DeadSeraphim
Hmm. Let's see if I can do this thread without closing the window moments before posting again. Anyway, yes, this thread is about Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, a primarily Australian alternative band headed by, you guessed it, Nick Cave. They're categorised by dark lyrics and haunting music, and are a favourite of people who subscribe to the Gothic stereotype. That said they aren't really 'trapped' in that kind of music, but when your breakout album was a concept album about murder and death, well...lol What I love most about the band has to be Cave's voice, which is really deep and brooding (and great for ballads). It's the perfect voice to handle the often-times extremely dark lyrics that the band is categorised for, but it's also great for love ballads like 'The Ship Song'. The backing music is similarly versatile, being able to handle a great many styles. I own, at the moment, Murder Ballads, but I'm hoping to go out and find Nocturama sometime soon. So umm.. yeah. Anyone else heard of this fantastic band?
Semjaza
You and I have talked about him and his group in the past. Really, they're phenominal and criminally underrated. He's put out so many great to perfect albums in his career that you think he'd have more love than he does. I have over a dozen of his albums at this point, so they're not worth listing. I don't know that I have an absolute favorite.
Gen. Andronicus
I just recently made the purchase of their B-sides and Rarities collection. It is very good. But hey, I pretty much think it's worth spending $23 on it just for the acoustic version of The Mercy Seat. I'm not saying the original was bad, it just overstays it's welcome, and Cave's voice isn't recorded to it's best. This version however fixes those problems. As for Nocturama, not bad, but I would suggest Tender Prey, No More Shall We Part, or even their newest, The Abbatoir(sp?) Blues/Lyre of Orpheus. Also, in the movie Shrek 2 one of Cave's songs is played through the guise of captain hook. So in essence Nick Cave played the voice of Captain Hook. Just a little music trivia tid-bit for you. DeadSeraphim
It's sad this is the turnout this thread got... heh. Proof that the band is under-rated to the extreme, perhaps? I'm yet to pick up Nocturama but I get paid soon (love saying that, ha) so I'll pick it up post-haste, as well as a few other albums. Pretty much all I've heard off it so far is Bring It On, but I've not heard much bad stuff about it, so I'm going to risk a purchase. lol So umm... yeah. Rock on? :p
