PROPHETS OF THE LAST ECLIPSE

It has been two long centuries since mankind lost their most precious jewel: the Earth. A Galaxy-wide Exodus of 15 billion people preceded the disaster.

Now, humanity's only home is the stars. But the stars were not empty. Creatures the likes of which could never have been dreamed had long ago claimed their place in the galaxy. Some viewed the humans as poor refugees, to be pitied and helped. Others regarded them as callous, inferior squatters, to be spurned and oppressed. Others saw them as prey, to be hunted and eaten.

Mankind's future is uncertain, but their coming brought much chaos to the already unstable galaxy.

It has been two long centuries since Earth's destruction, and mankind has fought doggedly for their place in the galaxy. There are many settlements on countless planets, satellites, and asteroids that offer a safe haven to humanity.

But now, on the bicentennial of Earth's destruction, a change is felt. Something comes on the solar winds, but what does it promise? Shall it provide mankind's salvation, or mankind's destruction? Will it shed light on the mysteries surrounding Earth's cataclysmic annihilation? What will be the cost?

And where will you stand when the whirlwinds of change come?

RACES

The galaxy is host to many life-forms, all of which have their own view of humanity.

Humans - These are the descendants of those who escaped Earth's destruction. They are spread amongst the stars and have settlements throughout the galaxy. Some are merchants, some are star pirates, some serve in rag-tag planetary militia, but all are united in their will to see mankind's continued existence.
View Towards Humans: They are humans.
Distribution: They take up much of the lower quandrant of the Galactic Map.
Most Populous Planet: Yentarin 5, which they share with the...

Kuros - An enigmatic and serene race. Mammalian in nature, they exhibit an alien grace that often puts off other races. Covered in a silky, sable fur and standing an average of 6 feet tall, the humans have nick-named them "Kitties" in quiet homage to the common terrestrial pet, now quite endangered. They can show great compassion, and it was them that were the most open and warm to the bedraggled refugees when they came limping in a century ago. They are the most technologically advanced race, and they make the best diplomats.
View Towards Humans: Compassionate but slightly patronizing. They regard
them almost as poor strays, to be taken in and given warmth, food, and care.
Distribution: Theirs is the lower-to-eastern quadrant of the Galactic Map
Most Populous Planet: Kuron. To the Kuros, Yentarin 5 is a backwater outpost, partly why they let the humans get so populous there.

Iletine - Perhaps the most bizarre to the humans. Their descendants were cephalopods, and so they appear to be evolved, sentient squid. Humans derisively call them "Squiddies", but behind their backs, otherwise they wouldn't get a good deal on the part they're bartering for. Your average Ileti is a fearsome haggler, and many a puzzled human has been talked down to almost giving away what they're trading. A common phrase in bartering outposts is: "Never trust a Squiddy if you can't see all his tentacles."
View Towards Humans: Their money is as good as any other, but the phrase "There's a sucker born every minute" sums it up nicely.
Distribution: Very widespread. They can be found on just about every populated planet, satellite, and asteroid in the galaxy. However, their homeworld is found north of Kuros space but south of the Unknown Quadrant.
Most Populous Planet: Ilet, a planet almost entirely covered in water. However, most Iletine are spread throughout the stars in major trading planets.

Yisssth - A reptilian race rigidly separated into castes. At the bottom of the order there are the Ithss, the peons. They include laborers, slaves, beggars; they are the dregs of Yisssth society. The next level up are the Ath'Ithss, or "above-peons". These are the everyday citizens, the merchants, the bankers, the managers. The next level up is shared by two castes, the H'raathss and the Nessth. Those in the H'raathss caste are the warriors, and are noticeably stockier, stronger, and taller that other Yisssth. The Nessth caste harbors the mystics, shamans and priests of Yisssth society. They are generally smaller, paler, and weaker than the majority of the populace. The highest level are the Ath'Yisssth, the "above-Yisssth". They are an elite council, revered almost as gods by the populace, and they are chosen from the H'raathss and Nessth castes, which are favored differently in direct correlation to who sits in the Ath'Yisssth council. Humans often call them "Scalies".
View Towards Humans: They regard them as inferior interlopers, intruding on space that should rightfully belong to the Yisssth. They call the humans "Uss'Ithss", or "Below-peons", a word that could be better translated as "scum".
Distribution: The Yisssth have laid claim to the western quadrant on the Galactic Map.
Most Populous Planet: Hathss, which translates literally as "home".

The Forsaken - No one knows much about this mysterious and barbaric race. They travel the subspace rifts and strike randomly and without warning. Those they take in their lightning raids are tortured and eaten. It is unknown if they have any sort of agriculture, or even any permanent settlements at all, for that matter. It is speculated even that they live off of the "Black Harvest", as the raids are called. There is nary a sight so terrifying as their barbarous and jagged fleet descending into a planet's atmosphere, spewing a foul, black smoke from their engines. This race is so mysterious that no one is even sure what they look like, as they cover themselves in jagged metal plates of scrap, riveting them to their very flesh.
View Towards Humans: Food. Of course, they consider all races food.
Distribution: No one knows for sure. However, it is widely accepted as fact that should you venture into the northern quadrant, also called the Unknown Quadrant, it won't be long before you're on someone's plate.
Most Populous Planet: Unknown.

Here's what I'm looking for in a sign up:

Name: Fairly obvious. Consider what your race's mouth-parts look like, and what noises would be easy for them to make.
Race: Choose any of the above, with the exception of The Forsaken.
Gender: If you have questions on this one, the internet has a wealth of information on it, but be warned, a lot of it is NSFW.
Age: Since races age differently and planets rotate differently, specify instead what developmental cycle your character is in (i.e. Young, Middle-Aged, Old, or any in-between age.)
Position: What does your character do for a living? Could be that they're a merchant, maybe a pirate, maybe a diplomat, whatever.

Armaments: It's a sci-fi setting, so be creative, just don't god-mod. Blasters, gauss weapons, slugthrowers, railguns, whatever suits your fancy, but keep in mind that most races will use whatever technology their race most commonly uses.
Vehicle: Does your character own their own ship? If so, what does it look like?

Appearance: What does your character look like? What does he or she wear? The average heights for the alien races are as follows: Kuros - 6 feet, Ileti - 4 feet 8 inches, but much wider considering how they're essentially walking squid, Yisssth - the average Ath'Ithss is about 6 feet tall; H'raathss would be taller and Nessth would be smaller.
Personality: Consider what your race is like for this one. A Kuros could be languid, graceful, and diplomatic. An Ileti could be quick of wit, quick of toungue, and a shrewd bargainer. A Yisssth could be aloof, xenophobic, and fast to anger.
History: What's your character's background? What's their lineage, how did they get to their current position?

MY CHARACTER

Name: Hiss'th Thanoths Isthenss
Race: Yisssth
Gender: Male
Age: In-between young and middle-aged, more bordering on young.
Position: Hiss'th is a warrior of rank Krass'th in the H'raathss caste. The ranks are: Ghaath, similar to Private, Hith'enss, similar to Corporal, Giss'then, akin to Sergeant, Krass'th, corresponding to Lieutenant, Ikhss, similar to Captain, Makh'th, akin to Major, Hokh'anss, corresponding to Colonel, and, finally, Ath'H'raathss, "above-warrior", corresponding to General.

Armaments: The Yisssths' weapon technology of choice is the railgun. The concept behind it is simple, really. Two parallel magnetic rails launch a hyperaccelerated projectile at the enemy, scything through armor and hulls like a katana through rice paper. Hiss'th carries a rail-rifle with 55cm long rails with a relatively fast rate of fire. It doesn't jam, but it has a potential to overheat. Aside from his rifle, he carries a ceremonial (but very functional) spear which displays his rank as Krass'th. If all else fails, he can fight the enemy with tooth and claw.
Vehicle: Due to his rank, Hiss'th is in command of a Yuth'ssinthiss "Starscreamer" Warship; its name in the Yisssth Galactic Navy is the Graash os H'raa'thss, "The Claw of H'raa'thss", H'raa'thss being the war god of the Yisssth. The "Starscreamer" type is the smallest of the capital warships, but still sports a formidable arsenal. It has a crew of 12, with room for another 20 soldiers. In terms of firepower, it sports 2 1.5-meter "Deathbringer" railguns and 6 1-meter "Hellspitter" railguns. It has medium armor and medium speed.

Appearance: Hiss'th is large for his race, 7 feet tall at the shoulder, and is quite strong. His scales shine a deep, luxurious green, and his spinal crest is a striking cyan. His eyes are a sparkling yellow, but swiftly descend into the bloodiest of reds when the berserk battlelust comes over him. His scales are thick and provide a natural armor, but there are weapons in the galaxy that need more protection than that. Because of this, he wears the traditional ceremonial Kraas'th armor. It's made of a durable ceramic, painted in traditional war patterns, that protects his soft underbelly from bullets, weak blasters, and most melee weapons.
Personality: Hiss'th is rather more tolerant of the "Uss'Ithss" than his more xenophobic comrades, having been raised by a less judgemental brood-mother. He still regards the humans as inferior, but does not actually support their galactic purging. Other races he eyes with mistrust, viewing them as greedy or aloof, but the uneasy truce between them holds. He is quick to react to changes on the battlefield, part of why he was promoted so fast. He is a formidable opponent in combat, and his kills are many. He has yet to find a life-mate, and yearns for someone to share the cold and lonely nights in the swamp-home with.
History: Hiss'th was born in on the planet of Thanoths to brood-mother Isthenss, who was renowned for producing good warriors. Hiss'th was no exception, and enrolled in the Thanoths Military Academy at the tender age of 6 springs. He learned well, and was a Giss'then in no time. Several battles fighting off Forsaken raids later, he was a Krass'th in charge of his very own, shiny new Starscreamer. He has never let down his superiors and reveres the Ath'Yisssth council. However, he bears some resentment towards them, due to the fact that the H'raathss caste has recently fallen out of favor with the mostly Nessth council.

I look forward to seeing your sign-ups!

Guest Arisaco
Name: Captain Ari Shodaw
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: In his early 20's, but looks much older
Position: Captian of a ship of space-pirates

Armaments: Ari carries a large plasma hand-cannon strapped to his back, two blaster pistols on his belt, grenades in various pouches, and a short sword made of adamatine on his arm, more for show than anything.
Vehicle: Ari commands the pirate vessel, Shadow Wyrm, which is a medium sized craft. The main array of weapons is astounding, including three blaster cannons, six ion torpedo bays, each holding two torpedoes, and one "radio-disruptor", which is used to block transmissions to other ships in a 300 lightyear radius. The ship's appearance is battered and worn, but comfortably holds 200 occupants and 50 extra crewmembers.

Appearance: Ari is about 6'2" and weighs about 185 lbs. He has pure white hair and sharp blue eyes. Ari has long arms and legs, but has strong upper body muscle.
Personality: Ari's personality is one that seems complex, but is not. He can be blunt most of the time, yet he can worm his way out of almost everything, from gambling debts to getting off scot-free from the law. He is distrusting of almost every race, including humans. The only people he really trusts are his crew members.
History: Ari gained the title of "Captian" only because he stole the ship from his captian, Faust Yuiigh. His early childhood is one fraught with peril, having lived in an early human community. The dangers were constant, but he survived. His first really noticable expliots were smuggling runs from planet to planet. When he was finally old enough do so, he stole the ship he worked on and became a space pirate, living on the run from Faust and hoping not to run into him anytime soon.

Name: Karith "The Gorgon" Meekes
Race: Half Human, and Half Kuros. Hence his nickname, "The Gorgon", a name that refers to his eyes, which are capable of Kuros and Human sight.
Gender: Male
Age: His life cycle, being human, is a little longer than that of a Kuros. He is 26.
Position: Captain of the starship "Leviathan". He is a master of all trades, shifting from piracy to bounty hunting to general rapscallionism as it suits his fancy.

Armaments: A longsword (and by long, I mean LONG), a rapier, and numerous retractable blade weapons hidden in various places on his body.
Vehicle: He owns the starship "Leviathan", which houses a small and specialized crew who have adopted the name of the ship. The ship is a sleek and well-kept vehicle, with two blaster cannons, and the ever-important harpoon launchers, of which there are five. All weapons are controllable from the main deck, save for one. That one is vaguely referred to as "IT", and is the product of the Mechanic's "Research". (The Mechanic, the mechanic aboard the "Leviathan", is living proof that "what the hell," is always the right answer, or, at least, the one with the most destructive results.)

Appearance: He is a tall (being around 6 feet, 7 inches tall), and rather slender man. He has mid-length grey hair, cat ears and a tail. However, these are the only truly obvious marks of the Kuros on him. He wears retro-ized pirate captain wear (I'll post a picture sometime. I just drew it.)
Personality: He is calm, reserved, and capable. His attitude towards others is one of reassured confidence, and his grace with using words can reach any level of society. A brilliant strategist, and a glorious leader.
History: To understand Karith, it is imperative that one should understand his lineage. His father was a noble in Kuros society, having descended from a long line of noble blood that eventually trickled down from a Kuros Demmroar (The equivalent of an Emperor, with a sort of divine heritage as an implication). The Demmroar no longer are revered, having been overtaken by a democratic society.
His mother, however, was a warrior with no particular lineage to speak of. She was the daughter of a rape victim, who, after her birth, put her up for adoption.
The two met on the battlefield, during the Battle for Kimras Ti'Ie. They were two of ten survivors of a Forsaken onslaught, who fell in love after seeing each other's prowess on the field. It was ill-fated that the interracial laws did not allow for such behaviours, and they had to have the child in secret. Such is Kimras' life. A life of going from hole to hole for shelter, but shown kindness by a Kuros pirate, known as the great "Red Mane". After working for three years on the "Red Mane"'s ship, he was told to buy a ship, and given the money by "Red Mane" himself.
He then met his crew in assorted places across the galaxy. His first mate, the impregnable Jeff Muster, is an expert marksman, and also a bit of a gun nut.

Great sign-ups, everyone! Ilium, I know how it goes with time restrictions. Looks good so far, just finish it up as soon as you can. Oh, and there are other races aside from human, everyone.

If you couldn't tell by now, this thread is largely influenced by the show Firefly and the movie Serenity. The movie's great, I recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi, humor, and things that are epic.

I might start an Underground thread, where you can ask about race technologies and such. If there's a demand, I'll do it. For now, just keep those sign-ups coming!

Name: Lynx Melanis

Race: Kuros

Gender: Male

Age: Middle Aged

Position: Diplomat of the Kuros military.

Armaments: Due to his position, Lynx rarely finds himself in a situation requiring him to use weapons. However, he always keeps a small repeating blaster with him at all times, aswell as the ceremonial longsword which is hilted to his belt. Lynx also has a robotic right arm, which carries a number of hidden tools and weapons to be used in emergancy situations. As a soldier, Lynx was trained in a wide variety of assault and melee weaponry.

Vehicle: In his duties, Lynz travels aboard the Kuronius V, an imperial transport vessel named after the capital city of Kuron. The Kuronius V has the speed of Kurosian war ship, but the design is sleek, with no visible weaponry. However, it is armed with enough firepower to fend off small attacks, aswell as the top of the line in Kurosian shields, and a cloaking device used to avoid unwanted conflict. While he does not commande the ship, his high rank does give him quite a bit of pull aboard the ship.

Appearance: Lynx stands a strong 6 foot 5 inches, and has the build of a soldier. His black fur is well groomed, keeping with appearance standards. However, small streaks of grey above his ears show his age. His eyes are sharp and green. Lynx's right arm is robotic from the elbow down through the hand. It is identical to Lynx's real arm in shape and size, but is made of a smooth chrome-like metal. As a diplomat and ex-miliatry man, Lynx dresses in traditional officers garb, drapped in fine Kurosian silks and robes.

Personality: Lynx was born into a relatively poor family on Yentarin 5, though was still well above most human families. He joined the military with the hope that it would improve his lot in life. After nearly two decades in the force, Lynx had risen to the rank of field commander, and had gained an increble reputation, having never once lost an encounter with enemy forces.

His military career was brought to an end when he lost his arm in combat. During the investigation of a Kuros distress signal on the outskirts of the unknown quadrent, his force encountered a squadran of The Foresaken. The battle quickly went sour for Lynx as he lost his arm to an enemy rail gun. For the first time he was forced to retreat from battle.

After the encounter, Lynx was deemed unfit to command in the field by the Kuros military council. However, with his mostly spotless reputation and vast experiance, having travelled to hundreds of different planets, Lynx was promoted to act as a diplomat, focused on the military affairs of of the Kuros around the Yentarin system.
