I don't know how to say this...

I hope this makes sense. I posted a new thread today in Anime Lounge: Gundam Seed Destiny. I said at the bottom that if there was another like it move it but I couldn't find one. When i did the search I didn't say Poll: Gundam Seed I just typed in Gundam Seed, of course. I got nothing, so I guessed there wasn't anything on the subject (that struck me as odd, but I didn't think anything of it). The Thread (as I thought it would) got moved by someone on the staff. It was moved to the thread Poll: Gundam Seed. Maybe I'm the only one like this but when I see a poll with over 60+ replies I don't really care to look at it. My point is (yes I have a point) can't it be moved to a plain old Gundam Seed thread that doesn't say Poll in front of it.

I'm sure this has happened before, so why does it get moved to Something that says 'Poll' when what I'm writing about doesn't have anything to do with the poll subject (which was, Gundam Seed getting worse?)

I understand your confusion and frustration here.

When threads say "Poll" in front of them, that doesn't mean that the entire thread is devoted to the poll. Especially in the cases of merged threads, the poll often has nothing to do with the eventual topic of discussion. ("Poll" is automatically added to the subject line when there is a poll attached. Actually "Poll" isn't part of the thread title, but something that comes before it. Rather like "Sticky" or "Moved.")

The system in the Anime Lounge is to have one main thread per anime, so that all discussion pertaining to that anime can be found in a single thread. If you have something about Gundam that you want to post, you can post it in the midst of whatever current Gundam conversation is going on. It takes some getting used to.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Also, are spin-offs such as Gundam Seed Destiny still posted under the original Gundam Seed thread?
This kind of depends. I figure that since SEED Destiny is essentially a continuation and prominently features many characters from the first series, we might as well stick them together.

In some instances, shows and related movies/OVAs are also lumped together (like Evangelion and End of Evangelion, or R.O.D and R.O.D the TV, or X TV and X: The Movie). In other cases (like Revolutionary Girl Utena and Revolutionary Girl Utena: Adolescence Apocalypse), they're kept separate.

I don't really stick to a specific set of criteria when judging this sort of thing, since it isn't an issue that pops up too frequently. Obviously the more different from each other the two works are, the more likely it is that they will be kept in separate threads. Usually there's no reason to create a new topic for a direct sequel. Spin-offs and AUs and side stories offer a little more wiggle room. You can use your discretion; if a mod merges your thread and you strongly disagree with the decision, you can always PM him/her to say why it might be better to leave it as two topics.

Yeah, I made a thread that asked if anyone was sad to see Paranoia Agent with only one more episode to go before it's over. I also made one asking who would win if Jin and Mugen started fighting. I never got any replies, because nobody ever looked in the old ones they ended up in. I didn't know what had happened.

That's true but if the staff let every new thread go then it would be a madhouse like some forums I've been in. I do agree with you though, I don't tend to look at a thread if it already has 100+ replies. Maybe there should be something set up that if the original thread is inactive for so long it's closed and the next new one to spring up is where all the following threads of that subject are directed to.

Like I said, it takes some getting used to. Newer members, especially, tend not to bother looking at long threads. However, you don't need to read through the entire thing, lol. When you get into it, you just automatically check the last page of the threads you're interested in.

OB was originally set up with seperate forums (and as many threads as you'd like) for several different anime, but as more and more anime became popular, it just wasn't a feasible option. (Can you imagine having as many forums as theOtaku has hubs? No, thanks!) So the current one-thread-per-show system was set up some time ago. It works fairly well, I think.

I've done that before. It ended up with people complaining saying what I've said was already stated. I wouldn't go through 40 pages just to see If someone said something similar, that's why I tend to stray away from threads with many replies.

40 pages? I don't think I've seen many threads with 40 pages, even in the AL.

...and as I typed that, I realised why. I have my viewing set to something like "50 posts per page." It actually makers things very pleasant in my opinion, since I spend that much less time waiting for things to load. (It also makes long threads much less intimidating.)

Anyway, I'm sorry you've had a bad experience with that. Hopefully it doesn't put you off OB too much.
