Sandy
Okay, I reckon many of you know the Finnish "opera metal"-band Nightwish? They have toured all over Europe, USA and Asia, so I think you do. Well, today an open letter was published on the official website www.nightwish.com addressed to the female vocalist Tarja Turunen by the four male players of the band. They said they were extremely disappointed to her behaviour, how she had ridiculed the band, saying she could leave it at any moment she wanted; how she didn't respect the fans at all - an example was how she nearly canceled a fully booked concert in Norway because she wanted to go Christmas shopping; how she wasn't interested in the band affairs anymore, and she only aimed for fame and fortune. They said she wasn't the woman they knew when the band started anymore. Thus, the four band players - in the public letter - fired her! They said they were starting to look for a new female vocalist soon. Even though I'm not a big fan of Nightwish, I'm quite shocked about how the rest of the band executed the booting - I mean, in a public letter?! But I also feel that they had every right to do so, if Tarja Turunen really has started to behave like they claimed. Obviously fame had got into her head, and that is a very dangerous thing - to lose your sense of reality and humbleness towards others. Nevertheless, Tarja Turunen has such an amazing voice, I think this turn of events is extremely sad... :(
Jakehammaren
WHAT? No! This can't be! Nightwish is one of my favorite bands ever! What the hell? I'm going to have to see this letter for myself. That's really sad. I just hope the rest of the band stays together! As long as they find another vocalist it should be alright. I hope this isn't the end of Nightwish. I think I'd cry.
Sandy
It's true (unfortunately?); Tarja Turunen has been kicked out of Nightwish. But the band will continue onwards, and I don't really think that having a new female vocalist will change the style of their music, as the songwriter is still in the band. I guess these sort of things happen in the music world all the time - people leave, others replace them, names change etc. Nothing is unchanging. Still, it seemed to me like Tarja was the voice of the band (well, aside from Mr. Look-At-How-Much-Of-A-Sex-Symbol-I-Am Tuomas) and with her now gone, Nightwish will never be the same, like it or not. That's just depressing though. And appaling! Blowing off a full concert for Christmas shopping? That's something I would expect out of Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears, but Tarja? :animesigh
Jakehammaren
No, it gets worse. The main reason was to meet her friends at the movies, not even Christmas shopping! I think they could kick more *** without her. She doesn't even like Metal.
IceRose
So you are telling me that my favorite band in the world just dismantelled like that!!!!!!!!! I can't imagine it. I mean I know the band were on rocky situations from the beginnings because Thuomas said they were going to break the band after the first cd went out but this is nonsense, Tarja would never do that!, I'm upset right now, how could this happenned? :animecry:

Rumors tell that they've already found a replacement, but nothing official hasn't been announced. I'm sure the music will be just as good with a different vpcalist, or perhaps even better now that the reason of disputes have been erased. ;)
Goodbye, Face
It'd be interesting to see what awesome music they make without her holding them down. Let's look at Norma Jean and Underoath for a second. They both were very popular with their old singers and also very good. They both lost and replaced their vocalists, is the music any worse? Sure, it's different, but they didn't become horrible bands. I'm pretty sure they became more successful after the change and appealed to a greater range of people. Sure, some of their fans became alienated, but that happens from cd to cd as well. Look at Boys Night Out for that. Anyways, I can't wait for their new cd. I hope they live up to what I just said.
NinjaJedi007
That sucks to hear that. Hopefully nothing bad happens to Nightwish now. It's going to be a little werid with her gone though.
Lafleur
I may not have ever heard Nightwish, but if its anything like I think it is, I'm probably not a fan of it. Nontheless, I symphasize with Nightwish fans. If Nightwish is a quality band they wont have trouble attracting a new singer, hopefully more suited for the limelight. Hey, lots of bands have survived, or even gotten better, without thier lead singer. The band Genesis was virtually unknown until Peter Gabriel left, and than they became a supergroup. AC/DC survived, as well. Usually when a band loses and member, it shakes things up and somtimes a better band is the product.
AnimeFront
I liked her vocals, but she was being a pain in the *** so later fo her.
Kaze
It's disappointing to find this out. I really liked her vocals; she's pretty much why I like Nightwish. I hope the new vocalist they get does well though. But hey, if everything goes downhill from here steadily, until they're all poor and going through drug rehab; they'll be perfect for Behind the Music. That'll be pretty sweet.
Ailes de Velour
When I first read the letter, I couldn't get my jaw off the ground. How sad, and what a slap in the face to make it public like that! Like I said on the Nightwish board, I don't think I'll listen to the new stuff they come out with. Tarja was the best vocalist I have ever heard in my life, and it just won't be the same without her. It's not just how well she sings, it's her distinct voice. Tuomas is contradicting himself, but I'm still behind him (and Tarja, because I can't pick sides like that. I lubb' all of them) because he said the fans were most important. However, firing Tarja is DEFINITELY not pleasing for a lot of fans. But he also has to please himself and the band, which I believe is more important than trying to make fans happy. This even coming from a raving Tarja-Tuomas-Nightwish-fan, who included them in her mega-satire! I had to make them Japanese after this news though, which sucks. Now everyone is Japanese (there used to be ten Japanese characters, five from America [AFI and Marguerite Moreau] and five from Finland [Nightwish]). But anyway. I'll just stick with Tarja-Nightwish, because it's what I know and love and I'm fine with it. Besides, I don't like Once as much as Century Child, it was losing the Nightwish essence. We can only wish them the best in their whatever-endeavors.

I know you're a huge fan of Nightwish, and they're still Nightwish without Tarja. She was definately the least important part of the band, and there's better vocalists out there. And just because firing Tarja is disappointing to some fans doesn't mean Thuomas is contradicting himself. He definately has the fans in mind (they didn't come to the US because of her. Firing her is definately integral to making US fans happy - they can come here now!). I can't wait to get my hands on some new Nightwish material! I think that with a more passionate vocalist (Tarja doesn't even like metal, and never showed up to practices) they'll go much farther as a band. I think this could definately be a step up for Nightwish. And for the sake of being argumentative, Once blew Century Child out of the water! I thought Century Child was their weakest album. Solo Tremaine
Personally, when I listened to their 'Best of' album in MVC, I wasn't very impressed by the vocals. A lot of people who share music tastes with me have said how good they are, and I was a little disappointed with what I'd heard there. Maybe a new lead vocalist will rekindle my interest in having another go, heh. I think that's quite a nice way to fire someone, if you're going to do it in such a high-profile situation.
Ailes de Velour
Hm, I think I meant to say that I'd try out the new stuff to see if I like it. I think I posted that on the Nightwish board. I don't remember, but I just reread my post. =X Once was a more costly album than Century Child; they hired a background choir and the London Symphony Orchestra, which gave it musical superiority to the other albums but I felt it didn't have the same Nightwish feel to it's sound. Tuomas still wrote the songs and played the leyboard, Marco still played Bass, Jukka still drummed, Emppu still played guitar, and Tarja still sang, but it's different. It was the first album I heard, too, which is odd for me to say that it wasn't as Nightwishy as their past albums. I still like it, just not as much as Century Child. Now I know how AFI fans feel when they say the old stuff is better (though I love Black Sails through Sing the Sorrow equally, but that's another story, nevermind, anyway...) This just SUCKS. Oh, I wrote a song about it. I don't know if it's appropriate to post it here, though, so maybe I'll type it up for Anthology.
