Anime Best Anime Girl Tournament R2 M5: Sango (Inuyasha) vs. Rei (Evangelion)

Demon Slayer vs. Angel Slayer! Its time for match 5!

My only rule is to not spam up these threads. Don't just post the character that you voted for's name. If you're going to say who you voted for, then explain why you voted for who you voted for, even if that explanation is just quoting someone that shares your sentiments. It doesn't need to be complicated. Even something as simple as "I voted for Asuka because she has a lot more spunk than Rei" or "I voted for Asuka because she has a lot of spunk" will work. So long as it has more substance than "Asuka" or "Asuka's better", its fine.

Who's going to win? I'm going to have to say Sango. She has a lot of fanboys around the net, probably more than any other Cartoon Network anime character, and it looks like a good amount have found their way here. Further more, R1 M10 made it clear that not everybody here likes Rei.

(I'm getting tired of seeing these fat, sweaty, acne covered dweebs ruin my favorite anime characters with their crappy cosplaying! I think that I'll just have to attend the next anime convention in my area with a tazer and have myself some fun. Trashbag-totting nerds, watch out!)

Sango's my favorite Inuyasha character. Why? For starters, she doesn't have any special abilities. She manages to be just as effective as the rest of the group with just her boomerang, and sometimes her sword or poison. That giant boomerang is a plus too. Cool weapon. She's also the strong level-headed type, the only time that she looses her head is when Kohaku is involved. And who can blame her? I'd want my brother back safetly too.

Rei's probably the most overrated anime character out there. She's Evangelion's resident enigmatic chick. She's always quietly sitting in the background, philosophising and taking, and not really doing anything else. She's interesting at first, but as time went on and still nothing happened with her character in term of revelations or even character developement, I stopped caring. Eventually she stops being mysterious and starts being boring. Her Evangelion, Unit 00, is also the worst of the three. Did I mention her intense look isn't anywhere near as scary as Asuka's? That look wouldn't make even the most skittish person jump. On the plus side though, she is intersting (and cool) towards the end, and she's also the most graceful character on the show. She's just nowhere near as awesome as the fanboys would have you believe.

There may not be as much to be said about Sango, but I still like her more. She gets my vote.

Eh... they're about equal on looks. Maybe Rei looks a bit better, because of the red eyes. But then again, I always got annoyed whenever they showed the back fo Rei's head. That hair annoys me. Yeah, they're equal.

XD) Not only is she pretty, but she's very strong with her Hirikodes, or giant boomerang. Also, she's got Kirara, the kickass cat demon! She's fierce, strong, and can deal out a mean slap. I really never got into Inuyasha, and Rei was one of my favorites from NGE so i'll have to vote for Rei. What i liked most about Rei is that on the surface her character was very mild and plain. She never really spoke out for herself, always did what she was told and aside from being a eva pilot her existantce meant pretty much nothing. But as the series went on she turned out to be one of the most interesting and complex (and even a bit disturbing) characters in any anime out there.

[spoiler]She had no past and no furture and was merely a tool created by NERV to be used as a Eva Pilot and she was also created partially for the reason that Ikari Gendo was inable to let go of the death of his wife, Yui. But it was once Shinji was introduced into her life that she began to change. He showed her that there is more to life than following orders and doing what you're told. She began to speak out for herself and against others and she appeared to be developing feelings for Shinji, and even ended up sacrificing her own life in order to save Shinji against Gendo's orders. Although it became apparent that not even death was enough for her to escape from her meaningless life. [/spoiler]

I love both of the series and i respect sango character for what she is trying to do as a human with no extraordinary powers always trying to help to the ones she loves. Yet, when i look at how the characters fit in the plot sango seems to be one of those cute sidecharacters (far too ordinary in a sense) but Rei is different in terms of her character and her line of thinking that keeps her alive. She did change by the end of the series; she turned out to be a different identity, an "actual" individual, got rid of someone else's shadow(like Ikari's mother). She is freaky with the way she questions her existence and i simply love her for that. She asks really bold questions to which she has bold answers. Every human needs to feel special and yet even with the lack of this feeling she could develop some sort of self-undestanding and accepted her feelings by simply trying to understand them. That is why my vote goes for REI.

Whoah, Rei is beating Sango in the Polls? Anyway I am voting for Sango because I found Rei a dull and uninteresting chracter throughout Neon Genesis. To tell you the truth I haven't seen enough of Inuyusha to know about Sango but I prefer anyone over Rei.

While Rei does have an interesting story surrounding her, she isnt' particularly intersting herself.

There, I just summed up just about everything that Rei says throughout the series. That does not qualify as interesting in my book. She does give a small speech about what's going on in the movie, but then, she wasn't just herself at that point.

That's not Rei. That's Misato. And yeah, she'd get my vote too. Misato ties with Asuka as my favorite Eva character.

[SIZE=1]Sango? No. She's just some supporting character in the most filler-fied anime on the planet. Inuyasha has so much filler, you forget what was going on in the first place. Sango's lame boomerang can't defeat the coolness of an EVA either. Bam.

Sides, [spoiler]Rei sacrificed herself to destroy an angel, and in End of Evangelion, changes the world to a place with limits again.[/spoiler] How awesome is that? C'mon.

[COLOR=#503F86]Having never seen Inu Yasha, I can only rely on the pictures that have been given to me to decide who I think's better. And 'best' covers many different aspects, so I can't see why this can't be based solely on appearance and stuff I've pieced together ^_~

Well, Rei has always been one of my long-standing favourite character designs, and also a character who I'm partial to anyway. It's been a long time since I watched any of Evangelion, but I can remember liking her anyway. Sure, she lacked a certain amount of warmth most of the time, but the quietness was something I could really identify with.

Surprisingly, Sango sounds like one of the more interesting characters from Inu Yasha, although that's about all I can say about her at the moment. I think her boomerang's impractically large even though she has a cool-looking demon to support her. And Kirara looks a lot nicer than Eva-00, Rei's accessory.

But her hair's not a style that I really like- angles and spikes work best with me, as opposed to straight edges and curves. So, almost purely on that basis Rei gets my vote. Sorry for being so superficial, heh.[/COLOR]

Edit: Solo, I changed the tournament from "hottest" to "best" because best is a broader term. If you're a girl and don't really have an opinion on that sort of thing, you can go purely off character. Or if you haven't seen either series, or like (or hate) both characters equally, you can go purely off looks. Or you can take a combination of the two.
