BlueYoshi
New DS Bundles have been announced recently. There's the Nintendog's Bundle, which comes at a lower price with a Teal or Pink DS and a special edition copy of the game, featuring the most popular breeds from each edition of the game as starters. But obviously, you know about that. The next Bundle is said to be a Mario Kart DS one, which comes with a Red DS, and a copy of the game, at a lower price. Some sites call this one a rumour, and others say it's confirmed news. Anyway, I'm thinking of getting a DS soon, but the thing is, I want the default Chrome one, and not a Teal, Pink, or Red one, as they all look terrible (Teal is okay, I suppose). So I'm asking you, what would you do in my shoes? Would you go for the Teal Bundle as it works out cheaper in the long run, or get a Chrome DS just because it looks nicer. Remember people, a DS is for life. ;)
Killer7
Personally I am not a fan of any of the games the DS comes with, so personally I would go with the non-bundle chrome, but thats just me.
James
If the Mario Kart bundle ends up being true, I'd go with that. I'd love a red DS (and of course, getting DS with Mario Kart at a lower price has got to be good). I have a teal DS from Japan, which is nice...but I think I'd rather have gotten the glossy white DS. It's become a cliche, but it does actually look quite cool. Anyway, the teal bundle includes Nintendogs...which is something you may not necessarily want to play. I like Nintendogs, but it is ultimately a much more elaborate Tamagotchi - it probably will not keep your interest for too long if you're more of an ethusiast gamer. So, I'd probably go with chrome since it's the colour you want. That way you can wait a bit and get Mario Kart or Animal Crossing or something, when they come out (rather than being forced to choose something from a bundle). The slight extra cost is probably worth it if that's what you really want. ^_^
Goodbye, Face
I would love a red DS, that would seal the deal for me... if I felt like oweing my father another $200+. I also really like Mario Kart, so that's a plus. I'm kind of curious of Nintendogs, and I like Teal, but I'd rather get the red bundle... if one exists. It'd make a good Christmas present, along with that Viewtiful Joe game.
silpheedpilot
Lets see...I have the Platinum DS but I got it because every Nintendo handheld system I've ever owned was of a silver color. Back when they released the Gameboy Pocket, I got the Silver one. When they released the Gameboy Color I waited until they released those Pokemon edition Gold and Silver GBCs and got one of those Silvers ones, though I did have a neon green one before it, when they released the GBA I had a matte purple one and then I got the Platinum one when it came out. Then after I finally decided to get a Gamecube, only after losing my SexBox, I got the Platinum Gaycube and then finally the Platinum DS. So....Silver runs in the family for me and I would personally get the color of your choice, get a game or two and then wait for the other games you want to come out and you'll more than likely have enough money for them.
Petie
I personally think a red DS would be pretty cool. I've been waiting for Mario Kart DS for a long time now so getting it and a red DS for a cheaper price sounds like a good deal to me. In your case though, I'd just go and get the standard silver DS. If it's the color you really want, you won't regret paying a little extra in the end, especially if you would have ended up with a game you didn't want. I have the silver DS and it does look pretty nice. I have a question now though. Were you even interested in Mario Kart or Nintendogs or were you just mentioning the bundles?
BlueYoshi
Well, I went out and got a DS today. I got the Nintendogs bundle with a teal DS, and as much as I doubted the colour, it actually looks pretty cool. It'll grow on me, I suppose, but for now, I'm happy with it. You know, I had never planned on getting Nintendogs, because it's merely a fleshed out Tamagotchi in my opinion. That's not to say I wouldn't play it, I just felt that a game like Nintendogs wasn't worth £30 at all. Anyway, I started playing the game when I got home, and I got very tired of it, very quickly. I'm a very impatient person if you don't know, and going through the tutorials and such did it for me almost immediately, because they went by way too slowly. I wasn't too fond of the microphone, either... I was too embarrassed to say my puppy's name to my DS in front of my mom lol. Plus, it can get really irritating when the DS doesn't recognise what you said, even though you obviously did say it. So in the end, I sold Nintendogs almost an hour after I had bought it lol, which was the good part. I paid £10 extra for Nintendogs in that bundle, and sold it for £20, and then put the extra money I had left into Super Mario 64 DS, which is now my main game. Just for the record, everyone was right! The game just isn't the same without the analogue stick. So there you have it. My day in a nutshell. Thanks for the heads up though, people. Petie: Yeah, I'm interested in Mario Kart. Very interested, actually. I can't wait to get my hands on it. However, I wasn't keen on getting a red DS at all, because I could imagine my self puking every time I saw it... especially in the summer time. Don't ask. Nintendogs on the other hand, is no good in my book.
James
I felt that Nintendogs was mostly just an interesting showpiece for other people. You know? My little sister plays it quite a bit more than I do and it's something interesting to show to people who visit. Predictably enough, non-gaming friends are the ones who spend the most time playing it. I guess that people like you and me are looking for more, which is understandable. I just wish Nintendo Australia would get more aggressive with DS releases here. Kirby's Canvas Curse isn't even out yet, as far as I know. And that's probably the first game for DS that I'm really quite interested in. On the other hand, they've been very good with getting GameCube software out there...even though the system is basically a non-issue here. Very confusing!
Petie
I paid £10 extra for Nintendogs in that bundle, and sold it for £20, and then put the extra money I had left into Super Mario 64 DS, which is now my main game.
That's awesome that you actually made money off of it. I have a question though. Does the above quote mean you actually have it already? I can't get it until November 14th. And James, I know what you mean. I myself have never actually had any interest in playing Nintendogs but that's probably because of the games I do play. Non-gamers may like Nintendogs a bit more because they're not expecting as much out of it. As for Canvas Curse, I have it and it's actually a lot of fun. Getting used to controlling Kirby using only painted lines with the stylus does not take too long to get used to and actually provides some very interesting game play. It seems pretty easy at first but as you progress, it gets fairly challenging.
BlueYoshi
I think I made a mistake. The bundle I got wasn't the Nintendogs bundle... you know, not the one that comes with the bone-shaped screen cleaner and the Nintendogs skin. I got the one that came with a standard copy of Nintendogs (Labrador), and get this: my DS is blue, not teal. No wonder I thought it looked better than it did in the pictures. From the moment I opened it, nothing was as I thought it would be, seeing as the version of Nintendogs had the same old dogs in it, and the screen cleaner was no where to be found. Your post Petie actually made me look it up and confirm this. So yeah, while I got a Nintendogs DS bundle, it's not actually the "bundle bundle" that's taking the world by storm. But hey, I made a healthy profit so I ain't complaining. :D
Petie
I'm glad everything turned out for the best then. I didn't really clarify my question too well. When I asked if you already had "it," I was referring to Mario Kart. Hehe, I guess it would have helped if I said that though. So this "bundle" turned out to just be a blue DS and a copy of Nintendogs? Maybe it was just a store special or something because as you said, it isn't the "official" bundle (though that's not a big deal seeing as you didn't want Nintendogs anyway).
BlueYoshi
Thought I'd say it here. It turns out that Mario Kart DS is gonna be bundled with a Hot-Rod red DS (cool name) similar to the Nintendogs package. So far I've seen varied images of what the red DS looks like, from a simple metallic red one, to one with flames around the rims, like the one below. I'm guessing that Nintendo will release a Mario Kart DS bundle with a standard red DS, and then release the Hot-Rod red one later on, kind of like what they're doing with Nintendogs. Edit: Petie, the Nintendogs bundle I got wasn't a store special or anything; it was official. The box for the DS I got had an outer layer with that stupid Labrador on it from Nintendogs. So yeah, it was official, but it's not THE bundle that everyone's supposed to be crazy about.
