Jake of Bodom
As I Lay Dying's new album, Shadows Are Security, is quite a change in direction for the band. Almost immediately noticable is the almost complete lack of hardcore influences. They've moved on to nearly pure (melo) death metal. Not only that, but the inclusion of clean (singing) vocals is much more apparent on the new disc. What does everyone think? I LOVE THIS ******* DISC! This is AILD's best album yet (IMO). Amazing. I simply love it. The melodies are spot on, and the inclusion of singing is just icing on the cake for me. It's still heavy as hell when need be, but conveys melody a little better than on previous albums. It's great. 10/10. Everyone buy it now.
Kamuro
I liked "Frail Words Collapse" a lot and my expectations for this album were pretty high. Luckily they were met, just in a different way lol. As you said, it's a bit different then the previous albums and although I was a bit skeptical at first, I've learned to love the change they've made, however slight or blatant it may be from song to song. I think they've evolved a lot from their earlier works and this is just proof of how far they've come along since they started. As you said, the melodies are much more solid and they've learned to branch out from the original metal they've made since the band started. Kudos to them
Bullet Theory
Like Kamuro, "Frail Words Collapse" was one of my favorite albums so my expectations were set very high for this album. They were exceeded (pretty sure I spelled that wrong) tenfold. The introduction of the singing vocals was very welcome and went with the songs they were in very well. Also, they have a wider array of sound with the somewhat lighter material, while still holding true to the metal roots. My favorite song on the album, actually, is the lightest one: Repeating Yesterday.
Jake of Bodom
Yeah, my favorite songs were Confined and Darkest Nights, both of which kind of showcase the new style (more melo-death metal than hardcore, singing vocals on the chorus, etc), and I love it all! Kamuro
My favorite is "Confined" for simply the same reasons as you. This is a change I really enjoyed. A lot of people jumped on me for disliking the change in Slipknot, but they could really learn something from As I Lay Dying on how to do these things.
Jake of Bodom
I used to hate the way Slipknot had changed, but it's actually really grown on me lately. Vol. III is their most mature album by far, they just pulled it a little fast on the hardcore "maggots". I agree with you here for sure. AILD introduced their progression beautifully. It's just an amazing disc all around and I don't think I could get the damn thing out of my CD player if I tried.

Jake of Bodom
I can fully play (guitar) "Meaning in Tragedy", "Confined", "The Darkest Nights", and "Through Struggle" now, and it's a blast! I love the way they write their music, even if it is a little bit formulated at times.
Goodbye, Face
I just ordered the cd and downloaded a few songs for the four-day wait. They sound really great, but Confined and Illusions are the best of what I heard. I'm glad to hear that Shadows are Security stands up against Frail Words Collapse. Jake of Bodom
I've always considered As I Lay Dying to be more of a Death Metal band then a Hardcore band. All the "scene" kids at school friggin' crucified me for this: sadly, they pretty muched based their "hardcoreness" on the band member's style more than the music! And apparently, the inclusion of a couple breakdowns automatically makes them hardcore. No, wrong - Lamb of God and God Forbid both have breakdowns. They are NOT hardcore bands. Thus I was VERY pleased to hear the lead singer of AILD (cant remember his name) say that he considered their work to be mosly Death Metal! The words came from the band itself! HA! Kamuro
The band is mostly Death Metal. There are certain songs that unintentionally sound a bit on the hardcore side, but the band is definitely Death Metal. Songs like "Confined" give off a more hardcore feel, in my opinion. I love the song, it's just a bit different from the usual stuff, especially from "Frail Words Collapse." It's not bad to have a hardcore element to the music. Some of the best Death Metal out there is inspired and thought after other rock genres. Being able to combine two of the same is a talent, not a burden. And try not to double post Hells Angel. Different font doesn't mean it's ok lol.
Jake of Bodom
lol Ah, who cares, I don't mind the double post. But the moderaters will be all over your butt if you keep that up! Yeah, Elegy is pretty cool, but my favorite song on Frail Words Collapse is definately Collision. And Kamuro is, as usual, spot-on with his assesment. \m/
Goodbye, Face
Ok, I finally got the cd today. I listened to it twice, then went back through my favorites. I have a big problem with a cd where most of the tracks sound the same. I enjoy the tracks that are (very) different from the rest, such as The Darkest Nights and Confined, as well as the more brutal Illusions. The rest of the songs seem like one long song to me, but that happens a lot to me for some reason and people wonder what I'm talking about. I definitely love the cd, but Frail Words Collapse holds a bigger place in my heart. ^_^ I guess I just haven't given myself the time to pick out any more cool parts.
