The lovely Taki is an amazing chica to be. She is fast as all get out, and she has that lil, "hey im gonna jump over your head really fast and mess with your head"- move, and it is amazing. She is great at sneaking in and BAM, smackin ya a couple times. Plus, i know girls have to be jealous.. lol

I think my best character in SC was Astaroth. I don't know why but I just understood how to use him best from the get go. His attacks are just so brutal and violent that I couldn't NOT use him. I found it easy to fake out people and trap them in his various throws. Especially the longer range one that looks like a low sweep with his axe. The one where he snaps the opponents back across his axe is also funny, since the match would end there in a real fight, but hey it is a video game.

Soul Calibur 2 is the only fighting game I own, but boy is it great!!! The thing about its characters is that though there are plenty of them, I find myself only able to play with certain ones.

My ultimate favorite is Seung Mina, her spears are magnificent for they are very fast and have a long range. Kilik, the staff-user, is pretty similar, but IMO his moves require a tad more technique (a skill I unfortunately don't have - I'm an honest button-smasher! :toothy: ).

Other characters I feel comfortable playing are Talim, Raphael, Cassandra, Nightmare and Yoshimitsu, all are either very fast, have high defense or long range. Oh, and Yoshimitsu is just too hilarious to be surpassed. :p

Then there are the characters that I just can't get working! Astaroth is one of them, he's just tooooo sloooow! And Ivy with her whip-sword requires too much technique in order to get her to hit her opponents, and same goes with Maxi's nunchucks. Heihachi (I play the PS2-version) has too close range, although his fists are deadly. And Xianghua (which I prefer to call Xiang-ho) is just too damn irritating and totally useless! Honestly, she's a bit more faster than Cassandra, but Cassie outmatches her in strength and defense, so why would I even bother to use Xiang-ho?

But all in all it is one great game. Nevertheless I doubt that I will buy SC3 when it comes out, for it seems just too similar to this game (only three new characters, what's up with that?!), but we'll have to see about it...

I love SC2, because each charecter, having unique wepons and body type, have a different feel of control. I feel extreamly comfortable with Maxi. The speed and agility are really controllable items for me. In the same aspect, I'm comfortable with Raphael. Probably only because I've actually handled and used the rapier. On the other hand, I feel very comfortable with Nightmare. His attacks are slower, but if you know anything about timing, you can use him greatly. I love beating the quick little chicks with him. I have friends (more like co-workers who invade my house when my brother's gone and can't kick their *****) that come over and think I'm cruel because I'm throwing this little chicky across the room with this huge guy. Then I look over at the sexist bastard and remind him that I can throw him across the room like that if he'd like (he knows I can.) and he shuts up.
I don't like using the girls often. Every now and then when I'm fighting the bigger, slower guys and I'm getting sick of using Maxi, I'll use a chick. But I don't feel comfortable with them. The most creative charecter, though, in my opinion was Yoshimitsu. I love him. I don't like to use him much though, but I can. His specials are kick *** if you can manage to use them. <3

I have many characters, actully. Nearly all of them. But my favorite would probably be Kilick. He has that staff, and can hit you multiple times very quickly. He also seems very peaceful and calm. I practice with a staff, that's one of the main reasons I like him. I like swords too, but a staff can be a fatal weapon if you know how to use it. I think that staff helps represent his personality. Kilik isn't a kind of guy who enjoys fighting, he only tries to do what he thinks is right, and his staff represents his feelings of non-vilolence.

My favorite Soul Calibur 2 character is Yunsung. When ever I'm using Yunsung I feel unbeatable.I mainly like to use his grabbing attacks and kicks.I'm mainly comfotable with this character because it's easy to adjust when I use him.I usually get my highest hits and combos when using him.His weapons are pretty good.Like his invisble long sword which makes things to easy though.

(Professional SCII player... BEWARE!!!)

I use mainly Ivy, Raphael, and Talim, but I've been using Talim less and less and replacing her with Nightmare or Cervantes.

Ivy makes it really easy to bring opponents closer to you. Usually, when the round begins an Ivy player uses 6B+K, which either brings the player closer to you, or does a powerful throw that moves your opponent with his back exposed. I perfer 66A+B, which accomplishes the same thing, just a little slower, but it has more of a horizontal aspect which makes it harder to dodge. From there you can use your A+G throw and back away using 4B. That's more than half your opponent's life and it's rather easy to use, unless your opponent ducks for the throw.

I use Raphael against slower opponents, making him almost impossible to hit due to his multitude of parrying moves. Other than that, i use the same moves as everyone else, including the round-beginning QCF+B, which is a very fast, very powerful attack.

Talim's fun because she's fast, side-steps well, and she has that very useful flipping attack (6B+K) as a defense.

Nightmare and Cervantes are great because they have a lot of knockdown attacks that make them very easy to use.

My personal favourite fighter is a three way tie in between Kilick, Talim and Raphael. I do not have too much of a soft spot for really hard hitting chracters or slow attackers because I prefer light but quick hitting characters such as the three I mentioned.

Kalik is preferred over Seung mina just barely ecause he hits slightly harder but at no expense of speed.

Talim is straight up there for obviously reasons, she hits faster than nearly any other character even though her short range. Her hits can overall deal more damage than a few other characters because she can land at least three hits per one opponents hits.

Raphael i have chosen for the same reasons as RiflesAtRecess as well as because he is awesome.

I favour nightmare, because he has awesome power in his moves, and has awesome dilogue lines (you conceited wretched human!! XD) and Xianghua because she is quite fast, most of her moves are sword twirls, which can disorient the person you are playing against, and has cool dialogue (here's another, just kidding!)

I have lots of faves for SC2! I love that game! I play it all the time!

I like Link because he has arrows and bombs and a boomerang. I also like Kilik he has that awesome staff which is really good for long range, Yunsung has really powerful kicking attacks, and Talim is really fast. I'm best with Link ^_^

I like to use Link, but he's really cheap; all those projectiles and that throw of his make it too easy. So my main is Nightmare (just so awesome), then Talim (been using her since I first got the game, good speed); I use Mitsurugi as well since his sword techniques are pretty fun.

I myself prefer Nightmare due to his strength and high defence. I also beleive his biggest drawback is his speed in attacks and in his defence, but if a tactical person gets ahold of him and trains a bit they can be very worthy opponents even to people like Raphiel,Taki,Talim and Kilik.

Kilik.

Good range, good power. He is an all around good player and if you are good enough you can keep people from ever touching you by deflecting, dodging and then smacking them, plus his long range pokes make people furious! Some say he is way to cheap, but I don't think so. He isn't anymore cheap than, say, Taki or Talim. In anycase, I play as Kilik.

Kilik, Link, and Taxi.

Kilik because in "Soul Blade" for PS1, I used Seung Mina a lot, for I liked the staff. I didn't play Soul Calibur 1 because never had a Dreamcast, so I was really happy when watching the opening FMV and seeing a DUDE when a huge staff!!! But later I unlocked Seung Mina and got mad. I usually use Kilik in his costume with the Cape instead of the jacket...

Link because he's the freakin' Hero of Time! And he looks awesome in this game! I loved the BigGoron Sword, but I think you got hurt when you swung it cuz it's so strong-like.

And Taxi, because I used her it the original Soul Blade... I was so happy she had all her original PS1 moves so that I still rocked with her... :D

Oh, and I had the Gamecube Version so I was able to be Link, and my older brother had the Playstation 2 version, so I could still do the moves. I wish I had and Xbox so I could be Spawn and see how he played... :animesigh

Tch. Forget Nightmare. Siegfried is where it's AT, baby!

No, really, Nightmare's third outfit and his Soul Calibur. Above-average attack power, defense, life, good speed, and HEALTH RECOVERS. People always say Nightmare is slow, but when I see them play, they don't know how to fight with him. If you use his moves right his is a devastating monster. If you use his moves right AND you perfect his timing, he is an unstoppable killing machine. I mean it. I have literally gone over sixty three-round matches before without losing a single match before. Go over to a friend's house, invite some people over, pop in the game, and have a blast.

I'm not going to lie. Nightmare is cheap. Has the longest reach aside from Ivy and Link, is as powerful as Astaroth, and can match almost anyone in terms of speed if you use the right attacks. He also has an instant block and can guard break on more than half of his combos. Add to that his insane reach and he can deflect people's attacks before they even get near him. Even with his Joke Weapon he is a serious threat.

Kilik, Raphael, Taki, Maxi? Please. He can match any of their combos with a K > Sidestep strafe > A-A-B [hold]. That puts you in his lower stance, where you can either hit A and do a low leg sweep that can't be guarded against from a standing position, hit B and do a lancing stab that's almost impossible to guard/deflect, or do forward B and do an overhead somesaulting slam which can break most weapons' guards.

He can easily outdamage the likes of Astaroth, Necrid, Berserker, and Cervantes because of his comboing abilities, whereas you'll be lucky to get off four hits with those fools.

His only real match would be Ivy or a good Kilik/Seung Mina or Mitsurugi with Masamune, but even then, you can't continuously attack, and deflects can be disasterous in a high-skill fight.

Nightmare lives up to his name, I assure you.

PS: Godel, yeah, Yunsung may have a smart mouth on him, but just watching those splits makes my eyes water.

I second the motion of the splits and the eye watering. Trust me, your not alone with that. And um, YOU HITTIN ON MY GURL. Oh, hecksey naw, lol. Ever heard, well, you might have seen it, of Taki's lil thing called Wind Roll? Oh, it brings salvation to all take players. You use that, and you can roll to either the left, right, or right straight in, dodgeing most attacks. Then you can add in either A-B-A, A-A-A, A-K-A. Its such a variety, and it ends up cutting away at lil Mr. Seigfried.
"OH, ya, my namen is Siegfried, ya. OOO, Taki is strong, ya." <( in high German accent). Don't get me wrong, but for me, Nightmare is too slow. But then again, maybe it's because i havent ever used him, besides when i get desperate in conquest and need a strong guy who can throw up. LOL, i meant toss up. Anyway, well, i hope i informed you of some of the strengths of taki, that kick arse ninja. Anyway, have fun, maybe you can beat more people next time. Nice to see such a strong soul calibur fiend. LOL

Seigfried was my best in Soul Edge/Blade. ^_^ Nightmare is a great character, I'm good at making people stay down with him, since he has a lot of moves that leave opponents helpless. That quick uppercut of his (3A, I think) catches people off guard very easily. He can definitely hold his own against any character but I think Cervantes is a little better than him, since he has trickier moves and better speed. I also find that Nightmare telegraphs his moves a lot, making it easier for the opponent to tell when to guard impact, which is bad... He does have a few fake-out moves that keep opponents on their toes, though.

Evil Eye is one of his deadliest moves because it starts off as a regular swing, but is an instant stun and there is hardly any time to guard break. Same thing with his grabs, he doesn't require much movement to get a hold on someone, whereas most characters need the swinging animation to grab someone. Nightmare just reaches out.

God, I hate Cervantes. Yeah, his moves are trickier, and he has that lame-*** spin-on-my-sword-yarharhar move that I loathe, but in a contest of wits and power, Nightmare wins. He has the reach, a huge advantage of power, and can have good speed if you use him right. Also, Nightmare's stances are very important, because he has some VERY deadly change-ups if you do things right.

Eh, Taki is usually dead within ten seconds of a match starting with me. Most people I know can't play her well, and I find myself lacking sometimes unless I go through a few matches with her and get used to the moveset. I prefer sticking with characters I know.

My favorite character is Talim. I'm very skilled with her. I have been beaten few times when using her. I'm also pretty good with Ivy, Xiang hua, Maxi, and Mitsurugi. I have a little trouble with some of the characters with big wearpons like Astaroth and Nightmare. I can't fight very well with them for some reason. But other than that, I'm pretty decent with the other characters.

I have a friend who's a great Taki player. He uses that side-stepping roll that gets around Nightmare's deadly vertical attacks and comes around with a flurry of attacks. Granted, if one of Nightmare's attacks hit, Taki's done within a few seconds. It ends up being about 50-50 between me in my friend in that set-up.

I began playing as Cervantes after losing to a Cervantes player in tournaments two times in a row. I started getting really good with him, probably not as good as I am with Nightmare though. If "NM" starts using lots of long range attacks, you can just back up, go into preparation and press B and he'll basically turn into a fireball. If timed right, you could also use 4B+K and attack him while he's in mid swing. Slow characters like Nightmare have a lot of weaknesses to exploit, so you need to prepare for them. Using lots of fast attacks against a fast character usually doesn't work as well as waiting for a chance to use more powerful attacks.

As for sticking with character you know, I perfer to play as everyone, I have a few favorites that I play more than others, but I get bored easily. I have friends who play as Mitsurugi or Kilik every time, and sure, they're great with them. It gets to the point that I just use a character that exploits their weakness better.

Speaking of Kilik, a lot of people seem to like him here so I'll voice my opinion. I don't like Kilik because a quick character like Talim and dive in for an attack while Kilik is in mid-attack and kill him. Why? He has few quick, short-range attacks. He can't stop someone who's beating him down right on top of him.

Cervantes can be very dangerous, I'll agree with you there. I hate having to fight him during Weapon Master, because he usually has some super-deadly weapon, like the poison ones or the healing ones... Argh. But if I'm playing as Nightmare and I see a character back all the way up and do a stance change or charge up an attack, I'm gonna stop trying to hack them into itty-bitty pieces and get on the move.

And for that roll with Taki? Not always effective. When I play Nightmare I'm always on the move unless I'm in the crouched stance. In addition to that, a lot of his attacks cover his flank because of the way he swings his sword. I'm not saying he's invincible, but he's above-average in just about everything about him. Once you not only practice with him but also train yourself with him, you become very adapted to his speed and thus can counteract the faster characters.
