I really loved Hawthorne Heights when they first came out, or at least became popular. I believe I first heard of the name from a friend, then I heard them in a sampler from a magazine called American Music Press (AMP). I later saw the video on MTV, which was cool the first time, but as I got bored of the cd, I got sick of the band. I really can't stand too much of their music aside from a few select songs such as "Life on Standby" and "The Transition."

I stopped liking them because I relized just how uninspired their lyrics were. You could have never heard one of their songs before, but know what the last word of a given line is be hearing the rest of it. I found it really dissapointing after a while, as it stands now, I haven't listened to the cd in about half a year, unless they happen to pick up after Hand to Hand on my playlist.

Sorry guys, Hawthorne Heights is ok, but there's better bands out there.

Hawthorn Heights... Isn't that the name of a map in Rollar Coaster Tycoon?

Seriously, I have no idea who this band is. I don't pay attention to these flash-in-the-pan bands that come around now-a-days. I have too long an attention span.

I like them but then again I like two of their songs so really that doesn't count for much. I like Niki FM and Screenwriting An Apology, I'm not sure why I just do heh. I enjoy those songs and sometimes Blue Burns Orange but I dunno, I don't think I'd but their cd.

They aren't bad but at the same time, nothing really special to me.

I'll attempt to help you XD

My punk friends are more obsessed over this band than anyone else. In fact, I hear about them quite a bit, they have the clothing, the CDs constantly play around them... I fear I know their music just from being in my friends' presence. But I don't mind. They have some good songs. I don't feel I like them that much, but there are various songs that go along the lines of rock to me, which I love. But that's just me. I get yelled at by fans when I say I hear a hint of rock in them.

Oh dear lord. Just when I thought humanity couldn't reach a lower depth, I stumble across this thread.

Hawthorne Heights. I hadn't known which band it was until someone mentioned that unholy butchering of sound waves you poor misdirected fools seem to think is a song, "Ohio is for Lovers".

GOOD LORD, PEOPLE. Have you no self-respect? Can you not see that they aren't making this "music" out of any sense of artistry? They are doing this crap to be the Next Big Thing, to become temporarily Bigger Than Jesus, but, most of all, they are doing this to STEAL YOUR MONEY. As soon as I heard the words, "So cut my wrists and black my eyes," I KNEW they weren't in it for the music's sake.

Hawthorne Heights is none of the above. The item on that list that they're closest to is punk, because they're Pop-Punk.

No offense to you personally, Mugen, but NEVER EVER smudge the good name of Metal again by comparing it with this FILTH. If you want metal, if you want good music, go listen to Children of Bodom or Stratovarius or Dark Tranquility or Opeth. Just don't listen to this crap.

OtakaMoon, you do realize you've posted in this thread four times saying little more than "OMG HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS ROX MY SOX!1111," even when you've only heard one of their songs; right? I suggest you buy their cd and give the whole thing a listen, and then tell us what you really think. Only listening to one song is simply not enough to judge any band, no matter how many times you tell people it's "frecken sweet," no one's going to care about your opinion, since you have next to nothing to base it off of. :)

OK mister know it all ... It is made from art...Music is an art, plus they aren't trying to make it bigger than jesus! They got found out about from a dude who passed through Ohio, liked them and they sent a tape to him. If you havn't noticed, Ohio is for lovers is a love song and the phrase cut my wrists and black my eyes means I can't believe! Do your research dummy. I know more about metal than you any way. I play drums, guitar and bass. Ohio is for lovers isn't there only song anyways. (They're way better than Suicide mesaiah and black label societie's worse songs ever club.)The metal you guys listen to is retarded any way. Listen to something good and real. Not fake. Real. Slipknot. Atreyu. Anything.
I know more about metal than you any way. I play drums, guitar and bass.[/B']
Mugen, and I mean this in the least bastardly way that I can, but what the hell are you talking about? Just because you can "play the drums, guitar and bass" does not make any drastically effective demonstration of your musical knowledge! As a matter of fact, I refer to another part of your article to demonstrate.
The metal you guys listen to is retarded any way. Listen to something good and real. Not fake. Real. Slipknot. Atreyu. Anything.
Now, correct me if I am mistaken, but Rhym, the person you have unjustly accused of listening to
retarded
metal, used the bands Dark Tranquility, Children of Bodom, Stratovarius, and Opeth. You used the bands Atreyu and Slipknot.

Let's make something clear, shall we?

What you refer to as
retarded
, is actually the true, honest-to-lucifer, modern vein of Heavy Metal. Bands such as Slipknot are the bastard children of said music.

"Why?" you may ask yourself, but this is the underlying reason.

Slipknot is Nu-Metal (pardon the omission of the umlaut). They are what has often been described as a "cheap immitation" and a "haphazard attempt" at making Metal. As a fan of Slipknot, myself, I can say that there are RESEMBLANCES between bands like Slipknot and true Metal music, but nothing to justify labelling other Metal bands as
retarded
, and Slipknot AS metal.

Atreyu? Well, actually I just heard some of their songs today, and they are a decent metal band. I use the word DECENT. Bands like Children of Bodom have talent that the members of Slipknot and Atreyu can only admire. Guitarists like Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom), Adam Jones (Tool), Mark Morton (Lamb of God), Jesper Stromblad (In Flames), Phil Sgrosso (As I Lay Dying), and many others, have attained a level of musical creativity and ingenuity that your little Pop-Punk bands can ony try to top with catchy phrases and poppy little "melodies".

Your argument against true metal bands is a disturbing, and suprisingly indicative one. You see, what you described as metal, "Having that metal goth voice in it" is a preposterous statement that can only be made by the musically undersuppled. Aside from that, being a Goth and being a Metalhead are often very separate things. A goth may like completely different music besides metal, usually goth rock, which, by the way, most times is SUNG and not growled.

In short, your fallacy is no small thing. It is a highly alarming offence to me and to all those who truly stand by the banner of metal.

I leave you with a quote from Manowar, the loudest metal band in history:

"The gods made heavy metal and they saw that is was good
They said to play it louder than Hell
We promised that we would
When losers say it's over with you know that it's a lie
The gods made heavy metal and it's never gonna die

We are the true believers
It's our turn to show the world
In the fire of heavy metal we were burned
It's more than our religion it's the only way to live
But the enemies of metal we can't forgive

Cause we believe in the power and the might
And the gods who made metal are with us tonight"

Adieu,

-OM

I came here to talk about Hawthorne Heights, and I will actually get to them in a minute, but I just read some of the most heinous blasphemy I've ever seen on this site. I've gotta follow through.

ShonenSamuraiMugen, you probably wouldn't know a Metal song if marched right up to you and bit you in the face.

Rhym listed a handfull of absolutely pristine metal acts (Stratovarious, Dark Tranquillity, Opeth, and Children of Bodom). This is high-rate, serious music done by true artists - then you turn around and say that it's "retarded" (quite the adjective... I can see why you'd make a comment like the one you did), and call hacks like Slipknot and Atreyu "real metal"? Okay, let's get this straight - Slipknot and Atreyu are REAL metal, wheras Opeth and Children of Bodom aren't?

...

What the hell are you talking about? I thought you said you knew a whole lot about Metal because you play bass, guitar, and drums! You've demonstrated that you know nothing of the sort. People like you give Metal a bad name. I don't want to get in yet another flame war, so I'll be P.M.ing you about this instead.

JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW - HE'S WRONG. ATREYU AND SLIPKNOT AREN'T "REAL" METAL BANDS. Please don't confuse that stuff with Metal. Those bands may be just fine, but they aren't what metalheads are so passionate about.

Anyway, on to Hawthorne Heights. Albeit the fact that they're an Emo band (or something close to it), and the fact that I hate their whiny lyrics, I must say that they could be a lot worse. I'd say they're one of the best really crappy bands I've heard in a while.

First off, there's more to them than that truly crapadellic Ohio Is For Lovers song. They have better. There are some points on their album that the riffing actually gets inspired a bit. That's right - there's some harmonies in there! Apparently, the guitarists are HUGE Iron Maiden fan, and even though they aren't playing that kind of (good [IMO]) music, they pull it out every now and then as far as influence. So there are moments that resemble cool stuff, but it's still overall poppy crap.

Oh, and 0ber0n, nice touch with the Manowar quote! LONG LIVE MANOWAR! LONG LIVE TRUE METAL! \m/ (>.<) \m/
