodom
I wouldn't regard Rob Zombie and Linkin Park as anything but MEtal, actually. They just fit more into the Nu-Metal genre.
You regard "Nu-Metal" to be Metal? No. Nu-Metal is it's own genre entirely, completely seperate from the almighty holiness of metal. Yes, you're right: they're Nu-Metal. But no, you're utterly wrong, that doesn't make them Metal.
Also, you forgot about me, I listed some high-quality metal acts!
If you're referring to Norma Jean and Between the Buried and Me, Norma Jean is hardcore, not metal, and BTBAM is more like expiramental post-hardcore stuff, but they have a more metallic influence. Sorry to be so picky, guys, but you must understand how freakin' important this is to me!
Did I say Arch Angel? ROFL I meant Enemy. >_<
No problem. And Arch Enemy RULES! Their old stuff was waaaaaayy better though.
..except for maybe Tool, they're Alternative Metal).
No, they're Progressive Metal. Fyxe
Okay, but where are the metal bands you like? You said you like metal, but you HAVEN'T LISTED A SINGLE METAL BAND... Hmmm... again, only ONE metal band (Cradle of Filth). Wednesday 13 is as metal as Cannibal Corpse is teeny-bopper pop music. Hate to break it to you, Fall, but so far, every "metal" fan except one (TheAmazingZLJ) on here has proven you very, very wrong. YES! Finally! I think you're the only person who said they liked metal that actually listed some ******* METAL bands! Thank you! You are my friend, Mr. TheAmazingZLJ! As for me: METAL! I mean actual METAL, by the way. For example: Aborted, Abortion, After Forever, Age of Ruin, Amorphous, Amon Amarth, Angra, Anorexia Nervosa, Anthrax, early Arch Enemy, Arsis, As I Lay Dying, At the Gates, Avantasia, Behemoth, Beyond the Flesh, Beyond This Flesh, Black Label Society, Black Sabbath, Black Steel, Bleed the Sky, Blind Guardian, Bloodbath, Borknagar, Burnt by the Sun, Caliban, Candiria, Cannibal Corpse, Carpathian Forest, Cateract, Cattle Decapitation, Carnal Forge, Catamenia, Celtic Frost, Chimaira, Children of Bodom, Circle of Dead Children, Clifton, Cradle of Filth, Cruachan, Cryptopsy, Darkane, Darkest Hour, Dark Funeral, Darkmoor, Dark Tranquillity, Dead to Fall, Death, Demons & Wizards, Despised Icon, Devildriver, Diamond Head, Diecast, Dimension Zero, Dimmu Borgir, Dragonland, Dream Evil, Dredg, Dry Kill Logic, Edenbridge, Elvenking, Emperor, Ensiferum, Evergrey, Falconer, Falkenbach, Fear Factory, Finntroll, Fireball Ministry, Flowing Tears, Freedom Call, Geasea, God Forbid, Gwar, Haggard, Hammerfall, Heaven Shall Burn, Helloween, Human Fortress, Hypocricy, Iced Earth, Illicit Rite, Impaled, Imperanon, Insomnium, Into Eternity, In Flames, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Kamelot, Kalmah, Kataklysm, Katatonia, Khøld, King Diamond, Kittie, Korpiklaani, Kotipelto, Kreator, Lamb of God, Leaves' Eyes, Led Zeppelin, Lilitu, Liquid Tension Experiment, Lost Horizon, Luca Turilli, Lullacry, Lyzanxia, Machine Head, Manntis, Martyr A.D., Mayhem, Mercyful Fate, Meshuggah, Misery Index, Moonsorrow, Mortician, Mortiis, Naglfar, Necrophagist, Neurosis, Nevermore, Nightrage, Nightwish, Nile, Noctournal Rites, Norther, Nothingface, Old Man?s Child, On Broken Wings, Opeth, Pain, Paradise Lost, Passenger, Rhapsody, Samael, Sepultura, Shadows Fall, Sinergy, Six Feet Under, Skinlab, Skinless, Skyclad, Soil, Soilwork, Sonata Arctica, Soulfly, Spiral Architect, Susperia, Steve Vai, Stormlord, Stratovarius, Suffocation, Summer's End, Summoning, Superjoint Ritual, Symphony X, Theatre of Tragedy, The Black Dhalia Murder, The Gathering, The Mandrake, Therion, The Wage of Sin, Threshold, Today Is the Day, Tool, Tristania, Trivium, Tvangeste, Týr, Unearth, Vile, Vintersorg, Vixen, Warmen, Windir, Winds, Wintersun, Wolf, Zyklon, 3 Inches of Blood. There's some good metal for you. Sorry, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, stuff like that... it may be good (for example, I love Slipknot), but it's not metal. Please please PLEASE don't parade around tainting the name of metal by calling bands like Murderdolls and Linkin Park metal! PLEASE DON'T DO THAT! It's not metal. At all. Regardless of whether it's good or not (again, I like Linkin Park just fine), don't call it metal because it's not. Sorry to rant, but I'm so sick and tired of it! Fall said earlier in one of his posts "Heavy Metal, we all know what heavy metal sounds like". Obviously, we don't. In fact, I've rarely found anyone that wasn't an actual metalhead that knew what metal sounded like. It's the number one most misunderstood genre out there, I think. For example, most people associate screaming with metal. Yeah, metal has more screaming than most genres, but half the bands listed up there never scream at all. Secondly, metal is, for the most part, very very melodic. It's beautiful music a majority of the time. It's not just banging on stuff and screaming. The list goes on and on, but the point is this: I love metal almost to the point of a character flaw. I'm very passionate about it, and that's why I defend it the way I do. And I care so much about what is and isn't "metal" because I don't want people confusing the music I love with bands that aren't at all metal. In it's pure form, true metal is (in my opinion) the most amazing music out there. Hands down.
Hun, I think you need to calm down. O.o It's okay to correct people, but you don't need to get overly excited. There are a lot of different genres, and people get them mixed up, or, they just haven't been taught to such extents about a certain genre. I understand that you have a passion for metal, but next time, calm it down a little. XD Anyway. Yeah, I've been growing tired of my collection. I'm trying to search for new bands along the way. I just hope I can find some new things of interest. It's kind of hard on Sam Goody to find new stuff, since they don't let you listen to like... any of the song. XD I just heard that t.A.T.u CD again a few days ago. It's not actually that bad. Even though the girls were just faking being Lesbian. One of them is pregnant and they both have boyfriends... >> But they still have some decent tracks. That "Show Me Love" song constantly gets stuck in my head to a point where I just have to go listen to the song again. They seem to be more of a pop-y techno group. I used to think they were really annoying, but now I guess they are okay. *shrugs* Whatever. XD

If they think Linkin Park is metal, then that's it, there's so many people out there who are the same. I realise it isn't, and yeah, I can see it tears you down, but you can't change what others think is metal. This might be a "flaw", or a "mistake", maybe a "misunderstanding", but I do think "Nu-Metal" is a sub-genre of metal. Or atleast related to metal. It's one hell of a genre, and it's big, but I still think it's metal. Now, as much as you probably disagree with me here, and yeah, I am waiting for a huge disagreement to arise, I'm just stating my opinion. Jake of Bodom
Hey, I love some Nu-Metal bands. In fact, here's a little list of Nu-Metal bands I personally enjoy: Otep (well... I only like the first album) Ill Nino Gizmachi Slipknot Linkin Park Mudvayne Mushroomhead Spineshank Motograter etc. There's great Nu-Metal out there. But you can't honestly tell me that if I thought that Cannibal Corpse was an R&B group, then they're an R&B group. Just because someone thinks it's metal doesn't mean it is. That's exactly the sad thing about it - there's so much great metal out there that no one ever gets exposed to because they're told that (IMO) crap like Marilyn Manson or the Murderdolls are metal. They think that's what metal is and never bother to take a second listen tol metal because people think that's what it is. This is why it matters so much. I hate it when people ask me what I listen to, I say metal, and they say stupid **** like "oh, so you like, like, Slipknot? I heard that Duality song once... pretty scary with the masks and stuff. Yeah, metal scares me." Slipknot is great and all, but it makes me sad when people think that's what metal. And the public does view this as metal. It's a terrifying, depressing thing. And most the people who are into Nu-Metal don't even know the roots of metal to begin with! Somthing like: (Me) "Oh, so what kinda music do ya like?" "Metal!" "Like what?" "Linkin Park and Slipknot and Korn and the Murderdolls and... blah blah blah" Then I try to talk to them about the roots of metal and they say: "Iron what? Which Sabbath? Judas who? What are you talking about?" This is very sad - but NOTHING beats this: Someone actually said to me "Iron Maiden isn't metal at all! They don't even scream!" That, my friend, is pathetic, sad, and above all, it's heresay. I couldn't believe someone would say that. That's why it's a problem. Look, if you don't care about subgenres, that's fine. If you don't think there's a definate "metal" or "not metal" that's fine. But please never ever say that if someone thinks it's metal, that's OK. No. It's not fine. If I said that Korn was J-Pop, you wouldn't be too happy. You obviously don't care about metal, but look - it's an honor for those very few of us who do. This is why I'm arguing so much with you. Like I said, there's some truly terrific Nu-Metal bands out there - but you talk to any true metalhead, they'll tell you it's not metal. You see, metalheads have to truly defend their beloved and sacred music. It matters because sometimes it's all we have. It's a beautiful world unto itself, and I hate seeing it corrupted. That's why I care. That's why it matters. I'm going to be as opinionated and argumentative as I want about it - it's my lifeblood, my escape from all the **** that goes on around us everyday. The only thing that's truly pure to me. I love it's purity - the integrity it has that so many types of music never will. This is why I'm so passionately stated on the subject. And I also realize that some these are your opinions. For example: just because your opinion is that the sun was actually crafted from the butt-cheese of a thousand elephants by a giant cross-dressing traffic light doesn't actually mean that the sun was crafted from the butt-cheese of a thousand elephants by a giant cross-dressing traffic light. The sun is a giant sphere of burning gasses any way you look at it. This is fact, regardless of opinion. Just like the fact - FACT - that NuMet isn't metal. It's not a matter of opinion at all. It's a fact. It's not my opinion that NuMet isn't metal, it's just a simple fact. I just wish it didn't have the word "metal" in the title... that really confuses people. Onix
My music tastes really rum the gamut. It's really wierd, and people tend to look at me funny if I list all the things I'm into, especially because I don't even look like I like some of it. I go around looking like your average grunge/rocker, but that is not purely the case. In fact, here's a sampling of tunes from my playlist, in order - Show Me Love - TATU (Kind of pop-ish, angsty, romantic, techno influences) Bring 'Em Back Alive - Audioslave (Alt. Rock, semi-Country influences) J-E-N-O-V-A - The Black Mages (Techno, Video Game background music) Sea of Time - The Beatles (Classic Rock) The Real Folk Blues - Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts (J-Pop with Jazz/Blues influences) Hangnail - Nickelback (Southern Rock) Poison Heart - The Ramones (Old-school Punk Rock) Road Man - Smash Mouth (Pop-rock with Reggae and Salsa influences) You Can Be As Loud As The Hell You Want (When You're Making Love) - Avenue Q - Comedy The Mirrior (Angel of Music) - Phantom of the Opera (Opera, obviously) Path of Destiny - Soul Calibur II (Orchestral) Teenage Lobotomy - The Ramones (More old-school Punk) The Man Who Sold the World - Nirvana, Cover of David Bowie (Grunge) Furasshubakku - Asian Kung-Fu Generation (J-Rock) Simmer Down - Mighty Mighty Bosstones (Ska) It's the Law - Social Distortion (Modern Punk Rock) The Wind Cries Mary - Jimi Hendrix (Psychedelic Rock) For You - Smile Empty Soul ("Angst Rock") Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) - the Offspring (Punk/Rock) Fever! - Orange Range (J-Rock/Rap) So, as you can see, my tastes vary quite a bit, from grunge to old-school punk to J-Rock to Reggae to Ska to Orchestral pieces. I'll listen to most anything, really, exempting Country, most Death Metal, and most Pop music.

Snarktastic
I like music as long as it has the following: 1) A melody, and 2) A harmony. Now, please bare with me as I make some sweepiing generalizations on my favorite artists. My favorite group of all time is the Beatles, obviously. Why? Because they evolved. They didn't stay in one mode too long, because they were allowed the freedom to change and grow -- from covering R&B to aping Bob Dylan to really coming into their own as songwriters and artists. Paul McCartney is still kind of a douche bag, though. I've gotten into mashups recently -- my favorite is the Beastles, which is the Beastie Boys remixed with Beatles backing tracks. Really yummy to me, but I'm all about the cut-and-paste culture. The CD I'm really digging right now is "can'tneverdidnothin'" by Nikka Costa. She is, I think, the closest thing we have right now to a Prince-like artist. She can go from rock to pop to R&B to funk without so much as batting an eyelash -- and it all feels real. Speaking of Prince -- he's the greatest artist from the 80s, without a doubt. Michael Jackson was a total pansy compared to Prince. Stevie Wonder (during the 70s, at least) was one of the best songwriters around, hands down. He's still one of the best love song writers, if not THE best. Take a listen to "I Believe" or "Knocks Me Off My Feet" if you don't believe me. Though I will admit that Stevie Wonder was at his best when he was singing like Donny Hathaway, one of the most underrated artists of all time. You know who else is underrated? Ben Folds. Yeah, yeah, he had that hit "Brick" with the "Five" and all, but... I hate "Brick". The first five years of Elton John's career make up for the next twenty-five years of his career. I seriously cannot listen to much of his music beyond 1975. Nellie McKay sings like Doris Day -- if Doris Day performed after more than a few drinks and had a healthy fascination with democratic socialism. You think I'm joking. I liked The Postal Service before a lot of people ever heard of them. This makes me feel indie, which makes me feel pukey. ...Okay, I'm done. For now. I just wish it didn't have the word "metal" in the title... that really confuses people.
Fact all you like, it's your opinion. It aint a fact. "NuMetal" CAME from metal. Where else would've it originated from? Not fu_king rap or pop. That's for sure. The music orginated from metal. Even some rock. Listen to the music of every single "NuMetal" band. It's HEAVY. Maybe not as heavy as "true metal", but I don't care, it's still heavy. None of that tapping and whistling and "bopp"in' going on. But even so, that's my opinion, again. I think, or believe is a better word, that metal sparked "NuMetal". KoRn is a different story, Hip-Hop may be a factor in their music. May be in alot of "NuMetal" bands. Hip-Hop, Rap, whatever, but there is no way possible, the music of "NuMetal" came from anything else other than Metal. It's related to metal, because of that. Don't say it isn't, because it is. Just because "NuMetal" might sound a bit different, mightn't have the same "meaning" or some bullsh!t as metal, it's still related to metal. My opinion. What I think. What I "believe". What I like to think my music as. Different or wrong as I may be, you're not going to change it. I've been "believing" this for as long as I can remember, and not because some other bullsh!t-artist told me KoRn was heavy-metal. Because I think so myself. There's not one person in my family that likes this kind of music, and only 2 of my "everyday" mates are really into it. And they haven't played one single role in what I think or believe about this kind of music. I don't like people saying something is a fact, when it's clearly not. As much information you've got, as much research you've done, it doesn't give you the right to say "NuMetal" isn't metal. Because it is clearly related to metal. The "roots" of "NuMetal", are in metal. Sure is. Sure, "NuMetal" is "lighter", it's "less-heavy", whatever you say, but it's still related to metal. It came from metal, it's related to metal. Don't matter if some band wants to base their music on Hip-Hop, that means sh!t in my opinion. Opinion. Again, that's my opinion. Not once have I said otherwise. Nothing will change this, it's what I believe, it's what's my view. It has been for as long as I can remember, and probably always will be.
