Why gundam games suck.

Im a huge gundam fan and when I get a chance to play a game about them Im excited .But most are bad like Journey to Jaburo.They had a great concept (a great story mode that follows the series) but the controls sucked. The Zakus were more mobile than the gundams.And they base the games on series that dont deserve it.For Example, if they came out with a game based on Wing with the controls of Zone of Enders that would be great.
Last problem I hate the most is that they dont give each gundam detail. If the gundam has a special weapon let them use it the right way instead of making it look like the weapon and then letting it have the effects as the others.

I'd like to hear other peoples opinions on this.

Please tell me you've played other Gundam games, because Journey to Jaburo is the worst. I have Federation vs. Zeon, and its pretty good. The controls are SIMILAR to Zone of the Enders, and you can use pretty much every mobile suit available at the time. Not to mention it takes place in the one year war. And what do you mean series that don't deserve it?

So, your complaints are about the controls? I agree as well on particular games. I enjoyed Zone of the Enders the controls were definitely good for the basis of the attacks. I'm not a big fan of the Gundam series however, so it's impossible to be compelled to play with other flaws aside from the series itself.

As far as large mechwarrior type gundams, aside from Zone of the Enders, I like the Xenosaga idea. It's the stereotypical RP battling with the huge mechs we love to pilot. Theres plenty of attacks and combinations as well as a pretty good battle system. I think games based on gundams or similar to them try to hard to make a crazy indepth battle system, when a much simpler one would do better.

OMG is that all? XD
On the most part I agree with you, but for one game, One Year War, the controls were beautiful.

I played Federation vs Zeon like ThoraxtheImpaler, and although the controlers were OK, but they seemed lacking. When I picked up the controls for Kidou Senshi Gundam: Ichinen Sensou (Mobile Suit Gundam: One Year War), I was blown away. The only problem is that the game is still in Japanese so unless you've seen the Anime, you wont know what's going on.

The best part is you hardly use the regular (triangle, square, circle, X) buttons. This is possible because most of the gameplay is done through the Dual Shock controllers and the Shoulder buttons.

It was so natural, it felt like I was actually controlling the mobile suit! Plus the graphics were nuts.
Right Analog Stick: Camera
Left Analog Stick: Movement
L1 Button: Dash
L2 Button: Jump
R1 Button: Main Weapon (depending on equipment)
R2 Button: Melee Weapon
R3 Button: Vulcans/ Bob Missile (Guntank)
A Buttom: Secondary Weapon
X Button: Center Camera

Another cool thing is that you also play as other mobile suits and there are three sets of controls depending on the fighting style you're in.

Edit: Since this game is only out in Japanese, don't expect to find it at your local Best Buy, but it'll come out. ^^ So my point is not all Gundam games have sucky controls.

^^ also solved in One Year War. The graphics and detail are amazing. Usually between stages in games I'm mashing the "START" button to get past the "mission explanation" screens, but EVERYTHING in One Year War is soooo beautiful. ;_;

Soooo beautiful.... ;_;

I share your opinion, Gundampali23.

The Gundam games I've played were bad, and when I played ZOE, I wondered "Why can't they make a Gundam game like this?"

I rented Journey to Jaburo and thought that it was a little less than okay, especially after playing through Armored Core 2. It wasn't really the controls, but it was just really slow, slower than you'd expect giant mechs to move.

I later bought Zeonic Front, played it for a few hours and traded it in at EB. This game controlled horribly. It was slow and the controls didn't make sense at all.

I later borrowed the next one that came out from a friend, I don't remember what it's called, it was similar than Journey to Jaburo... That's pretty much it. I wasn't given enough time to beat it, but I didn't really like it anyways.

Gundam games I do like are the Gundam Battle Assault games. They're 2-D fighting games. They may have pixelated graphics, and they may be slower than SF or KoF fighters, but once you get used to the (lack of) speed, they're good games.

I love gundam so much that I did play the other games but, they weren't good .I mean look at the series its one of the best, so shouldn't the games be the best. and what I meant by deserve it is that the stayed on the Universal Era too long.
Its time they got a game on a different Era. In september they are coming out with Gundam Seed: The Never Ending Tomorrow thats what I mean by deserve it. Seed was a great series and if they make the game right it will be a great game too.

I'm a big fan of Gundam, and all mecha in paticular (Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, Voltron, Robotech, etc.) but not many games based on anime are that good. The only decent Gundam games I played was "Federation Vs. Zeon", and "Zeta Gundam". I remember when the PS1 "Battle Assult" games came out. Very dissipointing. A freind of mine only played them both because she could play as Hero Yui, and her freind could play as Duo.

Good anime games are hard to make, because there is so much to live up to. It has to look like it, sound like it, feel like it as well. But that's easier said than done in most cases. But I hope that Gundam games in the future will be more fun to play. Oh, is "The One Year War 0079" coming to the US?
