GuyYouMetOnline
Welcome to the Festival of Life The Festival of Life is an annual three-day celebration held in the capital city of Alsoto. Nobody knows the origin of the Festival of Life, but that hasn't affected the celebration at all. As the name implies, the Festival of Life is a celebration of life itself. It's also an opportunity for people to enjoy themselves. Every year, the Festival of Life attracts talent from all across the land. Artists will put their art on display. Acting troups will perform their latest plays. Bards will entertain the crowds with tales of heroism. There will be songs, dance, and basically every form of entertainment imaginable. Everything has a message, everything expresses in some way the importance of life, but that never gets in the way of entertainment. People come from everywhere to enjoy the Festival of Life. Many spend years saving up enough money to afford the journey. Each year, people fill the city, and even more set up camp outside, unable to find room at an inn but determined to experience the festival. This year, the city of Alsoto has spent weeks preparing for what could be the greatest Festival of Life of all time. Word has spread of an unknown person who will be performing in the festival. Nobody knows who this person is, but it's definatly someone special. Everybody wants to know just who this mystery performer is, and curiosity is drawing an unprecedented number of people to Alsoto. Security has always been an issue. With so many people in one place, many of them nobles or other weathy individuals, theft is a major concern, as is assination. Trained soldiers are everywhere, doing what they can to protect everyone at the festival. This year, there is an additional concern. Over the past couple of months, there have been multiple ocurances of dragons attacking humans seemingly at random. Settelments of any size were never attacked, but travelers were. Never individuals or small groups, but many merchant caravans have been destroyed, and there are even a few ships that dragons have attacked. Everyone was saying that it was only a matter of time before a city or town was attacked. This, plus the sheer number of people coming to the festival, has resulted in greater security then ever before, and preperations are being made for a possible dragon attack. People arriving at the city are not allowing themselves to think about such things. They are there to have fun. They're all filled with anticipation for this year's festival. Meanwhile, residents of Alsoto are themselves gearing up for the celebraions. Many are taking time off during the festival to enjoy themselves (though not everyone is, and those that are aren't taking the whole three days off. Nobody's willing to let such a good business opportunity pass them by); even though they've been there for past festivals, they await each year's with anticipation. Nobody ever knows exactly what will happen. In case you haven't figured it out yet, this RPG will be about the events at this year's Festival of Life. At least, that's how it'll start. Anyways, let's get down to business, shall we? This RPG is going to be pretty free-form. I won't be restricting your actions too much. As long as you follow OB's rules, there shouldn't be any problems. There will be a central plot, of course, but what your characters actually do is up to you. Of course, this is a fantasy-type world (you know, magic, dragons, low tech level, etc.), so keep that in mind. Now, on to the characters. You're allowed to play as either a human or a dragon (if you want to do both, that's fine. I'll allow people to have two characters). Each race has different guidelines, which are explained in the relevant parts of their respective sign-up forms. Humans first. A human character can be a resident of Alsoto, someone who's come to Alsoto to enjoy the festival, someone who's a part of the festival (someone performing in the festival, someone who works with such a performmer, etc.), or one of the soldiers hired for security purposes. If you want to play as the 'mystery performer', PM me. Now, here's the human sign-up form: Name: Age: I'll allow characters to be as young as 14, but keep in mind that your character's age affects other things. Younger characters are less knowledgeable than older ones. Also, younger characters can't be as skilled with weapons (in fact, most young people have never uesd any kind of weapon), and if they have any magical talent, they will still be learning magic. Also, if an underage (younger than 18) character has a job, it will probably be helping with the family business (for example, if the character's family owns a tavern, he/she would work in that tavern). Gender: Appearence: Picture or description. Class: What your character is skilled at. Be specific. For example, don't put 'warrior'. Put something more specific, like 'swordsman'. Or instead of 'mage', specify the type of magic (basic spellcasting, elemental magic, healing, etc.). it's okay for a character to have more than one class, but the combination must make sense (for example, 'Healer/Water Elementalist' is fine, but 'Fire Elementalist/Water Elementalist' is an unlikly combination, and is not acceptable). Occupation: Your character's job. This is affected by age, as explained above, and by class. Your characters job must fit the character's class (a healer isn't going to make a living as a hunter, for example. He/she will make a living as a healer). Personality: The way your character behaves. This doesn't have to be too detailed, but put a few sentences down. Bio: Your character's history. Again, this doesn't have to be too detailed, but it can be if you want it to. Now for dragons. You can be basically any kind of dragon, and there aren't really any restrictions on character. You can be anything from a kinder dragon to a treasure-hording one to a monster who delights in taking life. If you decide to play a dragon, post your sign-up, and after I read it I'll PM you, giving you ways you can get the character invloved in the main plot. Now, here's the dragon sign-up form: Name: Be creative. Make it sound like something a different race would come up with. Age: Dragons have very long lives, so a dragon character can be very old in human terms. Gender: Appearance: Picture or description. Personality: Keep in mind the differencs between dragons and humans. A dragon would probably not behave in the same manner as a human. Bio: Again, keep in mind the differences between humans and dragons. A dragon's life will most likely be very different from a human's. Depending on the number of sign-ups I get, I may or may not accept everybody. Larger numbers of participants is good for a free-form RPG like this one, but having too many will only create problems. Well, I think that's everything. PM me with any questions.
Frankie
Yay! Another RPG that grabs at my intrest. There havnt been many of these lately. Name: Nait Algorin (Her first name is pronounced Night) Gender: Female Age: 20 (About to turn 21) Class: Healer & Water Elementalist Occupation: Inn Keeper/ Healer Personality: She normally has a bright attitude and is quite kind. When angered though not much can stop her and when sad not much can cheer her up. All in all she is quite kind and almost to giving and kind yet very hard to work with sometimes. Bio: She grew up in her parents Inn that was passed down from generation to generation and it is her turn next. While her parents are still in charge or ownership she is now running it part time. Most ofthe time she could be found upstairs in one of the Inn's rooms healing small problems like cuts, broken bones, and common sicknesses. Not quite good at her abilities she is still unable to lift major sicknesses that could later cause death but she is getting better. With her water abilities though she has another job she can profit from. Sometimes fires start here and there and she can drown the fires. But because she is so nice she never charges for these duties or the healing. She is looking forward to the Festival of Life because it is also her birthday. She was born on the second day of celebration years ago and each celebration is special to her. Appearance: She stands to about 6'2''. Her brown wavy hair flows to the middle of her back and is normally tied in a pony tail then wrapped in purple ribbons to keep it out of her face. She has very soft cream colored skin. She usually wears a velvety purple dress with wide flowy sleeves and a brown leather belt. Her brown leather boots go up to just under her knees. When you see her working behind the bar at her Inn you see her in leather pants, plain leather shoes, and a leather vest over a white cloth shirt. EDIT: She has emerald Green eyes. Andrew
Sounds cool. Let me know if you have any problems or want anything changed. Name: Vincent John Ezekiel, Also sometimes referred to as ‘V’, John or ‘Zeek’. Age: 47 Gender: Male Appearance: For a man pushing fifty Vincent looks deceptively young. His head is still full of light brown hair that hangs just past his neckline and his hazel eyes still hold the bright spark of a young and adventurous teen. He often sports a full beard of the same colour as his hair and is almost always found smiling. He stands at roughly 5’10” and weighs approximately 170 lbs. His body is kept in shape and ripples with powerful muscles all over. Vincent normally wears bottoms and a long sleeved top made from a material, which looks deceptively like leather. This is however not the case, as his tunic is made from the skin of a once powerful dragon. Vincent also wears a large black cloak when outdoors. Class: Vincent is highly skilled and well trained mage who is highly proficient in many areas, whilst still only holding a basic level of ability in others (This will be explained). Occupation: Scientist/Inventor Personality: Although Vincent has lived by himself for many years he still remembers his manners and can hold an intelligent conversation with almost anyone. He is very outgoing and generally sees the humour in everything. Vincent is often described as ‘The Mad Scientist’ for this very reason and there are no doubts that he is eccentric. Vincent has a reputation for standing up for those who have little and those who need protecting. He tends to live carefree and takes life as it comes. He is a highly likeable person to most and enjoys the company of new and strange people. Bio: Vincent was born from a line of noble mage scholars and therefore was schooled in basic spell casting and wizardry from an early age. Always fascinated by dragons and generally curious, Vincent disrespected his family’s heritage by leaving their empire to learn more of the dragons. Some time after his eighteenth birthday he packed up what little of his treasured possessions he could with enough money taken from his father to live on and headed off on his journey of knowledge. Of course, Vincent didn’t just stumble upon a dragon after leaving his doorstep, it took many years to actually see a dragon with his own eyes. However on his travels Vincent lived in many places and met many people. He would learn many thing whilst working with and for various people which aided in his later research of the dragons. Finally learning that dragons were regularly seen in and around the Alsoto area, Vincent headed in that direction. Although Vincent had once led a life of luxury on his Father’s estate he quickly adapted to living alone and learned to live off the land and quickly set up a dwelling in the Mountain region not too far from Alsoto. Vincent’s first encounter with a dragon was more than likely his most memorable. Whilst out collecting berries, rabbits and fire wood for the cold night ahead Vincent followed a horrible screeching sound to the injured form of a dragon. Vincent finally seizing his opportunity immediately came to the dragon’s aide only to meet hostility. Using his charismatic personality to his advantage, Vincent quickly convinced the dragon that he would bring him no harm and only wished to help, revealing his basic level of healing magic. Vincent later learned that some pirates wishing to steal his hide and sell it had attacked the dragon, named Genesis. Vincent had learned much earlier that dragon skin and bones were highly sought after and those selling them were handsomely paid. Vincent and Genesis naturally became fast friends and Genesis taught Vincent much of the nature and ways of dragons. Vincent also learned that through knowledge gained from his dragon friend that he could create new spells and increase his own powers as well. Unfortunately, Genesis died several months later, revealing that he was a very old and wise dragon. Vincent was deeply moved by the loss of his first and only dragon friend and, following Genesis’ wishes, fashioned clothing from the dragon’s dead form as a way to always be with and protect Vincent even in death. Through the next few years Vincent built up a more sophisticated dwelling in the mountain area and met and observed many more dragons. Vincent occasionally went into Alsoto for previous Festivals and other events and regularly used the Algorin family Inn quickly becoming close to the family. During his time on the mountains, Vincent and has seen and learnt much and is often sought out for aid to other scholars and those wishing to learn about dragons, as well as the curious traveller here and there wishing to meet the mountain’s ‘Mad Scientist’. Vincent has reached somewhat mythical fame for his endeavours with dragons and his various creations. Something in Vincent’s gut tells him that this years festival will be most enjoyable and he will be leaving his dwelling for Algorin Inn in Alsoto very soon.
GuyYouMetOnline
Everyone looks good so far. Oh, the role of the mystery performer is no longer open. And no, I'm not going to tell you who got the role. You'll just have to wait and see for yourselves. Now, here's my sign-up: Name: Eso Kensajaq Age: 29 Gender: Male Apearance: At 6ft. 4in. in height, Eso is usually the tallest person around. He's in excellent shape, and it shows. He's a muscular man, which only adds to his overall image. Then there are the scars. He has several scars as a result of combat, and some are in rather... painful places. He's quite the intimidating sight. Class: Swordsman/Earth Elementalist Occupation: Soldier Personality: Eso makes an excellent soldier. He's strong, tough as hell, has quick reflexes, and absolutly refuses to quit. It doesn't matter how badly wounded he is; if he's physically able to keep going, he'll keep going. He simply refuses to quit. If he's up against a superior opponent, he won't rush headfirst into battle, but neither will he retreat. He's stubborn, but not a moron. He'll look for anything that can give him a chance. Only if there is absolutly no chance of success will he quit. Bio: Eso was raised in a sheltered environment. He and his family lived in a small village. His father, Kaeo, was the village blacksmith. When Eso was old enough, Kaeo began instructing him in the trade. Eso expected that, when the time came, he would take his father's place, but that never came to pass. When Eso was 19, the entire village was destroyed. Eso doesn't remember what happened. All he can remember is the village burning, and people dying. Only a few were lucky enough to survive. Eso was among the survivors; his parents were not. The surivors had to decide what to do next. Eventually, they'd all go their seperate ways, but for the time being, it would be best for them to stick together. They took everyting they could find in the ruins of the dstroyed village, then set off. Four days of travel brought them to Alsoto, where they parted ways. eso never saw any of them again. Eso was the only one of the survivors to remain in Alsoto. He was taken in as an assistant by a local blacksmith, but soon left. He just couldn't do it anymore, not after his father's death. And he had no other skills. He found the one occupation where they didn't expect you to be skilled when you first came. He became a soldier. It was durring Eso's training as a soldier that his powers as an earth elementalist first appeared. He was tols that this wasn't unusual; until then, there had been nothing to bring them out, except maybe the destruction of the village. Eso wondered if maybe that was how he survived, if he somehow used his power without knowing it. Such a thing wasn't unheard of, especially in life-threatening situations. The use of his powers was added to his instruction, and he is now able to fight with both weapon and his earth-based powers. Eso lives in Alsoto, and is no stranger to the Festival of Life. He's usually there as part of the security for the event, though there've been a couple where he wasn't on duty. This year, he is on duty, but he doesn't mind, though he is intriuged by this mystery performer. Of course, he'll be there for the performance anways, so there's really no problem. He just has to make sure not to give too much attention to the performer. After all, he's not there to watch the show. He's there to make sure the people stay safe. rokas
Name: Epock Tattler Age: 62 Gender: Male Apearance: See attachement. Class: Crossbowman Occupation: General craftsman though clockmaking is his specialty. Personality: Although Epock can spend days working on an intricate piece of machinery he can loose his patience after a couple of minutes of a conversation with a person. Generaly he's well natured, but he feels that life hasn't allways been polite with him, which somehow gives him a right to say exactly what he want's to say even though other's may find it rude. Likes straightforward, honest people. Prefers to use brain instead of brawn in tricky situations. Bio: Epocks parents sent him to be an apprentice to a clockmaker when he was twelve. He never saw his family again. Some years later when he felt skilled enough he left his teacher to look for a job somewhere else. Eventualy he ended up in Alsoto. There he settled down, got married. Unfortunately his wife died couple of years later, leaving him no offspring. He never remarried. Epock's grandest job was designed and supervised the building of the towns tower clock. This gained him some respect in the eyes of the towners and even though this was a long time a go business has been good since. However demands for clocks is low nonetheless, so epock also builds repairs any other kinds of mechanisms (from moustraps to pipe organs), and specialises in ornate and fidly woodwork. The Festival of Life period is always profitable for him. This year however instead of fidles and trumpets he has been getting more orders for wepons, especialy his patented armor piercing arrows. He invented theese by accident. It's been a long lived dream of his to built a flying machine. So far he has been succesful in building a couple flying models, but never got the chance to construct them full scale. Once he realised that a glider he was developing needed high speed to take off. Since clockwork mechanism or any other type of engine weighed the model down too much, he built an arbalest to fire it. From that glider model he developed an arrow that could fly further and straighter. Properly sharpened it could pierce a metal plate some yards away. After he made and sold a bunch of theese news reached him that someone used those arrows to kill a dragon. It's not clear how much truth there is to that story, but orders for the new arrows came rushing in after that. Since then Epok developed some aerodinamic throwing knives and some spring powered dart shooters. He's proficient in the wepons he created himself, especialy his crosbow. Epok owns a two storey workshop where he lives and works. He has a cat called Ticker and an aprentise called Eric. For a while Epok has been planing to leave the shop to Eric gather up all his savings and concentrate on his personal projects but an opportunity never comes, especialy now that he's busy with the orders for oncoming festival. ghostchick
Humans first. A human character can be a resident of Alsoto, someone who has come to Alsoto to enjoy the festival, someone who is a part of the festival (someone performing in the festival, someone who works with such a performer, etc.), or one of the soldiers hired for security purposes. If you want to play as the 'mystery performer', PM me. Now, here is the human sign-up form: Name: Gwen Zil Age: 25 Gender: Female Appearance: Class: Swordswoman/ Elemental Mage: Wind Occupation: Gwen is a sword for hire. She also will perform a few sword tricks if she is in desperate need of money. Personality: Gwen is a strong, tough, ?if a guy can do it so can I? sort of girl. She also has a sensitive side that not a lot of people see because she is putting up such a strong ?rough and tough? attitude. Bio: Your character's history: Gwen grew up as a traveler with her Father. When she was 13 her Father died on the road out of the ?celebration?, thieves killed him. Gwen then went to the nearest village and asked for help, a couple took her in. Gwen is now kind of like a mercenary (her Father taught her how to defend herself using all sorts of different weapons).
GuyYouMetOnline
rokas, you're good. ghostchick, your character is too young. Remember, underage (younger than 18) people aren't going to be on their own. For the character you have, I'd recommend having her be at least 25. I'm going to start the RPG now. Sign-ups will remain open, so feel free to join if you haven't yet done so.
DeathKnight
Name: Ashwin Crow. Age: 50. Gender: Male. Appearance: See attachment. He stands at a respectable height of 6'02" and is in fit condition. He usually wears an ornate robe that is decorated with a rather large, strange symbol on it's back. The meaning of this symbol is unknown although it is rumored to have something to do with Ashwin's past. Class: Sage of the Bane - Ashwin is an accomplished master of using magical curses, hexes or otherwise. They range from minor affairs like putting one to sleep or simple bad luck to more viscous hexes that involve poison, diseases or invoking the essence of darkness itself. At the same time, he can remove any such curse or hex that has been invoked in the environment or placed on a person. Occupation: Owner of a very well-known antiques and artifacts shop that includes merchandise of a magical nature. Personality: Ashwin is rather laid back and easy going after his many years alive. He is not prone to anger or any negative emotions that easily. He has a balance between depression and happiness that he maintains- contentment is more what he seeks than any amounts of joy or rapture. He socializes moderately but often spends his free time writing or with his daughter. He is regarded as being somewhat aloof but likable. Bio: The Crows are famously known to be an enigmatic family who are rather proud of a heritage that they don't speak of and no one else knows about. They are regarded as brilliant- eccentric, but brilliant. Each of the Crows has become successful in whatever ventures they attempt but they always have a quirky nature about themselves. Spectacular as they are, there is some mistrust of their secretive nature and the mystery that hangs over their past. Ashwin's past too is shrouded in mystery. He never speaks of anything in his past that predates his arrival in Alsoto. Twenty five years ago he literally appeared out of no where, showed off his wealth by building a lavish shop in a prime location then proceeded to fill it with various artifacts, antiques, trinkets and otherwise. The sign outside of the shop read "Ashwin's Atelier", people began to shop there and he simply stayed. No amount of coaxing could get him to reveal what had occurred prior to that. Rumors abound ranging from him being exiled from the Crow clan to some sort of horrible tragedy involving his family- but nothing has been confirmed. Every year he took a yearly 'vacation' for one to two months in the winter. He always came back with plenty of new merchandise to last him for the rest of the year. Aside from the merchandise, he often came back physically wounded but refused to divulge exactly where he went or what had harmed him so. Five years back, he came back with something else aside from merchandise or wounds- he had a small, taciturn five year old girl. Her name was Lynn- a shy and quiet girl whom Ashwin had found near-death in a place he, of course, refused to describe. Ashwin took her in as her own; from then on out she was his daughter and apprentice. Since then, Ashwin has trained Lynn in the basics of his brand of magic while maintaining his profitable business and eccentric ways. He is very fond of the Festival of Life as it is the briskest time of year in his shop. Ever since Lynn arrived, though, he has balanced this with making sure that they both have plenty of fun aside from their business. This year should be twice as special because of the rumors about an unknown person performing. His curiosity continues to grow.
Zephyr
Name: Alno'dra (short for Alno Drasal, apostrophe indicates a slight pause when spoken) Age: 23 Gender: Male Appearance: Alno'dra is 6' 3" tall, with brown hair and eyes. The thin build of his body hides his true strength from years of hunting and labor. His attire consists of a red shirt and broken-in, black work pants, along with a black cloak and a pair of boots that have seen quite a bit of mileage. On his left forearm is an elaborate, dark red tattoo that looks similar to vines wound around the arm, a common design in his village. Around his neck he wears a raindrop-shaped crystal, about three inches long, that sparkles as though it contained pure fire. The crystal is rumored to change color depending on the elemental powers of the one wearing it. Class: Hunter, Fire/Smoke Mage Occupation: Odd jobs (explained in bio) Personality: Quiet, but not shy. Although he does not say much, Alno'dra has no problem speaking his mind when he chooses to. He is also quite laid-back and calm, to the point that he is mistaken for being aloof or uncaring. Alno'dra forces himself to control his emotions because he has a nasty temper he wants to keep hidden. Bio: Alno'dra grew up in a tribe of nomads, who traveled the Eastern lands following the migration of the land's animals. Even though he grew up without knowing his true mother, he had plenty of surrogate mothers from the rest of the tribe. Most of his time was spent hunting for food, performing manual labor whenever the village moved, and learning from the village elders how to control magic forces. It was not easy for him to learn at first, but over time he began to excel in fire and smoke based magics. This became a big help on the night of his sixteenth birthday. As was the village's custom, Alno'dra set out at the age of sixteen for his "Separation Trial." This trial was meant to last only eight days, and teach him how to survive without assistance. However, it did not work out that way. On the eighth day he became completely separated from the tribe when a storm system tore apart the landscape, leaving him blocked from returning home. He spent several weeks trying to return, but the village had packed up by the time he had found the location. Since that day, Alno'dra has become a wanderer, moving from town to town. He worked whatever jobs he could find to earn enough to survive while he searched for anyone that may have come across his tribe. Eventually this way of life brought him to Alsoto on the day of the celebration. The perfect place to find people that may have info. Let me know if there is anything you want me to change. He learned a great many skills from his father, including how to fight, steal, and if need be, kill. However, the most important of these was the theives code. This taught James to never steal from another theif, never steal a man's last dollar, and never steal from a man who can't make it back. However, when Hector was killed by rival theives after stealing a precous jem they wanted, James lost his edge and faith in his skills. James now works as a travelling street preformer who makes his real living as a pick pocket. He was attracted to The Festival of Life for obvious reasons, hoping to make a quick buck off some rich saps.
