If you look closely you will see that all the avatars are 150 x 80 or smaller. Just right click on anyone?s avatar and then choose properties and you will see that the dimensions are all 150 x 80 or smaller.

If the avatar you want to use is too big then you can either use software like adobe to make it smaller or you can go to the art request lounge and post the picture there as many members would be willing to help you by making an avatar out of the picture that fits the guidelines.

The other problem might be memory. You may be trying to insert avatars that take up too much space (not just dimensions). This is especially a problem with animated images.

I recommend taking a look at our size and memory requirements and then finding an avatar that fits within that. Or you can use an avatar from our internal library, if you like. Hope you get it working. ^_^

Thank you James I forgot to mention the file size. Check your avatars to make sure they are 58.6KB or smaller. If they fit the 150 x 80 guidelines then that's probably the problem right there. If it?s an animated gif, well I don?t know how to make those smaller, but if it?s a regular picture I can resave it at a lower resolution so it would fit.

There are two ways you can do it.

You can go to Edit Avatar on the left nav menu and select from our existing library. Just use the pull-down menu to take a look at the categories we have.

Alternatively, you can go into the Art Studio forum and use the request sub-forum to ask for someone to make an individual avatar for you. Hope that helps.

Interesting, most interesting.

More than likely it sounds like a size issue rather than a dimensions one, given that I personally find OtakuBoards avatar dimensions and size limits to be very generous without going into overkill. Many of the other forums I am a semi-regular member of have very few, if any restrictions on images in signatures or avatar sizes which is a nightmare for anyone still working off a slow internet connection. Animated avatars would seem to cause the greatest amount of trouble given that they take up phenomenal size requirements, I suggest you just use an edited single frame image.

Maybe that's because all the images are larger than 150x80 pixels? I'd look into it ;-)

The next time I update the avatar library (whenever that happens to be) I'll most likely be making some Chobits avatars and adding them. But until then, yeah, make sure the images are a max of 150x80 pixels and 58.6 KB when you try to use them as a custom avatar.
