Guest Sean
Now, my utmost apologies to Kitty for the space between the challenge and this thread coming up, but my schedule (ahem) has been pretty busy, and alot has been happening, but it is completley my fault for the delay, and I appreciate your patience. Now, as most of you know, Kitty is amazing, she just is, just check out her thread to see how awesome she is. But on with it! Now, what am I asking for in this battle? Well, simple, it can be abstract, or it can have a real feel to it, it can be a real person, or a drawn out image, completley up to you. But we're going to have one basic theme which we have to focus our main piece around. Music. Just music, you can add whatever you want to that, be it people, music notes, or song lyrics. Deadline is Monday 4th July. And, may the best GFX Creator win. ~_^. -Sean.
Kitty
Finally. Geez, Sean. What have you been up to? =P Just kidding! Really, though, I'm glad to see the thread (finally) up. The theme is music, eh? Sounds easy enough. x3 I'll have my piece up soon. And yes. May the best GFX artist win. ^_~ EDIT: My Entry Aha! Mine is complete! I made it a bit big, but you didn't give specific dimensions, so it should be okay. (Unless you're a meanie head that'll make me do it all over.) xP Now I'm stuck waiting for yours. No fun! (Just kidding, of course. <33) Can't wait for this to get started. ^_^
Guest Sean
Kitty, *bows*, this is simply amazing. Looking at mine, it is not even half the piece you have created, but indeed I shall post it. Good luck Kitty, and, I think we'll let everyone decide now. My Entry: So, everyone, please vote and make your critique on the pieces, thank you.
Boo
Tiger, your's was really nice. Great blending of the images and the lyrics. I like the Logo aswell, but like I said the "MUSIC, take a listen" looks quite bad ;( I wont say what I love most in the banner cause that would make me "go with the flow" ;_; Shawn, Nice colours, but too much white and black though and it's really grainy p_p I like the music thingies though. If you made the colours gray, it may look prettier :3 My vote goes to Kitty.
Haze
Kittty: Your peice takes me back. It reminds me so much of the old-school rock and roll times filled with the Rolling Stones and all the other "clasic" rock bands. It just has that classic look to it. Makes me happy. ^__^ I really really like the headphones; they were a nice touch, and I'm not certain if it was intentional but you can kind of see these whisps of white that come out of the guitar in the background to surround the headphones. It looks really interesting. I think that the text for "music" could have been better. It just looks odd to me...maybe it's just the font. You also could have done something to make it pop out at us. The lyrics were a nice touch as well, although I might have moved them a bit to the right so that they just went right off over the side instead of ending abrubtly. The only other thing I could think of would be the fact that it's incredibly monotone. But then again, if it had a bunch of colors it would lose that old-school style that I love so much. *shrugs* Sean: Meh. The colors are there. That's a plus. I do agree with Boo on the excesive white and black. The white space is alot. I think that yours could have easily been fixed with something flashy in the bottom right corner where all the white is. If I had the choice, I would have taken a stock of a guitar player, then made it all one color, probably black, and stuck it in down there. It would have been a nice touch, something that may have caused it to win my vote. Or you could have even made the text for flamboyant ( >__> ), just anything so that it had a focal point or something that went "hey look at me." I will say that I really do like those black boxes that you have around the text in various places. The placement looks kind of random, and it makes a neat effect. You might could have changed the sizes of the two surrounding "05" so that it didn't look boxed in. Your peice looks good, but it just doesn't look finished. It's like you have the background to a really amazing peice...you just don't have that final touch on it yet. Satisfy my curiousity: what music is that? I swear I've seen it before, but I can't place it. ;__; So my vote goes to Kitty. Why on earth did I talk so much?! >__<
Retribution
I shall cast my vote forth! Kitty Your piece is good, with simple black and white. However, it feels cluttered on the right side of the banner. There's grunge floating around, and no sense of unity to it. But I definetly like the icon on the left side. Too bad you didn't make it. =3) But the typography "music" was good. Sean Your piece was good as well, with a different approach at depicting your feelings towards the subject. The sheet music in the back was good, and so were the colors on the blackness. I'm actually thinking about how you made it, which is good. Yes, the typography is a bit bland, but things are clean, organized, with a given focal point and a sparse use of color. Interesting. My vote goes to Sean. How's that for going against the grain. =
Annie
Forgive my short explainations, but I are injured. Leg-humper, I loved your pic. Very mellow and smooth. I like the silver, and I definitely love the lyrics you chose ^_~ The logo, I liked, as far as the style goes. But, I think it coulda been a darker shade of gray, or black; it blends too much into the background. Sean, I'm in love with yours. I like the black top, and the intense white, and between that, a burst of color. To me, this placement shows me that music is power enough to burn through darkness. Your expression flames with powerful color, and the grain effect looks like the colors are vibrating with a noise you hear only in emotional/moving music. I love it. So much passion, so little hand mobility to give a proper critique. My vote goes to Sean.
Onix
Well, I have been asked to cast my vote, so I shall. And let me tell you - it's a hard decision to make. Kitty - Mmm...silver...Er, sorry. Okay, I love the logo, first of all. You really made that thing look good, and, as was said earlier, it really calls back to the classic rock bands. The background is solid, and the lyrics (Guns 'n Roses, nice touch) are put on very well. However, like Retri said, the typogrophy seems out-of-place; something shiny and new in a banner that looks, for the most part, grungy and old. Still, you get bonus points for all the silver. Sean - While there's no silver, it has something else I like; strong contrast. And this is about as strong as it comes. Your banner switches, quite well, I might add, from the jet black to nearly retina-burning color. Like Goddess mentioned, it looks like the music is burning through the darkness. And the logo looks just...awesome. In addition, the sheet music looks good, if a little too grainy. You both rock, and it's a very, very hard decision to make. But, in the end, I must cast my vote to...Sean. For one simple reason - it was slightly more cohesive. Kitty's had that little...jolt from the typography, while Sean's pretty much held together as one solid piece. So, I wish I could vote for both of you, but Sean wins out in the end.
sakurasuka
Kitty- Wow, this has to be one of your best pieces. I love the logo and the background. (Not to be a broken record, but) Like Retri said, it is a bit over-done on the right side. The black just contrasts too much with the light gray. It looks fine in the top right, but it isn't as thick with black strokes up there. Maybe if it was blended a bit better... Also, you might have wanted to go with a plain 2-dimentional looking font(s) for the 'Music, Take a Listen' text. The 3-d-ish look doesn't fit the theme at all. But the lyrics were a nice touch. Sean- I like the colors. A lot. Again, I'm being a broken record, but it really does look grainy. Something else I would suggest is making the piece more banner-like (Cropping out the large areas of black and white) to focus on the colors and music notes. The font is pretty plain, but it matches, so I can't complain. There really is no focus, though. It is hard to make an image where the font is the focus. You did it pretty well ^_^ However, my vote must go for Kitty, merely because I think it flows better. Kitty, you are a genious. *Notices both Sean and Kitty are tied =)*
Stuart
Kitty : Very absract and well put togher. I just about everything about this piece expect for the shiny gray text that was used for "Music". The headphones and the iineligible lyrics running sideways was a really nice touch for the theme given. The different depths of gray and the abstract designs really gets me into it. Sean : This piece is also nice. I enjoy the color blending you used and your chose for colors. However, I don't like how much it's contrasted and how it looks burned. I would of suggest just a bit of a smoother job. Your chose for the text used with "Music" is black and quite plain which doesn't bold well. The three black bars along side it though Is a noticable touch. The sheet music theme is also pretty cool, however it just isn't enough for you to get my vote. I vote in favor of Kitty.
Guest Sean
Now, it is Sunday 3rd of July, and we've got a split opinion on both of the pieces. 4 Votes for Kitty, and 3 for Sean. Kitty's pieces is amazing I must say, and I'm personally not sure why I wasn't owned in the voting, but bleh. I'll leave the voting to continue till Wednesday and then we'll declare the winner. So, erm...yeah. Continue voting? Yeah that works. >>;;
Engel
Kitty: Ayia....I'm a sucker for classic rock, as your's seemed to be themed around. The drab, dark, bleakness of it all, is actually quite impressive, and captivating. I don't especially like the "Music-Take a listen" part, the whole font style and such doesn't stick with the classic rock mode. Very good, however. Sean: Buddy, ol' pal...I love the somewhat dark palate of your colors, even as they vary, it still gives it that sort of "Just look" feel. The sheet music idea was good, bonus points. >_> A bit grainy at times, you still managed a fusion of old, classical music, and the dark undertones of today's culture. My vote....Sean
Bullet Theory
Kittie: Your's was very well put together. The color scheme flowed throughout the piece and, as everyone else has said, gave a very "classic-rock" feel to it. But also, as everyone has said, that text didn't fit well at all. The "Take a Listen" didn't sit well with me, either. 8/10 Sean: Your piece was awesome. I loved the black and white at the top and bottom and the explosion of color in the center. The text at the bottow was well chosen. It is somewhat simple, yet extravagent. 9.5/10 My vote: Sean
