kayutori_sama
Otaku Boards has alot of members ( old and new) and I was just wondering why you choose to join OB? For me it's the conversation. OB has pretty strict rules on posting and I really appreciate that. I can't tell you how many boards I've been to where this is a typical post. "OMG i luuuuv inuyAsha!!!hes sooooo hot!!!!! and kikyo SUXXXXX. inuyasha and kagome4ever!!!!!" lololololol xD :animesigh ( sad isn't it?) I've been to alot of forums and OB is one of my favorites. Overwhelming majority of the members are very well versed on anime and manga , so having an intelligent discussion on OB isn't hard at all. All the sections of OB are awesome too. You can talk about almost anything under the sun. That is why I kayutori_sama joined Otaku Boards.
Sandy
Oh well, there's been many threads like this in the past, but not for a long time, so let's reply. I first joined OtakuBoards in version 3 (or was it 4... gah, can't remember!), when this place still had separate anime sections. My interest in those days was none other than Digimon, and the OB'ers who posted in that section became quite a close-knitted group. Well, when Digimon ended (in USA), so did the popularity of the section. The former Digipeeps began to spread to the other sections more - I personally lodged at the Final Fantasy section. But quite soon after that, the boards got renovated and all those smaller forums got shut down (you can still see them at the Archives), and all anime and all games were heaped into two big entities (Anime Lounge and Play It, respectively). Anyhow, here I still am, in the place I call my online home. :D I don't know, I don't think there's a way to return to the days of the past (or a real need, either), but it's warming to think back and remember what this place was like... I've been around for 3,5 years, and to me it seems like forever. ;) Oh, and today is quite special day in my personal OB history, for it is the first time I've ever changed my screenname. Just yesterday I was still Sage, but now I'm what it says at the top of my post. Go new me! :D
Stark
I've been through a whole string of forums, and the OB happens to be one of the best I've found so far. About this time last year (2 years ago? It's all a blur...) I was hanging around at GaiaOnline--it was my first forum. But things there quickly devolved into maddness for me. The community was far too big and far too hyper, and there was a lack of decent conversation that I so crave. I mean, it's sad when you have a bunch of 12 year olds posting about the kiddy anime. Don't they know there's a world outside their house? After this I went to a few different forums that were geared toward one specific anime, like the Swords & Sunflowers forum for Samurai Champloo. It was there I discovered that 40 some year old anime fans make for interesting things... But I was out of the loop. They had all seen Samurai Champloo a couple of times over, and they were over-analyzing every episode as it came on to AS. I couldn't keep up. Then a friend mentioned the OB to me, so I lurked for a couple of days and discovered that I liked it. I'm comfy here, and not too afraid of making a fool of myself to post. Various different anime are discussed here, there's an excellent (and literate!) RP section, the posts are of good quality for the most part, and the people are friendly. What more can you want in a forum?
r2vq
Just yesterday I was still Sage, but now I'm what it says at the top of my post. Go new me! :D
haha. I was wondering why "this person has the same avatar as Sage". I joined this forum because it had a nice portion of Peace Maker Kurogane fans that actually held up a conversation. I stay at this forum mainly because of the moderators and regulations that have to be adhered to. There aren't many pointless posts. At the moment I am enjoying the OtakuBoards Graphics Tournament. It's a nice way to waste my precious homework time. -ArV
Guest kuroinuyoukai
I joined OB because I like to talk about anime and other stuff. i am stuck in college and my roommate thinks anime is stupid,so I can't talk to her. I saw that members were friendly and intelligent. You are allowed to have your own opinion and occasionally someone will argue and argue with you. I enjoy talking to other fans and hearing their opinions even if I don't agree with some. OB is cool. Unfortunately, I read more on OB than I study! This was my first message board I think. If it wasn't then I just don't remember the rest because it was too long ago. I joined other boards after this but quit when I saw how bad they were at keeping a decent conversation. I wasn't that good a poster when I came here but I was still much better than them. Anyway, no reason. I saw a board and joined it. It seemed interesting and I could talk about anime as soon as I became interested in it. I like to hear what a lot of people have to say and I also love to laugh at just about anything. There's a good blend of that here. Whether people mean it or not. But most importantly there are no "I HATE GAYZ PEPLE!!1! threads here. That was like so friggin annoying.
Manic Webb
My friend is/was a member. Some of you might remember RicoTranzriq; he was a mod back in the days when there were half a dozen different videogame forums. I found out he was a member, and I trust his taste in message boards. I joined back in June 2002 (good lord, I've been here forever), and I've been chatting it up here ever since.

There was another forum that I got my scanlations from and after seeing there posts I basicly said to myself. "I must be above this to actually go here.." and so I didn't join it at all. The whole reason I came here in the first place seeing as how I am a rather new person at this forum is the anime lounge. I remember that I didn't even get what was the purpose of the other places since otakuboards is part of the otaku and all so I mosty posted there only. Then I eventually branched myself out to look at all of the other new things that the otakuboards offer us.
Goodbye, Face
My friend, Zidane 11, went here many years ago. Apparently, he was one of the first members and was on OB v1. I joined when OB v2 just became v3. It was white and purple. This place is my first message boards, and it's one of my only ones. I too have visited Go-Gaia, it lost its appeal to me very fast. Everyone wanted money so they could accessorize their little two-inch avatar. Stupid. I just can't imagine myself anywhere but here. I really can't stand people who can't type coherent sentences, let alone have a point to make. This is the only message board I've seen that allows for that. Yeah, I'll post some highlights... Kei
I personally joined way back when the boards first opened up, methinks (I've been thinking about this for a while, and I can remember when either Adam or James said that there'd be a message board going up). Being the fan of theOtaku I was, I joined up. I was a horrible, horrible little n00b back then (hard to believe, heh). But I've seen things come and go and OB evolve into what it is now; one of the best BB communities on the 'net. We may have our tiffs and snags here and there, but it's still good, heh.

Hevn
Unfortunately, I read more on OB than I study!
Bad! Though, I used to do that a lot too when I was a newbie. :animeswea But, I don't have a lot of school works back then so just try to balance life and OB. Anyway, I joined last year but I was a lurker for a long time before that. I've been searching about anime on Google and kept clicking links to this board. Queen Asuka
I joined the OB back on 11-11-01, which is like, FOUR YEARS FROM NOW next week or so! Holy crap, I didn't realize it had been so long. I joined because my friend Anna (if you guys remember her) was pretty active here, and I was a nut for anime. I made a bajillion friends, lots that I'm still close to, and most that don't visit here anymore at all. I was a moderator of General Anime/Anime Lounge at one point, but I retired from that when I realized that anime was becoming more popular and my life was getting busier and I knew that someone else deserved to be taking care of that part of the forums. I am one of Adam's Angels, the other two being BabyGirl and Lady Macaiodh. I am the infamous Queen of Plushies. And yeah. I miss the old OB days.

2010DigitalBoy
I joined 2 years ago (well... 2 years and 3 months, you get the point... I was different then) because I ws looking for a good anime board. This was, I think, my second choice, and I was drawn in by the RPGs and all those flash videos that D_W did. I remember back when I would never leave this place... but now I don't come here as much because it's 100% less active. Used to be if I left for 2 days the place would be brimming with new posts but ever since version 7 started its been way less active...
Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. To make a short story long, as is a special trait of mine, I joined Otakuboards probably a week or so after the unveiling of Version 3 under a username which is now buried somewhere in the grey matter I like to pretend in a fully-functioning brain. I believe it was either late September or early October 2001 when I joined the first time, given that I'm sure I held a username with a number between 1000 and 1100, I posted maybe seven or eight times under that username before abandoning it when I grew to dislike the name. Next a joined as Shadowed Demise in November and made some more posts before abandoning it two and rejoining, as this was the time before username changes were introduced. Finally on December 12th 2001 I joined under the name Red XIII after the Final Fantasy VII character whom I'd come to think was rather cool and started posting with a more purposeful approach, that being an attempt to understand that rather and sometimes unnecessarily complex story inherent to all Final Fantasy games. As Red XIII I moved into the forum I now frequent the most and have always felt the most comfortable in: The Arena or The Square as it's now called. Over the course of the next few years I built up many great friends in The Arena and rather than tax my poor memory to boiling point I'm merely going to say that you all know who you are. I changed my username in 2002 to Outcast which is probably the name I'm best known for, before changing it again to Lynx in 2003 and again shortly afterwards to Kane which I stuck with for a good while before changing it for the final time in 2004 to Gavin. I've had the honour of being part of some great moments on Otakuboards, including several really enjoyable RPGs, met some amazing people, had the privilege of being thought of very highly by many in the Arena as well as the staff, and for coining the use of one's nationality in the User Title and the phrase "Interesting, most interesting" which I will never ever stop using. I've always loved being on OB and I believe I always will be, and even after four years of great times and great memories I look forward to the future.
And yeah. I miss the old OB days.[/color']
I doubt there's a single Oldie here who doesn't miss the good old days, I'd personally give my left arm to bring the quality we have in the Arena today to the energy we had in the Arena back then.

I came to this place in Version 4, under my username Saiyangohan2002, which I despised because i put a date on it, I just generaly hang around the Dragonball forum, until that got old. I can't say that I came for the post quality, or anything. I just came along because I saw this great anime hub that I hung around for Dragonball information had a forum. If you saw my first post, you'd know I didn't come for the quality, lol. Then, I instigated a series of name changes that would lead me to Shiniji. I changed to Evil Jedi this year but changed back, Shinji is the name I'm associated with now, and changing it again and all the hassle of getting re-aquainted with your buddies, I don't have the energy for it, lol. I'm probably best known for my S@bertooth days though, those were my most active.. I'm not to be confused with the V2 Shinji. lol.
Outlaw
Really, it was the RPs that got me here in the first place. You see, I had spent a short time here waaaay back in the day, like at the beginning of WAR as Great Gotenks. This was short lived, as I soon found myself in a DragonballZ message board which, at that time, I believed was of higher quality. The main allure of the cite was that your post count was also your powerlevel in fighting tournaments, and you could even randomly 'kill' members with much lower powerlevels, resricting them from posting for five minutes under penalty of suspension. But I digress. I originally came to this cite after a bitter rivalry with a 'clan' at this other cite, which cause me to abandon it forever. I had heard of it through friends at the other board, and quickly became inthralled by the RPs, joining up with the likes of DragonballZMan, Warlock, Angel Saturn Healer, Gouchan, and if memory serves me right, RedXIII, now Gavin. And man did we have some good RPs. The Hunt for the DragonBalls went through 3 full instalments, and lasted for months. Granted the posts were short and simple, as most RPs were at the time, but they were fun. By late 2003 and early 2004, I had all but given up on the boards, having started a series of highly unsucsessful RPs. Apartently I was pretty good at takeing part in RPs, but not very good at starting them. Especially 'The New Brotherhood of Mutants', which lasted all of 10 posts or so. Sigh, and I had such a good idea for a huge plot twist. But again, I digress. Now, for some godforesaken reason, I've been sucked back in. Congratulations OB, you've rehooked another junkie. Bloodseeker
I joined for the same reason that I join any forum; I was bored and wanted a new place to talk. I remembered a site called theotaku that I had visited a few months before, so I decided to join the forums there. And here I am!
Umbra II
The reason I joined was a very simple one. I was searching for anime quizzes and found one from this site (Which Inuyasha villian are you) and thought it was alright. Then I realized that this was a Forum, not just a quiz factory, and I took a look. I did not think I would find much, for all the Forums I had been were, how you say, leaving something to be desied in the way of intelligence. What I saw here surprised me. The quality was excellent. The people had good thoughts and tried to express them, and arguments were conducted civilly, not in a 'who can spam the worst' method. And I took a look at the Rpg's, which was something I hadn't seen before, and was blown away to find that it was very well thought out. I followed a couple for a while. But the clincher was the rules. When I saw them, I knew this wasn't your ordinary spam-tacular site. So I joined.
Pumpkin
Wow, I've seen this thread here acouple of times. But anyways, I came to OB for the same reason Gentle and Kayutori did. There was too much n00bish talk going on at AnimeOnline and later Minitokyo that I left both eventually. AO had a meltdown and the owner couldn't afford the site because it was becoming too big and when I went back it was nothing but spam. MT is more for people with artistic talent with creating wallpapers (seriously lacking skill there) and the forum consists of the same topic showing up atleast once a day. OB has better post quality and even though at first I thought there just wasn't very many members (which obviously isn't true) there is less posting then other forums because it isn't spam. Which is a good thing. I love how everything is so organized and I love the Adventure Square. I hadn't RP'd since I was 13 which were in chatrooms and this led me into a whole different world and got me into writing again. BTW, on a last note even though I was more of a neopets fan (this was when I was like 12) I had been on Gaia before and I found it boring just to make money to buy your avatar an outfit. Atleast with Neopets you could feed your pets.
Panda
I wandered over the OB after finding theOtaku.com. I love the moderating done on the boards to keep it free of mindless spammy posts. There are people who care about the grammar! It really was a shock to my system to find people who could hold an intellegent discussion about diverse subjects. Everything from anime series to religion and politics. All that and it's easier to secretly stalk Shinmaru on the boards. Oops, did I say that outloud? :animeswea
IceRose
Well I really liked the design in the first time I came and that got my attention. The fact that most sites that support anime are less organized got my attention too. I really liked the otaku.com so I saw that they had a forum and by the way this was the first web site I joined and Its great. Barely any spam, people are great and mods are not mean :animeswea
