What ever happened to the chat we had a few years back?

It isn't, and I don't believe it's slated to return. If you'd like to chat with Otaku members, I believe your best bet is to find approach them individually on AIM. Alternately, you could create a theOtaku Chat chatroom on AIM. With some work and dedication, it's possible that you could get many people to use such a room.

This forum is for specifically anime-related things (individual series and cross-series threads). This thread belongs in the Suggestions forum. I'm moving it there now.

Actually, that doesn't sound so bad. *shrugs* It reminds me a lot of "tehsillycircus" which was a whole hell of a lot of fun - got me undepressed about things for a while. *grins*

So yeah, if we got a perpetual AIM chat or whatever, that would be cool. =)
Excellent. I'll make a thread dedicted to people who would like to start a chat room on this website. :excited:
Nooooooo. That's not what I meant.

On AIM, you can make a chatroom and give it a name. For example, you could name the room "Otaku Chat." Anyone who types in the room name "Otaku Chat" can join that chatroom--your chatroom.

If you want people to be aware of it, I suggest putting it in your signature. Something like "Want to talk? Visit the chatroom Otaku Chat on AIM." Ask other people to put the notice in their signatures as well.

Roxie is referring to something that happened a year or two ago that was very similar in nature. There was a chatroom called "tehsillycircus," and many people from myOtaku and OtakuBoards participated at one time or another. I don't have the records (although I'm sure SOMEBODY does, but it lasted for days, if not weeks.

So if you give a chatroom a unique name, and make people aware of it, chances are that people will participate.

For the record, Teh Silly Circus lasted from the 22nd to the 31st of January, 2004. If anyone really wants to read it, I have a near-complete log on OtakuFiles.

As for starting up a regular AIM chat room, I've actually thought about starting another Teh Silly Circus and seeing if I could get it to rival the first. Might not be such a bad idea.

There are other instant messenger clients out there that you can use to connect to AIM besides AOL's, though. Personally, I use Trillian, which I find to be a lot nicer. Do a search and you should be able to find others without much trouble.

Des!! You have almost all the files? SQUEEEEEEEEE!!! ^_________^ *bounces up and down and all around* When I had AOL as my ISP, browser, and AIM, it would never let me see a complete chat, so I missed lots of pieces. I have a couple expecially good ones floating around (as well as that rediculous banner), but I didn't have the complete chat. I love you. *goes to look at Des' copy.*

There isn't a way, I don't think, to keep the chat running forever, without one person being in it all the time - so if you decide to start it, it may die if no one's in it (that would be the fate of "tehsillycircus," actually... *glares long and hard at SOMEONE* ... but no matter. *shrugs and sighs* )

Whoever wants to go to the room simply has to enter the title, and they'll be in the room. Whether you consider it the "same" room or not doesn't really matter--it's an AIM room with the name "Otaku Chat" or "tehsillycircus."

It's really just a matter of getting enough people interested so that if someone goes to the room, odds would be good that someone would be there to talk to. Otherwise, there's no point of it, and you might as well just use instant messaging.
