Hurricane Season

Alright, techiqually, hurricane season started a month ago, but since I live near the Gulf Coast and my area just got pounded by Tropical Storm Cindy last night, I thought it would be aproapreate (sp?). Well, a record has already been broken by us having 4 named storms by this point in the year. I figured this can be a running thread about the hurricanes that come up this season.

As for what Cindy did to us here in New Orleans, there was some flooding, but mostly wind damage, a good chunck of the area, about 250,000 homes, are still without power, including mine (I'm at work, and the power's on there). Driving to work this morning, I saw downed tree limbs everywhere! And it's going to be quite a race to get everything picked up, since TS Dennis is lingering just outside the Gulf of Mexico.

Well, is there anyone who lives near the gulf coast or had/has to deal with Cindy/Dennis/etc. worried? Plus, anyone else who lives in a hurricane prone area, feel free to add your comments too.

Yeah. I live in Metairie, just off Severn, and we didn't get an insane amount of rain or anything, but we got enough. Wind was pretty bad, but it could have been worse. We did lose power a few times over the night and from four to about eight we had none as well, and that sucked because there wasn't any cloud cover and my house has crappy linings. Got up to around eighty-two and took until ten to get down to seventy again. Tch.

At least we didn't get hit as hard as Grand Isle. I mean, ****, shrimp boats just flying through the air and crashing into the bridge. Holy Hell.

And from the looks of it, as it stands now, Dennis might veer off to the eastern seaboard instead of diving down the middle of the Gulf, and, honestly, I hope it does. Ivan was a pain in the ***, and we didn't even get hit.

Hey, idea, maybe this might give Blanco the chance to get off her *** and prepare evacuation routes before we need them? Haha! *grumbles, muttering curses*

Alright, Dennis is almost a cat 5 now, getting worried now :animedepr GreatBird, I heard you guys got an unexpected pounding by Cindy, and I kinda know the feeling on the heading towards the storm; I'm supposed to go to Destin, FL in 2 weeks.

Well, I did get power back on at my house at about 3 in the morning Thursday.

Ok, I got to get back to work. :catgirl:

Dennis is supposed to run right past my city, and we'll probably get some bad weather as it goes.

It's SUPPOSED to pass us. I want my dad to put up the plywood over our windows, but he insists that there's no danger.

Just remember Charley.

My uncle was opening a hotel in Destin. First came the Destin shark attack, now comes Dennis the "menace." It's only supposed to be a category three when it hits, though, so there's a little little less to worry about.

I'm glad every time I've been to destin I've dodged hurricanes(around a dozen). I just miss Morgan's at Silver Sands Outlet. :animecry:

I'm really starting to pay attention to hurricanes, and definately will i the future. I'm going to North Carolina July 29 so hurricanes could pose some problems. One of my friends is moving to Cuba(Military), and her dad already lives there, so my eyes will be on the base.

Charley scared the heck out of me. It was the first time in my whole life that a hurricane was actually going to hit my city. That was when I was scared of cat. 2s, though. I probably wouldn't have minded it being a cat. 2 and hitting here now. Then it became cat. 3, and then cat. 4, and by then I was afraid I was gonna die.

They're going to retire the name Dennis, most definitely.

Well in in mobile alabama for the rest of the week and Dennis is hitting right now and its nowhere half as bad as Ivan was. I was down here when Ivan hit and It looked and sounded like a nueclear bomb was hitting my house. Every one though dennis would be Ivan but if you look at the satelite photos you can see that the mass of Ivan was much larger. Not that Dennis isnt bad but Ivan is a storm that comes around once every 25-30 yrs.

Actually a storm like Ivan will come around much more often than that, more like every five years. There is no stopping it. Now an amazing thing would be if this year they have four more hard-hitting hurricanes to one area. Hopefully they all attack the White House.

Ok, Katrina has cause the need to resurect this thread.

It seems now that Hurricane Katrina is making a beline for my precious home city, and I haven't even left it yet. I might be leaving sometime tonight or tomorrow morning if the current track stays as it is (a Cat. 4 making a direct hit on New Orleans). I just think those of you in my situation, who might be effected by this storm, let others OB members of our lack of on-line activity, especially with all that seems to be going on with the boards now.

Well, good luck to everyone in Katrina's path. Hopefully no one gets hurt. Frankly, I'd welcome any weather here; I don't care if it's a hurricane. It's so monotone here. In the summer it's hot and ******, with a bit of rain. In the winter it's nice a frozen with a good ol' blizzard now and again, but for the most part no interesting weather ever occures in Quebec. I would kill for the mega-blizzard that hit a few years back...
Are you seriously refering to the 1998 Ice Storm?

Not that one, that was annoying. I'm refering to the year (I don't remember which one but it was only a few ago) where we had 3 meters of snow piled up on our back deck. When it was -30 on average. THOSE are the days I'd kill for.
