MirielleChan
Ever read any? I've recently read "Last Hope", not realizing it was made by Americans when I first got it. The art is pretty good, and the story-line's ok. What do you think of American manga that you've read? And if you haven't read any, what do you think about Americans making manga? kagomefruitcup
Actually americanized anime is kind of stupid  (but it's okay)Only Cuz american artistes try too hard into makin it look more anime, :animeswea But on the plus side some american anime shows are pretty cool (like teen titans and Totally Spies LOL). You hav a good point though. :animesmil
Kei
The thread is about Americans making comics that have been heavily influced by Japanese culture, not cartoons. Truth be told, I'm sort of 50-50 on the issue. While I enjoy it when it takes on a parodic form (take Atomic King Daidogan, for example,) it may go to show that people are moving on to recycle more ideas. Sure, there are those that are originals (and I'm really happy to see them come out) and I know that everyone who does create "Amerimanga" (myself included) try really hard at what they do, we're really just doing what we did to all of our comicbook superheores and ideas; putting the same plots and characters in new packaging. Don't get me wrong, it's entertaining, but I still can't help but think about it in that aspect a little, you know?
kitsunekami
ya know, i don't think what i do is amercian manga since, even though it's "made in america", it's not really "amercanized". i heard that they are doing some manga after the harvy boys and nancy drew or whatever. yeah...godd, that is sad. i've also seen some amercanized fanart(that'd be hellsing, that's pretty much all i look at, and all i really care about) of seras victoria. i thought it was sick to look at. i thought it was hidious. I HATED IT! aka i really dun like this. anything under this is digusting and poorly made. at least all i have seen.
shakon
I personally think that if it looks like Japanese comic, and reads like one, it should be considered manga. Like, there is quite a bit of people in North America who have manga published. Some are considered manga, but really don't look all that Japanese. Some of it, you can't really tell... Where it's produced, shouldn't matter... The style and quality, amoung other things on the list, is what makes the manga... As for "Americanime" like Teen Titans and Totally Spies..... I'm not big on it... In fact, I think it's wierd... I do not think that should be considered anime, as it's not, at the moment... thank goodness... Dagger
I have no problems with MIC (manga-influenced/inspired comics) as long as they aren't actually called manga. Since it's impossible to create a solid visual definition (at least not one that encompasses everything from Doraemon to Sailor Moon to Blame while excluding The Boondocks), nationality is really all we have to go by. What people don't understand is that not being labelled as manga doesn't make MIC inherently less worthy than manga; unfortunately, though, a lot of people seem to have some kind of weird inferiority complex about their work being called comics. Just as is the case with any other form of entertainment, most manga is terrible. Fortunately the sheer volume of it ensures that there are at least one or two titles that will appeal to you, regardless of your tastes. The same cannot be said of MIC, since right now it's a fairly amorphous categorization and there just aren't too many of them out there. ~Dagger~
Omnigear Fenrir
Not to be a smart aleck, but the term "American Manga" makes no sense. "Manga" is just the Japanese word for, literally, "comics", so it's sort of redundantly saying "American Comics". I'm with Dagger, I don't mind "manga-influenced" comics, I just don't like blatantly American-made material being called "manga"; after all, I don't remember hearing the Japanese collectively referring to American comics in very poorly pronounced fashion as "com-ics-oh". :animeangr But anyway, I kinda like Megatokyo and that's about all I can think of pertaining to "manga-influenced American comics". I haven't been exposed to as much of it, I guess...
