Semjaza
For those that cannot see the trailer... this is what it shows:
The meteor crashes into their planet and the screen fades out. The words "two years later" appear on the screen. Cloud is racing down some sort of highway on his motorcycle. You see Sephiroth in the distance who casts a spell directed at Cloud. He flies off the bike, which then crashes and explodes. Sephiroth and Cloud do battle... and then it shifts to scenes of Cloud alone at a beach and a Church. It also shows Sephiroth meeting with some older person in a wheelchair, as well as the famous scene of him walking through the burning town.
It specifically says "This is not for playing" at the start of the trailer. It also says coming Summer 2004. Here are some screengrabs I took myself from the trailer for those who cannot get it (they're not in the order they appear in the trailer, sorry). They don't show much new over the other stuff, so I doubt anything is spoiled by them. EDIT - Removed my images because there are better ones now. Scroll down.... Semjaza
It's Sephiroth. It's made rather obvious later on in the trailer when he touches the person in the wheelchair and has a flashback to Nibelheim. Same as in the other photos as well.

Maybe he's just one of those Sephiroth clones, or something. Or maybe it is him, who knows?:D Hmm, I wonder who the person in the wheelchair is. Hojo, Jenova, Tifa, a walrus with a tophat? I guess we'll have to see.

Sandy
My theory is that Cloud is fighting Sephiroth's apprentice or something, and the guy in white robes is what is left of Sephiroth. After such an ***-whupping he got at the end of the game you can't really expect him returning young and strong out of nowhere, can you? But I sincerely hope the DVD will come in sale also in western countries (as that has not been confirmed yet).
Dagger
Well..... Sephiroth does seem fairly young and strong in the pictures, doesn't he? The only official image I've seen (besides those released in the magazines) shows Cloud on one side, and a pretty healthy-looking Sephiroth on the other, with the "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" logo between them. It had better be released in America and other western countries.... I'm sure there would be decent demand. ~Dagger~
craig8429
I'm currently believing that it's seph but it's a clone. I mean remember when we seen hojo last? we hadn't seen much of him in the game so he could have easily made another clone of seph. Maybe their is even two? maybe one is younger and one is the original clone.....
Dagger
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that you
kill Hojo
during the game. Anyway, it's not like the original Sephiroth would have aged very much over two years.... if he had somehow survived, there would be little reason for him to look any different. Remember, if two years passed, Cloud would only be 23. ~Dagger~

WW2
Whoa this movie just keeps looking better and better. I really like how they recreated the church, with the flower garden. The shots of Cloud and the Sephiroth look alike, fighting in the ruins of old Midgar, are awsome. Oh, in the shot of Cloud at the beach, you can see the destroyed Junon canon in the mist. Gah! Must learn more! :wow:
Mitch
I still haven't posted in this thread because I just don't know what to say. Do you know how much Final Fantasy Seven is to live up to? It's...too much for me to even put my finger on. This game just is one of my favorite games of all time...and almost my favorite Final Fantasy (my favorite is FF 3 (american)). This is so much to live up to...you know. And I have extreme extreme extreme doubts. Very high doubts. Very many doubts. Plus you have to look at the long-term effects of this stuff Square is now pulling. It just doesn't feel like Final Fantasy to me anymore...it's like they're getting so run-down and out of ideas they are finally doing what they never did--making sequels to these amazing games. And starting off with FF X-2 was fine in my opinion...X as a game and all was decent...but I didn't love it so much that I wouldn't hate to see it disgraced. But FF 7? I never ever ever ever thought I'd hear Square touching its hands on this. This, this game is a masterpiece in ever facet. The characters...the magic system...the way the graphics look on FF 7 to this very day I still love...the settings...the story...I loved everything about 7. It's just so great. It is sooooooooo much to live up to. I can't even comprehend how much it is to live up to. And I doubt Square is going to make anything worthy of a sequel. This game was magic. And magic doesn't happen often. If I had a choice...I'd rather there not be a sequel. And if there had to be a sequel...I want a game. Not a movie. Movies are good...but from what I've seen...I am going to come into this thing totally comparing it to FF 7 the game...and it's going to fail in my expectations. I know it will. It just has to, you know. 7 is just like that to me personally. Sephiroth died at the end of 7. I'm going to love seeing how this is pieced together by Square. Yes, Sephiroth is awesome. Yes, he was one of the best characters in the game But no, I don't want him in the movie just because he's so cool. I want an actual sequel to FF 7...which I doubt I shall have. I would so much rather have this be a game. So much rather. So very much rather. I would like it to be a game...a game that has the same look and feel as 7. The same outdated, beautiful graphics, the same outdated, beautiful FMVs. The same game...only a sequel and more of the epic story I feel 7 deserves. But not a movie. Yes...this is somewhat like a wet dream. But I am not going to say right off that I'm going to love it right off for what it will be. I am dead serious about FF 7 as a masterpiece...and I doubt that Square can deliver what 7 had. But we'll see. Indeed we will.
Dagger
Squaresoft certainly does have a LOT to live up to. But frankly, I'd rather have a movie than nothing at all. I think they're aware of how difficult it will be to continue the story of FF7, and I'm sure they'll try as hard as they can to make the final product worthy of its venerable predecessor. ^__^ ~Dagger~
Xai
Am I the only person who thinks the new Seph is ugly? >_< Holy crap. He looked okay in that first magazine advertisement thing since you didn't see him up close, but in the newer images...ick. Cloud looks okay though. I hope they don't mess up the other characters.
Dagger
I actually think that Seph looks better than Cloud... at least in the trailer. Seph looks all nice and evil, albeit slightly more feminine than before. I like the way they changed his hair--it's more realistic, but still has the same basic style. Cloud's crazy spikes don't work as well, in my opinion. *shrugs* It's really a matter of personal taste. Even if you don't find the new Sephiroth attractive, he definitely has that lovely malicious aura, ne? ~Dagger~
Sephiroth
I highly doubt that the guy who Cloud is fighting is Sephiroth, for one he's too short, Sephiroth was taller than that, most likely the guy in the wheelchair is Sephiroth, but hey what do I know, right? When this was announced as a movie, everyone whined and complained. I do agree that a game would be preferable (I'd certainly love a new FFVII game, as I'm a big fan). But so many people automatically discount this just because of the format. And that annoys me. God forbid Square Enix try to do something different with the franchise. The fact that they are even doing anything with FFVII is a good thing. I say that we be pleased about what we are getting and try not to shoot down the effort so quickly. I know that you are not closing the door on it as such...but you're already forming a viewpoint. A few shots on a trailer won't give you any kind of realistic view. I mean, I'm sure you'll give it a chance when it's out...but I guess I'm addressing a bigger concern. Besides, with FFVII, my feeling (as a big fan of it) was that the gameplay wasn't what made it good, as such. The story/characters/settings were the primary driving force for me. I mean, there were plenty of fun gameplay moments (particularly boss battles), but still...I have to be realistic about what I really enjoyed about the game. I guess that this really just reflects a general issue with me. It's the same as when people immediately started to "hate" a real-life Neon Genesis Evangelion movie. We know that some of the original creators are involved...it's not like some guy is just making it on his own without any knowledge of the series, you know? I'm not saying that any of this stuff will be great or anything. I can see why people will discount this movie. But I refuse to put myself in that situation -- I'll wait and judge it when I see it.
ZeroBlade
My two cents is that Square knows this game kicked ***. (Hey just look at the sales numbers.) I doubt they will screw this up. After watching the trailer, I was even more impressed with the way it looks. As for story, here's what I think... Something must have happened to Cloud that would cause him to chase the unknown guy into the Midgar ruins. My guess is that this new guy is Septhy's son or offspring of some sort. As for connections to other characters, Aeris seems to have a direct link to this new story since you see Cloud walking through the church she used to plant flowers in. Very intriguing indeed. I want to see what happens next but god knows how long it'll take for a translation or a fansub group to release this. Lucky for me, I have my FFXI to hold me down until then. ^^

I'm amazed that they're following up on FFVII at all.... though perhaps I might have preferred a game, I'll take what I can get, thank you very much. Who's to say a movie won't be just as enjoyable? Besides, rumors indicate (though we know how reliable those are) that it won't be strictly a movie.... something more like an "interactive DVD." Whatever the hell that means... Anyway, for the moment, I'd rather be optimistic about this. I think it's pretty courageous of them to make a sequel, especially considering the possibility that everyone will hate it. I'm sure they'll put a lot of time, money, and creative effort into making it as good as possible. ~Dagger~
Semjaza
Interactive DVDs are basically point and click games. You get a few choices to pick from at certain points that the programmers decided upon. It affects what plays next. There is a very big reason why there aren't many of these in addition to why they're not very popular. I would hope Square would not be stupid enough to do this. Either make a game or make a movie. Don't try to combine them into something that just isn't fun. I've not even heard anyone credible say anything about it being an interactive DVD... in fact, my joking about in my first post is the first time I even saw it ever mentioned lol.
Dagger
Ah, thanks for the explanation. In that case, a straight DVD/movie would probably be far better. I've seen stuff about it being an interactive DVD on a several sites.... but none of them are incredibly reliable, and heaven knows how many false FFVII rumors have been circulating all these years. So chances are that it won't be an interactive DVD. ~Dagger~
