"So, Mr. Dryga, tell me about these...'specters,' as you call them."

A new doctor. Last one dead. Dead 'cuz Anger said so.

"That's what they are, not what I call 'em."

People never understood. Called him crazy, just 'cuz things were a little different in his world. Called him crazy, gave him medecines to make the voices go away. But never for long. Just a few days, maybe, before they came crashing back. Anger didn't like the medicine. He got real mad when Calon took them, and made sure he wouldn't again.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Dryga," Doctor says, and he smiles like they all do. Like Calon's nothing but a stupid little kid. "Could you tell me when you first saw them?"

"Years ago. When I was 13, I think."

Answer, stay quiet, don't say anything they don't want to hear.

"And what did you see?"

"Me."

"Just yourself? And where did you see it?"

"In th' mirror."

"So...couldn't it have just been a reflection?"

"Wuz, at first. Then it started talkin'. Your reflection ever talk to you, doc?"

He was quiet. The Sane Ones didn't like it when Crazies tried to call 'em crazy, too.

"No, I can't say that it has," he answered slowly. And smiled again. Calon could feel that black, sick feeling rising in his stomach, and cast a fearful glance towards the shadows. "So, it was just you, at first?"

"Yeah."

"And what did it say?"

"I don't remember...just some things. I was scared, of course, and told ma'. She thought I was makin' up stories again, and didn't give me dinner that night."

You're talking too much, Calon dear.

Fear. Not Anger, like he thought. Just snakey, shadowy Fear. She was hiding in the dark corner, but Calon knew she was there, and that it was her. He felt the cold chill in his skin that always came with her.

"She didn't? Did she do things like this often?"

"Just...Just when she thought I was tellin' stories."

We don't want to hear about Mama!

Shame's voice, high and watery and shrill. Stepped out of the shadows in her stained and torn dress, face smeared with too much make-up, little blond pig-tails wild on her head. Her pudgy, little girl's face was twisted in offended anger.

"And what did she usually do?"

Make him stop talking about her, Calon! Make him do it!

"I...I don't wanna talk about her," Calon muttered, color rising in his pale, narrow cheeks. "Can't we just talk about somethin' else?"

The doctor looked startled. Of course, he would be. He couldn't hear the voices, or know just what Mama did to make the Spectres hate her so much.

"Why don't you want to talk about her, Mr. Dryga?"

"Because...it's makin' them unhappy."

The doctor smiled secretively, and his watery blue eyes glittered behind coke-bottle glasses.

"So, some of them are here, now?"

"...Yeah."

"Which ones, Calon? What are you feeling?"

"Fear. And Shame."

"Shame? Are you ashamed of your mother?"

...astar...ill hi...

His voice, thick and harsh, rising from the gloom. He was coming, and with it that sick, black feeling in the pit of Calon's stomach.

"No, I'm not. And I'm not 'fraid of her, neither, so don't even ask."

"Then why are you feeling Shame?"

"Because...you're...you're..."

"What?"

"You're making fun of me!"

And then, all at once, he was here. Anger. Like the stench of death, or a bucket of ice water, he was just there, horrible and unpleasent and oh god what would he do this time?

"I assure you, I'm not making fun of you, Calon," the doctor said, with that smarmy little chuckle they all had.

He is, Calon. Make him pay...

"Yes you are," Calon said, gritting his teeth. "You think I'm just some nutjob, like everybody else. Probably think I'd do best in a straight jacket and hopped up on those pills you keep pushing at me. Isn't that right, Doc?"

"I assure you, Calon, I just want to learn about your - "

"My what, Doc? My 'condition'? My 'hallucinations'?"

"Well, I..."

"See? You do think I'm crazy. Well, you know what? Maybe I am. But I'm not gonna sit here and have you gawk at me like some fucking animal."

Calon rose to leave, and he could tell that Anger was pleased. Shame was gone, at least, and that was a good sign. But Anger and Fear were still side by side in the shadows, waiting for Calon to open the door and let them out. Let them roam the world for a little bit longer.

"Please, Mr. Dryga - "

"Fuck you, shrink."

Slam. Door closed, and Calon walking away from another quack. "The State" would just send him to another in a week or two, but that didn't matter. For now, he just wanted to get home. Get home, and sleep. Make the voices disappear for a couple of hours.

Once the doors opened, Fear began to wrap herself around Calon, watching his every movement, studying the very core of his being, but soon tired when Anger turned to her, wanting to speak with Calon but she didn?t move an inch, knowing that this irritated him. She loved to see Anger steam away, exploding left and right, but more so, she loved the way Calon squirmed away when Anger did this for whatever reason Anger was, well, angry about, he took it out on Calon and a distinct fear exuded from him and she enjoyed its taste ever so much.

?Calm down, Anger. You?re just a tad bit... uptight.? The words began to form from Anger?s unseen lips but stopped, seeing that Fear was playing with him, once again. She began to form a head, which was quickly followed by a neck, the shoulders, and slowly the entire upper body with visible arms and hands were soon formed. ?You should lighten up. I mean, we did stand in the corner, listening to that duck of a man flap his mouth away as if he knew our boy, as if he knew the things he was going through.? As she said this, the back of her right hand began to stroke Calon?s cheeks, feeling the heat that rose from them. She then took it off slightly and looked to Anger, who walked beside Calon and Fear, who was apparently still wrapped around Calon.

All I need to do is go home and lie down, then I can have some peace and quiet. Knowing that the Emotions could hear his thoughts, especially Anger and Fear for they were right beside him, he took a quick mental note and nothing more. He looked to the two and saw that they didn?t notice anything. He smiled slightly but returned his face to its normal structure after listening to Fear.

?What should we do today, my dear boy?? At that moment, Fear was walking in what appeared to be a human form. ?Well, speak up boy. You know that I don?t just like to read your mind. Hearing your voice shudder and quake is enough for the bells to ring.?

?He?s not doing anything.? Calon looked to Anger who looked straight ahead or what appeared to be looking straight. His eyes averted to Fear who took her shadow form again and stood in front of Anger. ?Get out of my way, Fear. I told you that he wasn?t doing anything. He knows what I?ll do to him if he doesn?t do what I say anyways.?

With great stubborn and a high opinion, Fear still stood in Anger?s way, knowing that she wanted to have fun and that she was going to get it whether Anger liked it or not.

?Tell me to get of your way as much as you like, Anger, but it won?t change the fact that I?ll have my way with the boy.? All the Emotions knew who Fear spoke of when she said, ?The Boy? or anything like it. It was nickname she chose for Calon because of his inferiority to the negative Emotions that controlled him. She also called him this because of the way it sounded, so playful and quirky. The other Emotions, most of them actually, dared not to ask Fear to choose a different nickname, knowing that she would switch personalities within a second should anyone defy her, like Anger?s doing at the moment but with Anger, it was different.

?Calon?s going home, Fear! Get out of my way or I?ll make you.?

?Menacing, explosive, and down-right beautiful, yet at the same time so predictable, aren?t you, my dear?? Turning around and having her back to Anger, Fear resumed human form and listened to the heels of her human shoes click against the ground, breathing in the staring eyes that wondered the odd sounds that they heard. ?Fine, have your way with the boy. I?ll just have to deal with these fools for now.?

Beth tapped her pen erratically on a pile of forms that had been recently tossed onto her desk. She sighed and brushed some of her hair from her forehead, deliberately looking for something, anything, that would take her mind off of these bloody forms?

?Beth, phone call.?

Her face lit up as she picked up her phone, answering the call with an unusually chirpy ?Hello.?

She was met by near silence, except for the laboured breathing of her Chief, a man who became very stressed in tense situations. This certainly did not bode well.

??Sir?? Beth ventured, her tone now a lot quieter, as well as worried.

?We?ve got another one.? Was the even quieter answer. Beth?s face fell and she pressed her knuckles into her eyes, the habit she had formed since starting in Homicide.

?Sir, I?ve just got the forms for the last murder, can?t I just???

?No, you?ve been with these since the start, you aren?t backing out now.?

?We don?t even know if they?re connected!? Beth?s voice shot up, impatience clear in her tone. She was, needed a vacation and yet she was still being overloaded with all these new cases. They hadn?t even found evidence linking these latest murders, except?that was the problem.

?Perfect murders, Elizabeth,? the Chief paused, he was serious when he used her Christian name, ?How many of those do we get??

The detective nodded and run her fingers through her hair, a slight flush present on her cheeks.

?I?ll get right on it.?

She picked up her things after setting down the phone and headed out of the office, her partner following in quick step. He?d ask her when they reached the car, he decided, no point asking an irate Beth what was going on.

Forgiveness couldn't believe that Honor and Joy would just stand to the side and let Anger and Fear rule Calon as they would. It broke her heart to see her beloved young man broken and tangled in his own emotions like this.

She ran to catch up with Calon, but stopped when Anger stepped in front of her and looked down at her disapprovingly. Forgiveness slowed down and kept back, but watched Fear with sadness. Hope came next to her and swung her up to rest on his shoulder. She rested her hand on his head.

Forgiveness - "Hope, why doesn't Calon fight them? And why does he let those men treat him like that?"

Hope was silent, thinking of an answer he could give her. His steady strides told her that he did have one, but he just had to figure out how to tell her. She continued to stroke his hair back from his forehead as they followed Anger, Fear, and Calon.

Hope - "Calon has had all of us around him since he was small, Forgiveness. He never built up the resistance against Anger and Fear, but we have to be thankful that he didn't block us out completely."

Forgiveness was quiet again. Up ahead, Anger had a hold on Calon again, only this time he was fighting with Fear and Shame. Honor glared at them from a distance, and muttered insults. Forgiveness had lost sight of Joy, and knew Calon had given up on her. Forgiveness heaved a heavy sigh and the two continued on their way, carefully never letting Calon and the fiercer emotions out of their sight.

OOC: I didn't give a good description of my character's appearance, so this is what he looks like.

"Impotence, I tell you, Calon. Pure cowards, those other emotions are," Anger followed close beside Calon, "Also, do I have to tell you how annoying they all are?"

Calon pretended to ignore him and picked up the pace. The streets were too crowded. Being pushed and shoved and surrounded by harsh society was the thing Calon scampered through so furiously to get away from. Home--home is where he wanted to be; alone and out of the scrutinizing eyes of people who thought they were better than him. Anger scoffed and shoved a young woman into a happy couple. All three turned around to shout and complain, but Calon just kept his pace and didn't even blink, much less turn around to apologize.

"That was a mean thing you did...you should apologize, you horrible little boy," Shame slithered to his ear.

"They deserved it, and you know it. Now, get back in-line," Anger hissed.

"But, they didn't do anything," Calon pulled his jacket tighter.

"Sure they did, Calon. Did you see the way they were throwing themselves all over each other? It was disgusting, and had a hint of flaunting. I don't like people throwing their glee in the faces of those who are less fortunate. It's cruel, wouldn't you say so yourself?" Anger jabbed a finger at Calon, a silly grin creeping into the corners of his mouth.

"Aw, listen to that. It actually sounded like he had a hint of sympathy," Forgiveness whispered with a slight chuckle.

"Quiet you," Anger snapped.
