Rant/Spam Boards

Well lets face it we all have stress. So why not have a nice board where we can rant spam and flame all we want. Tell me what you think.

[font=Verdana][color=blue]A board that invites people to spam would not be good for this forum. It would subtract from the standards that people have come to expect from it. Also, in time, some members may start to think that spamming is now generally allowed and we would end up getting a lot of pointless responses to posts outside that board. It'd kill off the quality that we've all been working so hard to maintain. People will become mindless idiots and that spam might follow over to the rest of the forums. Besides, spamming and flaming won't make you feel better. Heck, it tends to make situations worse, especially if you flame or spam about someone else on the boards. They will then flame back and it'll start a flame war.

Why start a bad thing when we've got it good?

Short answer: You're going to be told that you're perfectly welcome to do these things--just on one of countless other message boards on the interweb that feature that variety of "letting loose."

Why would people need to relieve tension by posting idiotic messages though? I can think of dozens of better ways. Do something constructive; build a model airplane.

I have to agree with Gavin and Petie, if we did introduce a forum specifically for spamming then the quality on the rest of the boards would suffer as a whole. It would only be a matter of time before that spam would start to seep out of the designated forum and into others, because he if we have one part of the forum dedicated to it then why should be just open the flood gates and let everyone flame and spam when they're feeling a bit miffed.

Another problem with that is that people might just start making ridiculously small threads and replies in that forum just to build up their post count, since the abolition of the other user titles it's not so much of a goal but would still be a problem with some people given the opportunity. Long story short, if people feel like ranting and spamming, use MyO, it's your own little section of TheOtaku and Otakubaords where you can swear your head off or spam without feeling guilty over it. There's no need to have the same over on OB.[/SIZE]

This idea pops up so often that I think there should be a sticky here about it. It's driving me insane. Why would spamming or flaming provide somebody with a 'much needed release'? As Charles said, get a hobby, do something else. Whatever. Anybody who truly feels better after spamming or flaming is not somebody we need at this board. It doesn't take all that long to build up good typing habits and decent post quality when everybody else is doing the same, all of the time. I don't believe post counts are an issue. If they had a Spam forum they could just stop posts in there counting towards the total, as they did in the My Picture forum. But, I still don't support the idea of a spam forum.[/size]
