DarkDragon
My suggestion is to have a place where new people can go and introduce themselves, since they keep doing it anyway and have to get a warning. I know my opinion does not count too much but I think this might help out a lot.
Doukeshi
Of course your opinion counts, everyone's counts whether they're a newbie or as old as the halls themselves ^_~. This idea has been brought up again and again, and I'm sorry to say, you're probably going to get the same answer as everyone else. However I could be wrong, so we'll just wait and see huh ^_~?
Petie
I don't really think that we need to compromise with something like this. If we have an introduction forum, we'll then get people who say that we need a "testing forum" and that it wouldn't hurt because it'd give people a place to put their spam. Basically, it's no big challenge for Moderators to remove intro threads. It takes a second to kill each one off. I hire Moderators for that specific purpose - to moderate. What else would they be doing, really? If they aren't moderating...then they aren't Moderators. lol I am usually willing to offer a compromise in certain areas, but I don't think it's necessary to have an intro forum. Having one would probably be detrimental. I mean, think about it - that's the first place new members visit. If all they see is crap, they will think that posting crap all over the site is acceptable. You know? I'd rather that the first thing they see is clear, coherent posts site-wide. That gives an infinitely better impression. And it lets them know what they're in for, so that they can choose whether or not they'd like to stay.
That should sufficiently remove any confusion as to whether or not there will be an introduction forum created. The original thread where this was posted can be found here.

Sandy
Actually, once upon a time there was a section called "Newbie Lounge" at these boards, but due to unfortunately immense amount of spamming it contained, it was brought down, and everybody has lived happily ever since. And when you say it like that I guess we are better off not having one :animesigh Oh, well. Thank you Sage
Gavin
Interesting, most interesting.
Actually, once upon a time there was a section called "Newbie Lounge" at these boards, but due to unfortunately immense amount of spamming it contained, it was brought down, and everybody has lived happily ever since.
I think the main reason that the Newbie Lounge became such a spam hole was because many newbies didn't realise that theirs would be the only content to the forum and it would be judged by their content. Otakuboards itself is the best run site in terms of post quality that I have come across on the internet, which is why so many new members find themselves at odds over their post quality. The NL being composed entirely of newbie posts was going to be a haven for very low post quality.
Doukeshi
Maybe it could be made so you are limited to only a certain number of posts in the newbie lounge over the course of say a month. That means newbies would have to go out into the wide OB world. P.S If it is even possible to do so

I think that's a pretty good idea. But I don't know if it's possible to do it and keep track of everyone. BurnerMan
Hey, we do this on ZeldaUniverse Forums. It's something good to do so everyone can get to know you better.

Kei
Hey, we do this on ZeldaUniverse Forums. It's something good to do so everyone can get to know you better.
The problem is that most (though not all) new members will say something along the lines of the following: "liek zomg, Im new1! I liek inuyasha he r tehh coolies!1 :animesmil k bye :catgirl:" As I said before, there are members who start out beautifully and have no problem fitting in to the community, but there are those who simply post things like that in various sections of the forums. Having a forum dedicated to things like that (as Newbie Lounge became, though it wasn't orginally intentioned to) would only encourage the behaviour, methinks. We really don't need that sort of thing again, heh.
