Akieen Cloud
Jura looked at Cain and sighed. "I know you were just protecting me Cain. It's fine...don't be sorry." She looked around and pointed to a ridge. "When we get there we can take a break everyone. Becareful, it's gettign steeper. If your horse stops, get off and go on foot, make your horse follow you, you'll need it on the trip down the other side. Trust me." She looked at Cain and smiled. "I love you too Cain. We need to get them there first, then we'll talk more. Promise." He nodded and follwed her.
Knuckles
He followed next to her. He looked around. "It's so quiet..." She looked at him. "It's dead here..." She said. "I noticed. Damn... Becareful, please..." He saw how steep it was getting. "We are going to have to all work together on this one." He continued to follow. He kept his eyes out for anything out of the ordinary. missrelena
Shea'ann reached out with a detect magic spell. It was just too quiet. No birds, no animals, not even the sound of the wind blowing. Nothing. She searched the horizon, both up the mountain and behind them, looking for anything with the tell-tale glow. Behind them there was a small glint, but it was growing larger as she watched. "Jura," she called. "There's something magic coming at us from behind. I'm pretty sure it's unholy, but that's all I can tell." "Damn it to the ninth level of Hell." Jura cursed. "I had hoped we'd get a bigger head start that this. Okay Ky, Vice, time to earn your keeps." she called out to the rogues. "Get back there and scout out what you can see. The going here is starting to get really slow, so don't take your time. Find out what's following us, then get back here and report. We'll find someplace farther up that's defendable and wait for your return, but we won't wait all day. Get going!" she barked. Vice nodded, then turned to speak to Hue for a moment, then wheeled his horse around and headed back and off to the right. Ky also nodded at Jura, then turned to Shea'ann. "You keep your head down and stick close to everyone." he warned her, grey eyes serious. "You know you're a target, don't make it easy for them while I'm gone." "Be safe." she told him, wishing he didn't have to go. "Hey, this is what I do, remember? I'm the sneaky guy with the tight leather and all the knives." he flashed her a grin, then wheeled his own horse around and headed back and to the left. "I love you." She whispered as she watched him ride off. "Everyone else, keep heading up, but stay on the lookout for someplace that will grant us a margin of protection while we wait for the scouts." Jura instructed the rest of the party. The way was rocky and steep, and they had to walk the horses to keep them from injury. They were making headway, it was just slow. Too slow. Jim_Hawking
Ky rode out about two miles from the rest of the party. He wasn't sure what the hell he was looking for, but figured that since the magic Shea'ann detected was unholy, he'd find something evil before too long. "Hmm...she said it was unholy right?" Ky pondered as he rode by another adventuring party. The air around him suddenly grew cold after passing the other group. He turned around and saw that the group was shambling as they walked. "Hmm...unholy...undead..." The gears in his mind were operating at 10% capacity as he kept thinking about that group he passed. *Click* "Zombies!!! Seriously, how the hell did that take so long to come up with?" He turned his horse towards the group of 'zombies,' but as he dismounted and looked at them face to face... "Oh..uh.....hi?" It wasn't a group of zombies, but rather just a bunch of really weak and pale adventurers. After helping them regain some of thier strength (at the expense of most of his "Cure Critical Wounds" potions) Ky made his way back to Jura and the others "Shea, are you sure you didn't misread that? Because I didn't find a damn thing out there." "Well, it's certainly possible. Unlikely, but still possible." "Uhh...speaking of which, where's Vice?" missrelena
How could I have read that wrong? Shea'ann thought to herself. Detect Magic is a baby spell. But, Ky wouldn't lie about something that important. She shook her head, then decided to try the spell again, to see if she sensed the same unholy presence. She stopped walking and her horse seemed to appreciate the halt. Summoning her power slowly, to make absolutley sure she got each step of the spell right, she cast another Detect Magic. Well, I can't see that unholy spot anymore. she mused. This time everything radiated magic, from Shea'ann's horse's mane to Jura's saddlebags to the rocks they walked on. It all had the signature glow of magic. "Well this can't be good." she sighed. "Um, Jura?" she called out. "Yeah?" the elf answered. Shea'ann got her horse walking again and approached the party captian. "Maybe I'm not as important as you hoped. Either the vision I had this morning has thrown my magic out of focus for the day, or we're up against a really powerful magic user." She went on to explain the results of her second spell. "I don't even know if I trust myself to do any healing, for today at least. Not until I know if my magic is reliable again." She appeared a bit crestfallen as she admitted her worry. "I'm sorry. It seems you've been saddled with a useless cleric." She looked down and began twisting the rubied ring on her finger. "I'm sorry." Jura nodded. "I'll see what Cain can make of this. Don't give up on yourself yet." The elf gave a half-smile to the cleric, then picked up her pace so she could converse with Cain who walked just ahead of them. "I just hope Vice gets back soon from that wild goose chase I sent him on." Shea'ann sighed. She looked over her shoulder at Ky. "I'm sorry about the snype hunt, dearest. I really did think I saw magic out there, but apperantly it's just my magic on the blink. Now I see magic everywhere." "No worries." he replied. "Outings like that keep me on my toes." She drooped a bit as she stumbled along up the rocky slope. "You're too kind to me." "Not, yet -- but I'm working at it." He smiled, and Shea'ann could help but give a small smile back to him. Akieen Cloud
"Cain you think it's one of the wiards?" "I have no clue love." Jura smiled inspite of things. She tunred to look at the others when she saw Vice tearing through the canyon yelling something, everyone was coversing tried to figure it out. "HUSH!" she listened carefull her elven ears picking it up easily. "Minators...MINATORS! RUN!" Jura's face tunred pale as the lage creature cam from behind Vice towering way above him and his horse. "Oh my god." Cain looked like her, palem and frightened. "They never come this far into the canyon. Something is driving them mad." More had shown behind the first, the hals man, half bull creatures looking wildely for prey with their glowing red eye. "Everyone run, we cannot fight them there are to many and to few of us, plus something is driving them crazy. We cannot stay here. RUN!" she tunred her black horse as it screamed in terror of the oncoming danger and spurred it forward, it needed no second telling. Her and the horse were barreling down the canyon as fast as they could, til more raors came from the other direction, minators were surroundingthem on both sides. Ky swore and out She'ann in the middle. "I think we found what you felt dear." She nodded, looking terrified. Jura swung her horse around even as it protested. "We have to get somewhere to make a stand. And quickly..." She spotted a small cavern in the wall to their left. "In there!" they sped for the cave and half way in had to get on foot and lead their frightned horses through, the ceiling being to low to ride, they met a dead end at the back. Vice looked at Jura. "Just great, now what good Leader?" She grabbed his shirt front and lifted him from the ground he controled. "This is noe time for your smart mouth Vi e. We have to think on a way of getting out of here, We can fight while you work on a hole in the back wall with your power." He nodded as the first minator came through, the group was on it killing it quickly but more replaced it, they fought hard now, they were after all fighting for their lives. Jim_Hawking
Ky pierced the right eye of a charging minotaur with a throwing dagger, causing it stumble and fall at his feet. "EAT THIS, BITCH!!!" Ky screamed as he delivered a coup de grace killing blow to the helpless fiend. "Now I wish I hadn't been so nice to those damned losers!!!" He felt the ground rumble as another minotaur's lifeless corpse fell behind him. "Pay more attention, Rouge." Jura said. "I'm trying! There's just more enemies than I'm used to!" As he's trying to fight them off, one minotaur gets a lucky shot in and sends Ky into the back of the cave wall. "Wanna try that again, punk?" Ky staggers to his feet, wiping a fresh trickle of blood from his mouth. "Anyone spare a cure spell?" He blocked another attack with his rapier. "Focus, Ky!" Shea'ann yelled. "Please don't make me use one of the wishes in the ring." She prayed quietly to herself.
missrelena
I've never fought minotaurs before! Shea'ann's mind raced, trying to remember if they had any weaknesses. Where could this many have come from? She soon exhausted her arrows, and drew her thin blade. The whisper-thin steel may have been increadibly sharp, but it didn't look like it would do much to their hulking opponents. But instead of jumping into the frey, she took a small vial from her belt pouch. She glanced quickly around to make sure that no enemies were immediately planning to attack her. Being the cleric, other party members tended to shuffle her toward the back, away from the direct line of fire. . . FIRE! That's it! I'm an idiot! First, empty her hands -- "Ky!" she shouted. "Cure comming at you!" She hurled the small bottle of Cure Moderate Wounds at him, and he caught it without so much as a glance. Rogues are so amazing. Then, she thrust her blade into the ground. Gripping her holy symbol in her hands she shouted to the group at large, "Move back inside the mouth of the cave!" With that, she began her prayers, gathering up all her magical energy and strength that she had left. She couldn't even spare a hope that everyone had heard her and had done what she had required. Upon the completion of the specific prayer, she called the Flame Strike forth from the clear sky. A curtain of fire poured down on anything outside the cave, incinerating the weakest of the minotaurs and at least wounding and singeing the rest. Shea'ann held the spell as long as she could, but let it drop before she ran out of energy. There would be healings needed later if they survived this chaos. She swayed on her feet a bit, but remained standing. Jura raised an eyebrow at her. "Handy." she smirked. "Yeah, but I didn't kill them all." Shea'ann pulled her sword out of the earth. "And I can't do it again today. I'm just glad it worked at all." "Any help is good help, Love." Ky said. "Oops, here they come again."
Kayin Cloud
Hiro looked on as the minotaurs poured in. As each one entered, arrows were shot from Hiro's bow. He reached to his back to find that he had run out of arrows. Not at a time like this!! He thought as he put his bow away and drew his sword. He attacked each Minotaur that came through, not always finishing it off himself however. Whenever Shea'ann dropped that curtain of fire to take care of most of the minotaurs an idea rushed into his mind. "Everyone clear the mouth of the cave now!" Hiro concentrated hard as he pressed his hands to the ground. As everyone cleared a minotaur started to enter, only to be crushed by the earth beneath it and the cave opening as the top of the mouth closed down upon it. Hiro held his hands to the ground in order to keep the barrier strong. "So...you can manipulate the earth?" Jura said upon watching this feat. Vice continued his way through the back wall. "That is right....So why didn't you use that power to make us a back entrance Hiro?" Hiro looked back at him, "Don't worry...I'm using earth from back there to replenish the wall so it should cut down some time....However...I don't know how long I can hold this up...." Cracks started to appear in the barrier. "Especially against these monsters..."
PWNED
Daergar was exhausted. He had ran for what seemed like hours, from the caverns underneath the mountain all the way to the town of Lonelywodd, running bearing half a dozen minor wounds suffered from multiple encounters with Goblins. He hadn't had enough time to dress his wounds so by the time he had stopped at the Inn his blood was mixing in with his sweat but he couldn't stop, Milianas life was in danger so he couldn't take long. Daergar smashed through the door of the Inn and hit the stairs at a run, ignoring the angry shouts of the man on duty. He stopped at the top of the stairs and kicked down the door into Milianas room, being shocked to find what he found. Milana was just hanging from the roof, held up by what seemed like nothingness. "Milana!" Daergar cried, "Milana wake up" but there was no answer from her, It was as if Milana had died but was still alive. He was furious that this had happened to her and was full of rage when a voice said from behind him "She will not survive" Daergar spun around, a snarl on his face and weapons drawn, to face this new foe. This served little more to amuse this entity, bringing a smile to the face of it. This was not a pleseant sight because of the large fangs that jutted out of its upper jaw. "What fell beast of the Abyss are you?" The only human in the room asked, feeling a sense of ancient power from this thing. "I am...... Power, Terror Incarnate" The creature rasped loudly, causing Daergar to flinch as each word was spoken. Daergar considered his options, His rapier and daggers were no weapons against a fiend but there was little chance of escape. He still hefted a dagger with one hand and hurled it straight into its mouth then rushed foward with his rapier flashing. The thrust did nothing because before the blade could connect the fiend had summoned magical energy and blasted him all the way across the room. The creature stomped across the room and grabbed him around the midsection and began to squeeze. Daergars one free arm swung the rapier like a madman then slashed right across the throat of the creature. The thing hurled the thief across the room, heavily into the wall and reached up to grab its wound. Daergar was in trouble however, His rapier had snapped cleanly when it exited the flesh of the demon leaving him with only a dagger. As he backed towards the mantle piece; searching for anything to use as a weapon his hand closed on the hilt of the sword that Milana used to wield, drew it and swung it wildly, The sword slashed through the midsection of his foe. Daergar didn't know that the sword had been charmed by some of the greatest mages of the realms so it had certain powers that he was not sure about, As the sword cleaved through the fiend, the magic shot up and down his spine as the wound that it inflicted froze up. The fiend howled as its lifeblood spilled and its form faded into nothingness. But this power was too much for him to take and Daergar tubled foward, unconcious before he even hit the ground. "So" He told himself as he began to fal,l "This is how it feels to die." OOC: I've decided to leave this RPG for a while, I'll probably repost when I have time for it. missrelena
The pounding from the other side of the stone barricade became louder and faster, as if several monsters were teaming up to pummel the rocks. With his divided efforts, Hiro looked about ready to drop from the strain. "Hey Hiro, why don't you let Vice use his earth magic to work on a back door while you just concentrate on holding the front door closed." Jura suggested. There was a reason why she was in charge. "Hiro, would it be possible to use your magic to turn the rocks in the center of the wall to compact sand while leaving the outer layers stone? It would be like three walls, one of rock, then one of sand, then one of rock again. Could you do that?" Shea'ann asked. "I suppose so," Hiro repiled through clenched teeth, "but why?" "Humor me and do it. Leave the rocks closest to us and the ones closest to the minotaurs alone, but turn the center layer to compacted sand." The cleric understood the strain he was under. If her idea worked, it would save them energy and time. "But . . ." Hiro started to protest. "Just do it. I think I know what she's got in mind." Cain told him. Shurgging, Hiro closed his eyes and concentrated even harder on the mass of stone before him. He felt the shift, and then the cave suddenly got extremely quiet. "So, what just happened?" Ky asked. "The sand in the barricade absorbs all the force of each hit. Those minotaurs could pound on that wall all day now, and not get any closer to us." Shea'ann explained. "It's like padding under your armor. It takes the brunt of the hit instead of your ribs." Cain continued. "So this will buy our earth-movers some magical effort that they can now use on the alternate way out of here." "So untill they get smart enough to start digging, we can do some digging of our own. Get moving!" Jura commanded. Then she turned to Shea'ann. "Where'd you learn the sand trick?" "Oh, a cleric I met in the Snowflake Mountains named Cadderly told me about it once. He said that was the best way to build a wall if you didn't ever want it knocked down." "You mean you've never done it before and seen it work?" the elf demanded. "Well, no, but when the High Priest of the god of learning and knowledge tells you something, you can usually take it as fact." she admitted. "Well, warn me next time you're going off a theory that you've never seen work before, okay? Now, I think some of us a bleeding." "Okay, I'm on it." and Shea'ann began looking for those who needed her help.
