I did away with best friends a long time ago. I don't see the point of it, and it can easily lead to hurt. But I can tell you about a good friend of mine:

My friend and I have a lot in common. We both like computers, anime, and video games to a certain extent. We have a lot of the same classes in school, and share generally lots of interests. Why is he a good friend of mine? hmm. Well, we both get along really well. He's trustworthy, and a lot like me. We can talk about almost anything and I know I don't have worry about gossip or something. I don't realy "look for new friends" like a job or something. If I meet someone, and we get along well, eventually we'll become friends I guess.

Anime characters? Wow, that's a tough one! It's hard to find an anime that develops a character enought o knwo if you'd want to be friends with them. I always thought it would be really interesting to be part of Ichigo (from Bleach)'s gang of friends. That's really all I can think of at the moment.
