Hmm...well...
I guess everone has there own opinion.
Some don't like the idea of watching
"Japanese Cartoons"

And others have had a bad first impression
of it and don't want to revert back for some
reason
:animeswea This is a dum question but i just can't get it. Anime is so cute how can you not like it and has so much action you shouldn't be able to leave your seat in fear of missing a sec.

i know threre some anime that are just plain bad but come on thee has to be an anime for every one. ain't there? :animeknow

:animesigh
Now this is just my opinion but I think it is because people see anime and think it is a kid's show. And who can blame them I mean when you see things like Yu gi oh, pokemon, DBZ and bey blade (don't think that I am hating) it just gets edited and aimed commercially to kids. So in an attempt to be grown up people denounce anime and condemn it to children.
As for parents disapproving of anime, it has to be something about the generation before us. Perhaps some thirty years ago, anime wasn't as known in the West was in the East. Disney and Warner Brothers still dominated the animation genre and catered to the 12-and-below audience. Your parents were raised with these cartoons, yeah? When they grow older, that 12-and-below preference sticks and watching anime will seem childish (so they don't watch it).[/SIZE']
The artists at the classic WB studio in the '40s and '50s had a target audience of themselves, meaning that demographic-wise the Looney Tunes would be intended for 20-and-30-somethings. However, they were censored heavily (YGO-style fingers and everything) when they aired on Saturday mornings 30 years ago, so people from 30 years ago were simply only exposed to hackjobs of "dominant" cartoons that were made 30 years before their time.
I think in life some people have stereotypes. You know- just because one anime fan is totally obsessed and freaky, they assume all of us are. Plus the fact that most people think anime is like kiddy cartoons. My mother thinks I am too old to be watching "Japanese cartoons". I think sometimes that people may be watching some of the dark animes and/or start watching an anime inthe middle of the series. They don't understand it and therefore hate it.
Bingo. A large portion of this is stereoptypes. Anime fans can be..let's say very overzealous at times.A large portion of non anime fans just make poor assenments, and as kuroinuyoukai said, some non anime fans assume all anime fans are like that. True, there are alot like that out there, but then there's us. We don't go around screaming and trying to shove anime down people's throats. That just makes them hate anime even more. This might be a terrible comparisn, but to me anime is almost like religion. Going around screaming about your religion pushing it on people won't work. The same goes for anime. I'm not saying don't introduce them to it, yeah say alittle bit about anime, but don't force feed it to them. That's just my 2 cents.

I think there are a lot of peole who don't like anime because they don't understand it. All they see is a caroon and that seems to upset them. I don't get it personally, but my dad is one of those people who just hates anime. I don't understand why, but maybe it's because some times anime is so bizzar that the casual observer can't understand. I believe if you want to enjoy anime, you have to be dedicated otherwise you'll never understand it. That also means you'll never like it.

The reason i think ppl dnt like anime is because they just dnt understand it. Half the ppl I know watch anime ,half the ppl dnt. I used to be obsessed with it. Now I think it's a big waste of time for me. But I still watch it. It is exiting to watch, but if you watch too much of it. It gets tiring. I'm not saying its bad or anything so dnt get mad *sorry* :animedepr But hey I got a lot of ppl into manga. I think manga is way better than anime (no offence)*sorry again* :animedepr
some people are not used to their style and it just doesn't appeal to them. If you were to ask a japanese guy "Why do you not like simpsons" im sure he'll say the same thing
From what I've heard The Simpsons is quite popular in Japan. So is The Powerpuff Girls, X-Men: Evolution, Tom and Jerry, and South Park. I wonder if this is because these shows are aired on, you know, non-cable and non-satelite networks that everyone gets in primetime timeslots. ;)

*knows that Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex would be so much bigger if it was shown in primetime on network TV next to some other cop show*

I think some people don't like anime because they see it a childish thing that should be left for kinds and only kids to watch it, at least that is what my nonbeliever older brother tells me. As for my younger brother who is only a year from me, he tells me that some anime are worth watching and some are not and that most people only see anime as pokemon and Dragon Ball Z, its part of the media putting anime as a kids only activity.

There are just some people who don't want to accept the impact of anime, and the impact that it has on other people. I know a guy that is totally obsessed with star wars (like has a ton of "action figures" and all that crap) but says anime is just a sick obsession. Usually it is people who love other things a little to much and see anime as "competition" for that love. Some see it as jsut cartoons and not as one way of telling a story.

Others...others are just ignorant and if it wasn't anime it would just be something else

Some people just don't like it. They don't like the story, or the animation itself, or as your girlfriend pointed out, the girls who are so over the top. Maybe you can show her Inuyasha or Gundam Wing. Good luck trying to change her mind.

Some people just have their own
opinions on anime....and unfortunately
sometimes you can't change them for the
better. You could just try and show
them some of your favorite animes and
see if they end up likeing it. But others have
no hope.
Perhaps because there IS no difference? ;)
Now, that's just cruel. It's like telling a little kid that the Tooth Fairy is really his dad. :animesmil

Anyway, Nosferatu, if you're looking to enlighten someone (or whatever) it's probably more productive to emphasize that animation as a medium doesn't have to be just kiddie fare or adult comedies. The only thing that really distinguishes anime from animation produced by any other country is its nation of origin. Heck, the Japanese don't even bother to use a different term for Western animation. But for our purposes, it's easier to draw that distinction.

Well, interesting but how could someone not like anime? It's pointless...
Japanese cartoons (anime) is great! The most best ever cartoons, I wouldn't know who would refuse to watch them, even though it dosen't sound delightful, still they could figure out the genre. Since I got my friend to watch Spirited Away, she didn't seem too bothered about it, I thought, 'What's the point in watching other cartoons than anime all the time'? Think of it, that's how BORING life could be.

The first anime I saw was Dragonball Z, I think, or I can't think of anything else I saw before, that was 8-10, 11-13 I watched Pokemon, I still do a little bit at the age of 15, I really like watching movies created by Hayao Miyazaki.
They are interesting.

Anime is not a legend but many genres come out of it, like the example given, 'Action & Cute'.
Dragonball Z is mostly fighting (action).
-Princess mononoke
-Spirited Away
-Kiki's Delivery Service
-My Neighbour Totoro
And many more from Hayao Miyazaki's are more fantasy (cute) and most of them are action aswell as cute, fantasy... :animeswea

But there are loads of theorys people have gotten wrong, there are many anime genres, cartoons, you don't have to like them all but enjoy most of them while you can, than sticking to other cartoons which are not anime.
Anime is the most detailed and reliable cartoons ever made, all the fantasy and action there would be when you watch most anime...
Even though you heard rumours that anime isn't good, that's other people's opinions, not yours! Keep that in mind!
