I've never been to a rave, and I don't ever plan on going. I just don't see the point. Music blaring and people bumping into you in the wee hours of the night sounds like a borefest.
Not if you're properly medicated and the bumping has the capacity to turn into something a little more indepth later on.

I've been to two aswell.
The first completely sober. It was absolutely awesome. A bunch of people (mostly DJs and their agents) rented a good couple hundred acres and set up a big stage complete with lighting effects and gigantic, pounding speakers. It went until three in the morning, and the only reason it ended was one of the amplifiers running to the speakers got overheated and burst into flames. Everyone was well prepared and the blaze was under control in seconds.

The second I was rather drunk for, and it was still amazing. It was at an old abandoned factory they rented out. The only thing that bummed me out a little was that the strobes kept on giving me headaches.

All the music that was played was pure Techno and Trance.

The whole concept of a rave seems stupid. Bah, I'm not a rave type anyway. Seems like a waste, and not really a good time. Somthing about going out into a cornfield, getting loaded, and listening to music designed to amuse Ex addicts seems like a very... unintellegent thing to do. Jam's are where I'm at. Don't even have to be any good on the guitar, just get up on stage with some buddies and rip. That's a party.

That's where it becomes a borefest, lol.

Anyway, do you dance in a rave, or do you just kind of ... move around? It doesn't look like there's much room for dancing, save putting your hands in the air and shakin' it. Heh.

For the non-sober Rave I attended, I danced for hours until my lungs burned and my body ached.
For the sober one, I just kinda cruised for interesting people... Though the ones on ecstacy always seemed to find me... E makes people love everyone and anyone. Not a huge turn on. I usually ended up literally pulling them off me and placing them in someone elses arms. Taking advantage of drugged up people isn't my thing.

Raves aren't for everyone. You actually have to go to really see if you like it or not, though, and if you do like it, it's because it's a fun thing to do. lol So you're asking what the point is, well people have fun there, and that's all there is to it. :p

The only real rave I've ever been to was a couple weeks ago when they had one at Otakon, a big anime convention. XD And yes, I know what you're thinking: otaku people dressed up in costumes trying to dance with glow sticks. Bad idea. But with a solid execution and people there to kind of model what you're supposed to do in a rave, it turned out to be a blast. I've been to dance clubs before where they played a lot of rap, and they don't really compare much to this rave that I went to.

The main differences between clubs and raves, I noticed, were the music and dancing. The rave I went to played a lot of techo, and though I don't listen to much myself, it was fitting. The rap was fitting for the clubs too in a sense.. but I'm not a fan of rap so I was never able to really appreciate it. As for the dancing, I'd quickly compare club dancing to, well.. having sex with your clothes on. Rave dancing, on the other hand, though you might get pretty close to your partner, puts a bigger emphasis on feeling the music and dancing on your own.

When I got in there, I didn't plan to do much dancing, and instead just walk around and see what it was like, and maybe watch for a bit. As fate would have it, though, I ran into some girls that were in my old anime club I went to, and they sort of forced me into dancing. lol I don't know how to dance and am pretty shy to say the least, but they somehow taught me to break loose of those barriers in a sense. I think I was in there for a couple hours, and had a really fun time. Even if you don't like them much, you have to acknowledge that there is a point to having them. ;)

You were there sweet. I was there that was the second rave i went to.

The good type of raves take place in wharehouses. Ones that are in giant cornfields are kinda of hard to here because there is no echo.

Not when they have all the speakers on ten-foot tripods in a gigantic circle pointing inward.

Going to a rave(s) is very high up on my to-do list. It's always been a dream of mine. The music, the lights, the darkness, the total disregard for personal space. Bliss.

Some friends of mine throw a local rave every whenever they feel like it. It's substance-free, of course, and always has an excellent turn out. I believe that you don't need to be "trippin" to have a good time at a rave, because if everyone around you is f'd on E, then you start to act like it, too.

Hmmm... Only sixteen and been to dozens of raves...
For some reason I question this statement, but whatever.
I would say, assuming that it is true, that your parents need to exert a bit more control over you. Plus I'm relatively sure it's against the law for you to be there, being underaged (unless your parents took you, which would be awesome).
Both of the raves I went to were after I turned 18.

Huh?
People on ecstacy don't make other people act like they're on ecstacy.
It doesn't affect you unless you took some, whereas if you're in the same general area as someone who is smoking pot you can get a second-hand high.
Ecstacy is a pill. Not something that you can get any kind of second-had high off of.

You wouldn't believe what teenagers can get into  not that I would know or anything.

Actually I've never been to a rave before but I've known many people that have gone to them in San Francisco. Supposedly, raves can get pretty dangerous and I heard stories about people constantly getting into fights and girls being taken advantage of. But I'm sure its a lot of fun, honestly I wouldn't go to one drunk or on anything just out of the fact that there are people who are willing to take advantage of you. I've gone to many clubs however, and even though there are still fights (rarely where I'm from), the music is mostly rap, and people get drunk, I somewhat think I'd feel safer at a club since that's what I'm use too. I'm not too much into techno and I think the rapid and repeating beats without words would give me a headache after awhile. lol.

Still, it's amusing to think of what a rave would be like. Maybe oneday I'll find out for myself. Until then, I'll keep wondering.

You missed my point completely. I'm not saying that you literally get high, you just start acting like them. Contageous behavior is what it is. Oh, and if anyone reading this is from my area, the local rave is SPACE DANCE!

Bondage boy and D-L33T-SHUN, can you please give your posts a little more substance in future? For instance, tell us why you want to rave as soon as you're eighteen. Or why you love techno.

And Bondage boy especially, try and use punctuation a bit more. Or at all. It makes you posts easier to understand, so people can get your point more easily.

Actually it makes you look ignorant, or noobed. :animesigh

Anyhoo, I myself have never been to a Rave. They do sound interesting and fun though. I probebly would like it, for I love my techno music. But alas, the lack of a vehicle is always a problem.

Techno has such a fun rhythm and beat. I usually find myself tapping my fingers to it and humming, much to my brother's dismay.

I personaly would want to go to a rave due to the fact that I am almost utterly in love with any kind of techno music. I mean the beats alone, once I get myself really into a song. I just cant stop unless I pass out. Or the music ends leaving me to go back to my every day life. The chance to meet new kinds of people. Hopefully ones that you can last a lifetime with and still be good friends kind, should be able to be found at places like that. Most people at raves should atleast have one or more things in common. If thats not a good reason to go to a rave alone then I dont know what is.
