Doukeshi
I know this has been done before and think that it would be a great idea to do it again. Seeing as the events forum seems to have dried up over the months I think that this would be an excellent way to get Obers actively involved again. Like before it would be a writing competition based on prose poetry and the like, whoever organises it can think of events. Competitors would be eliminated from each round, voted for by the OBers themselves until there is just one left. They would then be crowned OB Idol, huzzah. What do you think?
Sara
While it's possible that this may return in the future, the next big event is already in place in the Community Events forum. Go check it out. :)
Kamuro
I wouldn't mind the idea actually. There is already an event in place but who says it has to be an event? I know that was doukeshi's intent but if you really wanted to start a writing "tournament" you could simply do it at Anthology. Just as graphic battles have been held at the Art forum, people take things into their own hands and begin the compeition themselves. It doesn't have to be an event to be a good idea lol.
Zidargh
Personally, I feel these events cause more hassle than they're actually worth. Admittedly, I used to be all for them. For example; I have the bloody award in my custom title after about 2 years. ... Heh... yeah. But these events tend to be incredibly biased to that of an existing staff member, friend or someone who just everyone else voted for and you didn't know what to do. There are too many sections on this continuously growing community that alot of people are clueless to who frequents what part of the forum which places this false facade upon the entire event. I also don't like it when I lose.
Doukeshi
Whoops, I have now seen the Event currently on show and have joined, silly unobservant me. As for doing this sort of thing in the Anthology, it just doesn't have the same sort of involvement as it would if it were an Event.
Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. I don't actually recall the last OB Idol contest, I know it was back years ago at this stage, back when I didn't stir out of the Arena for love nor money. I wouldn't mind taking a crack at OB Idol, so long as someone explains it to me anyway, though Shy's new Legionnaires Event is definitely something I'm going to try and be a part of. In terms of Events I'd suggest waiting until one is over and done with before beginning another. Zidargh has a point though when he says nominations are often slightly biased, as we used to see in the "[Insert Title] of the Year" Events.
Doukeshi
Of course voting will be biased, most voting is. All I hope for is that not all of the voting will be biased and that most of it will be based on actual talent. Of course I mean to wait for the current event (which looks really rather good btw) to finish. It's just something to think about. P.S Gavin, whenever you say 'interesting, most interesting' in front of your post it makes me want to hurt you.

Lady Asphyxia
You know, because of Otaku Idol, I never actually became a member? I went straight from Junior Member to The Otaku Idol to Moderator. But, yeah. While it was fun, the participation level wasn't very high -- people had time commitments and things like that. I think the new event will be better because anyone can participate, pretty much. ^_^

Yeah, I hate to jump the bandwagon, but it's quoted for truth. :p Anyway, I think that bringing back the OB Idol sounds like a good idea. I'm pretty sure the community is a bit more... hm... informed (mature?) than to vote based solely upon popularity. I remember reading it in the archives when I was extremely bored, and it sounds like fun. As for the Official Graphics Tournament going on, go join it! It really should be considered a community event, and it should be just as much fun as the Legionnaires.
