Guest Warmaster Posted October 17, 2005 Share Posted October 17, 2005 I keep scrolling up trying to see the rest of the dude at the top of the page. It's really bothersome -_- I know it's Cloud from Advent Children (or a total ripoff), but it really annoys me that the header is "supposed" to look cut-off like that. It's gotta be something other people have mentioned... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Kei Posted October 17, 2005 Share Posted October 17, 2005 That header was made a long time before Advent Children came out; it's one of James' (the site director) original designs, if I'm not mistaken. It's supposed to look that way, heh. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
DeadSeraphim Posted October 17, 2005 Share Posted October 17, 2005 No.... it's adult Naruto, apparently. Baron Samedi Posted October 17, 2005 Share Posted October 17, 2005 To be brutally honest Warmaster, I never even noticed until you said something. You'll get over it. Besides, I think it probably looks better that way. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Warmaster Posted October 18, 2005 Share Posted October 18, 2005 Adult Naruto XD it looks totally like AC's Cloud Anyway, it's not critical that it's changed. I just wanted to mention that it's annoying. Although, looking at it closer, it may be not that the pic is cut off, but rather that there is no border at the top, so it really does look like the page isn't quite scrolled all the way up. Kei Posted October 18, 2005 Share Posted October 18, 2005 Réne: Hn... Yondaime, maybe or a doujin version of Naruto like Dagger said in the other thread, but I'm leaning toward Yondaime, lol. He and Naruto would have a lot in common if Naruto were older. Wavemaster: Well, borders aren't really necessary for every little image. Personally, I think it gives it an overall nice flow with the swoosh thingy. But it all really comes down to personal preference, really. You always have the option of using the Geisha skin, which you can access via your Control Panel. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
James Posted October 18, 2005 Share Posted October 18, 2005 The problem is that there's a white gap between the top of the site and the browser window. I have already asked Justin to address this, so I assume he'll attend to that when he is free. As for the actual design...well, I can't really comment on that. Some people will like it and some won't. ^_^ Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Warmaster Posted October 18, 2005 Share Posted October 18, 2005 Acrually James, there is no gap there at all, at least not in my Firefox. For me, it really is that there are right, left, and bottom borders but no top border. Also, I like the drawing (of Cloud ~_^). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Petie Posted October 18, 2005 Share Posted October 18, 2005 I'm using IE (PC) right now and there is (and never has been) a white margin at the top of the page. I'm not sure there is anything to be taken care of in that respect. And as for the design, I like it but as James said, some will and some won't. That's really all there is to it. Edit: Hehe, I originally said Justin instead of James. I was in school at the time and was actually talking to someone named Justin, which was probably the cause ^_^ Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

SunfallE Posted October 19, 2005 Share Posted October 19, 2005 I wouldn't call it a gap, but for me it is a space about 1 pixel wide that is white instead of black like the rest of the border. That applies to the left side just above where it says Welcome: username as well. Though truthfully until I saw this thread I didn't think anything of it. It doesn't bother me and I don't find it distracting. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

And even knowing that it is there I am not bothered by it, so I don't see any need to fix it. Or even if it actually needs to be fixed. Personally I think it's fine the way it is. Desbreko Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 I guess I've been exposed to James' funky style long enough that it seems normal to me. I used to think the same thing, that it looked odd without a top border, but now it would probably look odd to me if it did have one. And yeah, for me the site doesn't have any margin between the top of the page and the banner when I view the site in Firefox. But it does when I view it in IE. I'd guess there's something about the site's CSS that IE isn't liking. I know the default margin between the edge of a page and its content is different between Firefox and IE, so it might be something to do with that. Edit: After tweaking a local copy of the main page for a couple hours now, I finally found the cause of the one pixel space in IE. It's the hit counter JavaScript function, the last thing in the head section of the page, that does it. If I take that out, no more white space in IE.

At the moment, however, I have no idea how to go about fixing it so that it doesn't make the space appear. It's in the head of the page, so I'd think it shouldn't appear in the body at all when you view the page. ... But if I can find a way to fix it (or maybe someone else knows how?), it should be pretty easy for me to edit the page template with the updated code. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Baron Samedi Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 I think I know what you mean Des - I've had an issue whilst using JS scripts in the header. Perhaps if you tag it at the end of the body code? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Petie Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 I don't think this is a problem that can be solved by editing the template HTML of the site. I took a look at the script that's being called by the counter and I think I may see the problem.
ref=document.referrer;sw="none"; sd="none";sw=screen.width;sc=screen.colorDepth; qs = "&ref="+escape(ref)+"&sw="+escape(sw)+"&sc="+escape(sc); document.write('');
The problem there is the document.write(''). When it's called from the head of the document, it writes directly to the top of the page. Seeing as it's not writing anything, that statement is probably the cause of the white space. It is an odd problem though because if it was writing anything from the head, it ends up replacing all of the content on the page so the one-pixel line of white space isn't making much sense. I'm at school right now and I'm not seeing it on any of the Mac browsers. And as mentioned before, it doesn't show up in Firefox for the PC. It doesn't really bother me but if you feel like trying to fix it, that's most likely your problem. I don't really know if you could do much with it though seeing as that isn't OtakuBoards code. Aaryanna Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 So did someone fix it? I've seen it before, but today it's gone. There's isn't a space about 1 pixel wide that is white anymore. I use IE on a PC. Anyway, it never bothered me before, It doesn't really look all that different with it gone. It still looks nice either way. ^_^ Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Desbreko Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 It looks like either James or Justin just removed the code that calls the counter script. So yeah, it has been fixed -- or at least the problematic bit has been removed, if not gotten fixed itself. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Petie Posted October 25, 2005 Share Posted October 25, 2005 This seems like the most appropriate thread to post this in seeing as the original discussion was about the header image. I just noticed a second ago that the image has been changed. Personally, I didn't mind the other one but this new picture is really nice. James Posted October 25, 2005 Share Posted October 25, 2005 Yeah, as I always say, a few things still need to be changed...but I thought I'd take the opportunity to fix things that I've been frustrated with. The previous header image wasn't quite right - the new one is just a little more balanced I think. I've also edited the category imagery and collapse icons. But as always, more still needs to be done. Whenever I have a free moment I tend to come back and redo various images to keep the site looking correct. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Baron Samedi Posted October 28, 2005 Share Posted October 28, 2005 I actually preferred the old header, though this one is pretty good too. The other one's tones just seemed to match the site better, I felt. Oh well, no worries. Except for the fact that the drop-down buttons have a lighter grey square around them. In some places they blend in [become transparent] properly, but in others they don't. Notably, Quick Reply and Similar Threads. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
