They say History repeats itself. It?s something that those who care to look at the finer details of our past believe. Others simply think that it?s an absurd notion, created by those who have no imagination or want for the future. What is true is not known, however, it is clear that Peace and War swing in roundabouts. As the years of Peace come to a close, the governments of Earth begin to stir. They have the greatest minds on their side. They have the greatest weapon. They have the people.

They control the church. They control the schools. They control lives.

And in essence, they control Peace. It?s a frightening thought, so it?s no surprise the Worlds leaders keep their secrets under tight lock-and-key.

As technology has advanced, and human greed is the main driving force behind most movements and Projects, the government has strived to find new ways to control the masses. After all, if you can control so many people without much effort, there won?t be many powers that can stand against you.

This is how the Project SOUL team came into being. They were a small, tight group of scientists. Great minds from the greatest countries. And they discovered something dangerous, potentially deadly if in the wrong hands.

It was known as the SOUL Chip, and after ten years of research, has been implemented in almost every city in all the major countries. It is a way for the government to control the masses, something that their power hungry leaders have wanted since the end of Peace. The SOUL Chip is, essentially, a microchip, inserted into a foetus while it is still in the very early stages of development. Of course, civilians do not know about this, and the government intend to keep it that way.

For eons men have studied the idea of a human soul, it?s a shame that something originally thought of as so pure has been corrupted to create an evil, controlling weapon.
?In ancient times, the "delayed ensoulment" belief of Aristotle (384-322 BCE) was widely accepted in Pagan Greece and Rome. He taught that a foetus originally has a vegetable soul. This evolves into an animal soul later in gestation. Finally the foetus is "animated" with a human soul. This latter event, called "ensoulment," was believed to occur at 40 days after conception for male foetuses, and 90 days after conception for female foetuses.?

?The soul according to many religious and philosophical traditions, is the ethereal substance particular to a unique living being. Such traditions often consider the soul both immortal and innately aware of its immortal nature, as well as the true basis for sentience in each living being.?
***

?The microchip, as you can see on this diagram, is inserted at the base of the spine. We chose this spot as the vast majority of foetuses we?ve come acro??

?We?re not scientists, Doctor, we?re Politicians. We want to know how this will benefit us.?

The aging doctor felt a bead of sweat slip down his neck.

?Ah, yes. Of course. Well, basically, this microchip is like a?.a,? he snapped his fingers as he sought for the word, ?a remote.? The Politician raised an eyebrow. ?What I mean is, it has an On or Off switch.? He smiled awkwardly.

?Go on??

?Right, yes. If you so wish, a person?s SOUL chip can be powered on, which will send lots of tiny shocks to the brain, essentially shutting down the persons thought processes.?

?Won?t this turn people into vegetables?? Another man spoke up, his voice more curious than mocking.

?No, you see, this is where the magic is, gentlemen. As the controllers of this SOUL chip, you will be able to issue orders to any specific person when their chip is powered on. You will be able to do this by accessing their file in the super computer we will install if you so wish to use our technology.?

The scientist looked around nervously. He was usually a confident man, he was smart, but being surrounded by the World leaders and presenting a hugely illegal and, more importantly, immoral piece of technology was a little daunting.

?I do believe we?re interested in this SOUL chip, doctor. Would you care to show us more??

The man brightened up and rocked on his heels slowly as he wrung his hands, the nerves slowly bubbling into excitement. ?Oh, excellent, sir. Well, if you all would like to follow me, I shall take you to Soul Centre. We have real subjects their ready to be sent out on a?test run.? The last words were like hot coals on his tongue. This was wrong. Immensely wrong. But by now the doctor had a feeling he couldn?t go back.

Oh my, it has been a long time since I started off an RP.

I'm hoping this will be quite a big thing; actually, maybe I've set my hopes too high. I have plans for chapters in this, and extra notes will be explained briefly before the sign up sheet. If you want to know more, simply PM me.

NB: Parts Highlighted in red are very important, if you don't want to read the rest and feel you understand the game, then you don't have to read these extra notes.

The Concept: So, basically, we?re in a futuristic earth where the 'Years of War' are about to begin. This doesn't mean everything's like a wasteland; it just means that people won't be able to live in as much comfort as before. Politicians seem to like to blow each other up, you see.

This SOUL chip is a way for governments to control the masses, and the introduction to the RP shows you how it came into being and what it does. When the RP starts, we'll have moved forward by ten years, when everyone has a chip.

SOUL chips: Governments are using these chips to turn people into fighting machines, plain and simple. When a person?s chip is on, they have no free will, so they are totally under control. Think of this as the machine Neo is hooked up to in the Matrix. He can be taught Kung-Fu and anything else in a matter of seconds. If the government wants 50 snipers, they will simply put the information needed into 50 people, whatever age, and those people will know exactly what to do. Very simple, very scary.

Defectors: I know these aren't mentioned in the intro, simply because they haven't happened yet. This bit is extremely important. The vast majority of you will be Defectors (unless you choose to be a scientist or 'Off' person), so please read and ask questions about this if need be.
Defectors are people whose chip has malfunctioned. They have been programmed to do something, but their free will and thoughts still belong to them. Unfortunately for the human race this hardly ever happens, which is why I'll only accept four Defectors. So, while the governments believe that a person they have programmed is working for them, all they?ve done is let loose a super-human, basically. These Defectors figure out what?s going on (with the help of a key character, to be explained in a bit) and form a rebel group to overthrow Soul Centre.

Doctor Hadely: (Me) This is the daughter of the Doctor we see in the introduction. Her father is too afraid to talk about Project SOUL, but young Miss Hadely isn't and despises the whole concept. She's a genius in her own right and tracks down the known defectors in order to bring them up to speed and guide them. This is breaking possibly the biggest unwritten law currently in motion. She'd certainly be killed very slowly if she were found.

Now, with all that awful writing out of the way, I'll take you to the sign-up.
(Parts in blue are for Defectors only, if you so wish you can be someone who is 'Off? and help the rebel group, or you can be a government official working against them. A couple of the latter would be lovely.)

Name:
Age: (No younger than ten, please)
Gender:
Country:
Appearance: (Picture or good description)
Personality:
Programme: (Be creative here-This is like your power. It would be lovely if everyone had a different skill. Keep in mind that you don't have to be skilled in combat. You could be programmed to build bombs or perform difficult surgery under any circumstances.)
Feelings Towards Project SOUL: (It's always good to have at least one person who has to disagree, despite the fact they're a good guy ^_~)
Character Snippet: (At least two good paragraphs)

If you have any ideas from thinking outside of the box, feel free to send a PM my way. Also, any questions go to my Inbox. This RP will (I hope) be using the chapter system.

(Just a small note. You'll notice that the RP is at an M rating for Language and Violence. If this goes to plan, with the chapters I have in mind, then those ratings should ring true. I imagine there may be some innuendo or sexual references along the way, but I'm not expecting it, therefore it isn't rated. However, I have nothing against those kinds of things, so if anyone feels it will fit in with the storyline when we get to it, just warn people in advance. ^_~)

OOC: Sounds like a promising idea, Imi.
EDIT: Complete!!
The snippet is before she became a defector, while she was still a slave to the SOUL Chip. I'm not sure if that's what you wanted though.
Let me know if I should change anything.

They're wrapped tightly around her legs so they don't move much when she's being active.

Personality: Sakura is quite a cold person, she's not openly friendly to anyone unless; they can earn her trust, which is extremely hard since she has a tough time trusting anyone because of how she grew up; or she senses that they're ok. She has a strong sense of loyalty, and if you have her trust, you can count on it until she dies. Sakura is very reliable, knowledgeable, and strong in all ways. She'll never give up until she accomplishes what she set out to do. If anyone gets on her bad side, they will regret it because she will most likely challenge them to a fight, and most likely win since she hasn't lost a fight since she was implanted, and even before that she rarely lost.

Programme: Sakura is skilled in all of the disciplines of combat and weaponry. She knows all the different varieties of martial arts and how to use all types of weapons. Along with her martial arts and weaponry skills, she has an excellent aim, having pinpoint accuracy with any projectile weapon. Sakura also has a large range of general knowledge of things, especially computers and programming.

Feelings Towards Project SOUL: Sakura doesn't agree with the SOUL Project because the people are used as robots, being forced to do what they don't necessarily want to. Sakura's glad that she's a defect because no one controls her.

Character Snippet: Sakura's eyes were lifeless and cold behind her thick goggles, just brown pools with no emotion held within. In her right hand she clasped one of her guns, she crept silently, the night provided sufficient cover for her. She produced a silencer from her pocket and easily screwed it on as she put her back against the wall, she cocked her gun and sprung around the corner, crouching and taking a shot at the guard that stood beside the door. He slumped to the floor with a bulletwound in his forehead.

Sakura ran over and pulled the strap of his automatic rifle from his shoulder, slinging it over her own and tucking her gun back into it's holster. She grasped it and continued to move along with her mission, coldly killing anyway that guarded her way.

Sakura stood in front of a door, she raised her boot and kicked it open, rolling through the entrance and spraying bullets around the room, each imbedding itself in one of the group of 15 men. She had hit one man in particular in a not so vital area. Sakura walked over and pressed the barrel of her gun against his forehead.

"Get up." she stated in a monotonous voice.

He trembled and obeyed, pleading with her to let him go. Sakura didn't reply, but she prodded him in the back with her gun, forcing him to walk, though he did so slowly since there were a few bullets in his legs. Once she dropped him off at the station, her mission would be complete.

This sounds awesome... Im down for it!

Name: Liliana Martinez

Age: 25

Gender: Female

Country: USA

Appearance:Will edit!

Personality: Usually an easy going girl but can bevome mean at the drop of the dime. Hates ignorant people and has very few friends. Is very loyal once you break through the tough exterior.

Programme: Is already a smart young lady. Has been studying chemisty with a minor in Biological Science. But not also smart she can be very dangerous with a gun or knife in hand to hand combat. Has been sent out on sniper missions before but about 5 years ago began to reject the chip. Has since become a Defector

Feelings Toward Project Soul: Learned about project SOUL only a few years ago and has been striving since then to get in anyways involved in the Project. Feels that it will have better use in the military or those who voluntarily wish to be control. Wishes that it would change.

Character Snippet: Diary Entry #250
I can't belive its been this many times. This is the 250th time I've felt the SOUL chip trying to control me, I have only felt this over the past 5 years, so who knows how many other times I have actually been controlled by it.
I hate this feeling. As of now I sit in the room and stare at the streets of my small town. Luckily I am able to fight it and luckily I have my roommate hiding the keys from me till the morning. I just hope it passes by then. I was able to convince her Im too drunk to go out tonight. I can't belive she fell for it. Well in actuallity thats how it feels when I fight this chip.
I don't remember when I got it but all I know is that since then Ive had periods of blackouts, and I remember nothing that happens. I wake up in strange places, but funny thing when I get home no one questioned me. They assumed I was with family or friends and asked no question. They may have realized it early or do they have the same episodes and think it to be some medical issue they can ignore.
Ahh well, I'm just happy my parents are gone. They wouldn't want to hear what I have to say. Its just a shame the way they died. THe details are still sketchy according to the authorities, but I have an idea of what may have happened. This is why I've dedicated my time to finding out more about the SOUL chip. I have to become involved in this project. I need to find out what happened to my parents. I need to stop it or put it to better use. I just hope I can find more out there like me who can help.

This looks interesting, kind of like the film Equilibrium, I don't know if anyone on here has seen it, but its worth a watch.

Name: Jake Preston

Age: 21

Gender: Female

Country: England

Appearance: Here

Personality: Jake is thoroughly British, through and through. He has the dry wit of an Englishman, along with a distaste for the weather. He has a biting sense of humour, which is used to disguise deep emotional scars.

Programme: Jae has been programmed to be able to assemble and disassemble most handguns in circulation, as well as use them highly efficiently. His acrobatic talent has been increased, so he is lithe and nimble, able to infiltrate stealthily.

Feelings Towards Project SOUL: Jake has deep dislike for SOUL, as they have taken control of his entire family. He was the only one lucky enough to escape from the government control. This is the one thing he has remained bitter about throughout his life. Most of the time he can roll with the punches, but he cannot stand Project SOUL.

Character Snippet: A nimble, agile figure, silhouetted against the bright dispersing halogen lamps, flipped from his hands to his feet and back, passing through the criss-cross laser grid with surprising ease. He turned to admire his own agility, pausing for a second to smile, before turning back to the job at hand. He found the one computer terminal that was directly linked to the network, and booted it up. The whirring may have alerted someone, so he would have to be quick.

He quickly typed in the username and password he had been given, and opened a program named "Missile Program." He looked through the contents of the file. It was full of blueprints for a new generation of heat-seeking missiles, powerful enough to wipe out large cities. He copied the documents onto a memory key, and deleted the original copies. Then, from the memory key, he released a virus, which would locate and wipe out any other residual information relating to the file he had just deleted.

He switched the computer off, and took a small device from his pocket. He clamped it to the low glass ceiling of the computer room, and activated the device. A laser quickly cut a hole large enough for a grown man to fit through. He withdrew the device and pulled himself up through the hole.

Within a few minutes, he was out of the compound, the military secrets stored in his pocket. It would be hours before anyone sounded the alarm, and by then he would be switched off...

(OOC: I hope this is ok, PM me if I need to change anything)

Man, it has been forever since I have tried the 'bad guy' role, but the last time I did it made for one of my favorite RPs ever. So here goes.
------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Robert "WARMACHINE" Jones

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Country: United States

Appearance: Robert is a clean cut, blonde haired, blue eyed military man. His 6'2" body has been conditioned to chilsed perfection and shaved of all body hair. While piloting the WARMACHINE, he is forced to wear a skin tight nerve suit which connects his own thought patterns to the suit. The WARMACHINE itself stands 8"7' tall, and looks LIKE THIS.

Personality: Cold and calculating, groomed by years of military training and dicipline. Even without the chip, he is almost fully obediant to the US military.

Character Snippet: Deep in the heart of the Nevada desert a war is being waged. But this is not a war for money or land, but rather one to prove a man's worth. This is a war to prove that Robert Jones is truely America's new WARMACHINE. For years, Robert has been subject to harsh military testing and training, honing his mind and body to perfection. But the training has been about so much more than createing a 'super soldier'. Along with his own development, the military's top scientists have been developing a weapon fit only for the ultimate warrior. An exo-skeleton known as the US WARMACHINE. And now, both the man and the weapon are being tested in the harshest of battle conditions.

As the US WARMACHINE flies through the air at speeds reaching that of sound, an armada of tanks and stationary anti-aircraft guns struggle to find their target and take down this new one man army. But with such a high velocity and small frame, the computer run artillery is luck to even see the WARMACHINE.

With a quickness that could outmanuver any conventional aircraft, the suit breaks out of its original fliht plan and decends towards his opposition. As he streaks through the sky, dodging enemy fire a mere 100 yds from the ground, he unloads with his own barrage of amror piercing rounds from the forearm mounted gautling guns and multi-warhead missles from sholder mounted launchers. Within seconds, the force that could have destroyed a small city had been reduced to scrap metal.

Inside a large bunker two miles away a council of the US army's top brass watch with great admiration as the battle unfolded. The engineers and scientists responsible for this marvel of modern technology looked on the military leaders, hoping for a positive response. A single general stepped forward with a grin from ear to ear. "I think we have the perfect job for him."

Days later that same general stold infront of the UN's council on the SOUL project. "Gentlemen," he began, "for years, the SOUL project has been the cornerstone of our nearly world wide peace. But our recent studies have shown that the project has a flaw, and some of our 'subjects' have been regaining their freedom. And so, today, I present to you, the United State's government's solution to this problem. An weapon whose's versitility is matched only by it's power. Gentlemen, I give you the US WARMACHINE!" Robert emerged from the conferense room's double doored entrance, armor fully entact and shining under the powerful florecent lights hung from the ceiling. After watching the footage of the WARMACHINE's test in the desert, and now seeing it's emposing visage in real life, the council's decision was unanimous. Robert Jones was now project SOUL's first enforcer.

Name: Miranda Smith.

Age: 16.

Gender: Female.

Country: United States [Southern].

Appearance: Miranda has a Caucasian complexion and is a little short- she tops in at only 5'2" or so. Her body is rather lean and she is pretty plain looking- but that doesn't seem to bother her. She has medium-length hair kept in a pony tail that is a very deep black color. She usually wears casual clothing and maintains no desire to be "fashionable"- she dresses for her own comfort in lieu of that. With this unassuming appearance, the only thing that really stands out about her is her eyes. They are different colors- her left one is a vibrant shade of light green and her right is hazel colored. Most people take a deep interest in her eyes- but to her it's just "normal".

Personality: Miranda is one of the more happy-go-lucky people you'll meet. With no real sense of purpose and no real motivations in her life, she has been, until now, listlessly going through life rather boredly. Her lack of concern/care/otherwise puts off people sometimes- but she means well. She's friendly and good hearted- but rather naive. She just turned 16 recently so her experience of the world is minimal at best. She holds romantic ideas [from the many books she's read] about things like war, adventure, romantic escapades and otherwise- one can only hope that she won't become too jaded from the "reality" that seems to be in store for her.

She has a growing interest in engineering, mechanics and the like due to her programming. It's one of her only real interests at the moment.

Programme: Miranda has been programmed in combat engineering and field engineering. This gives her a pretty varied set of skills- field engineers handle the maintenance of equipment, weapons and vehicles [including the WARMACHINE]. Combat engineers handle many offensive and defensive tasks. In the United States Army they emphasize three "tasks" for combat engineers:

Mobility: improving your own force's ability to move around the battlefield. Combat engineers typically support this role through reduction of enemy obstacles which include point and row minefields, anti-tank ditches, wire obstacles, concrete and metal anti-vehicle barriers and wall and door breaching in urban terrain.

Countermobility: building obstacles to prevent the enemy from moving around the battlefield. Destroying bridges, blocking roads, cratering airstrips, digging trenches, etc. Can also include planting landmines and booby traps when authorized and directed to do so.

Survivability: building structures which enable one's own soldiers to survive on the battlefield. Examples include trenches, bunkers, shelters, and armored vehicle fighting positions.

Most of the above skills are probably useless outside of a real war but could be useful in some situations. Her most useful skill is her ability with explosives. She can handle them a little too well [she's a genius at making bombs] and seems fond of watching things explode [call it a quirk]. She was given a "general training" program in rifles and can handle an assault rifle adequately. She has no hand-to-hand or melee combat skills and is rather green at strategy/tactics outside of drawing people into traps.

Feelings Towards Project SOUL: Miranda doesn't condone their actions against her and others but she doesn't think that anyone has the power to stop the Governments from doing as they desire with their populous. Consider her indifferent.

Character Snippet: Miranda sat with her hands folded on her lap, her eyes staring at her personal computer. The e-encyclopedia before her displayed a intricate article about the inner workings of an old US Army tank. She was dazzled by the specifications but was confused at the same time- where did this liking of engineering come from? She was even tinkering with bombs now- it was illegal, obviously, but it just seemed so.. interesting. It all seemed to have started some months ago when she got.. sick. Or felt sick. Or was sick? She didn't know, she didn't understand what had happened during that month. It had felt like she had lost an entire period of weeks and she didn't know what she spent them doing. It was weird. Too weird. She had tried to forget about it but it was impossible to- after she "woke up" from whatever she had been doing she tried to just walk away from it but there was stuff in her head. Knowledge.. about things that she didn't have a clue about not even half a year ago. Not just basic knowledge either- the kind of knowledge you'd only get after years upon years of dedicated studying.

What had gone on? She searched the Internet to see if anyone else had this sort of situation and only came upon a series of websites dedicated to conspiracy theories. She sighed, recalling how nuts they had all sounded. They were going on about some kind of a chip or something. Still.. something had happened. It was easy to shrug it off as nonsense- maybe she was nuts. A chuckle escaped her lips and she rubbed her forehead, trying to clear her thoughts. Her phone rang and she let out a startled yelp before shaking her head- she really needed to just calm down. She glanced at the caller ID on her phone and didn't recognize the phone number. She didn't bother to answer it and just zoned into her own insecure thoughts.

A rumble outside alerted her to the coming rain- she liked the rain. It was soothing. Perhaps it would mend her unusually frayed nerves. She was usually pretty carefree but this.. this was too personal. Too strange. Would she find some answers? She tilted her head at the screen and went to her "Favorites" folder, clicking on the conspiracy theorist sites that she had saved so many days ago. She began to reread them with some skepticism about it all. Project SOUL- it sounded kind of hokey.

A sigh escaped her lips, "Doesn't anyone have the answers I need?"

~-~

PM me if you need something altered/changed/deleted/eaten/whatever. Good job with this one- I think it's pretty original.

Name: Wolfgang Mann, Codename "Schwarz-Geist"
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Country: Germany
Appearance: Wolfgang

Personality: Wolfgang is not what one generally imagines from a spy; he's understandably cocky, unimaginably vocal, and unusually cheerful. He lives his life perfectly in the moment, doing whatever he wants whenever he wants, and damn all consequences. It is this life philosophy of his that has led to his most prominent personality trait - he strives in chaos, and lives purely for conflict. This makes him an excellent soldier, as he'll fight to the bitter end for any side he's on, but it also means that he's terribly prone to changing sides when it suits him.

Programme: As his alias, "Schwarz-Geist" or "Black Ghost," might have you believe, Wolfgang's specialty is Covert Ops missions. Basically, his Programme makes him a perfect information gatherer, with an impressive knoweldge of stealth capabilities, languages, and even make-up and hair-styling. His spying capabilties are top notch, but that is not his only combat-ready capability. Along with gathering information, Wolfgang is very good at using it. Give him a situation, and 9 times out of 10, he'll figure a way out of it.

Feelings Towards Project SOUL: Wolfgang understands the merits of the Project, and admires the men who took the initiative to make it. However, he is the kind of person who seeks entropy and chaos, so he seeks to prove the holes in the system and shake things up a little. War is his bread and butter, and he intends to bring one around as soon as possible.

Character Snippet: Schwarz-Geist grinned as he sat atop a low, flat roof. Below him, a full-scale riot was in progress; and it had started with one little drunken man. Ply him with some alcohol, listen to his life story, play up old wounds. Simple stuff. Then, when you know his Achillies heel, call attention to it with one of the more unsavoury patrons. That got the first fists flying.

Soon, the more brutal drunks get in on things, too. And when you've got a knot of five or six big, burly gents pounding eachother senseless, someone else is bound to get hurt. Or something might get broken. That gets things accelerated. Then the manager gets angry. Police are called in.

Ah, the simple strategy of riot building. Drunken fools were cut down in a quick hail of gunfire, while police suffered casualties at the hands of broken bottles and at least one Molotov Cocktail. And all Schwarz-Geist had to do was talk to two men, and then get his *** out of there right quick. So, so simple.

He laughed to himself and ran a hand through long, deep brown hair. In no more than an hour, the riot would be quelled, but for now, he had a show. This kind of thing was what he lived for. The chaos, the bloodshed, the raw humanity of it all. Sent shivvers into his soul and a smile to his lips. And soon, if he played his cards right, he could get the whole world involved in another kind of riot.

War was coming. Time to party.

Name: ...Why you so interested? If yeh reallah' wanna know, Samael. Also called "Schwarzwind", which means Black Wind for you non-german types.
Age: The 'oung age of 21. Prime o' the life, eh?

Gender: Guy, not a girl, male, ecetera.

Country: Legal US resident. Finally, I told you something without bein' a jackass. Happy? Wait, I just ruined the moment. Sorry.

Appearance: Here. Yeh ever hear of "Take a picture, it lasts longer?" Well, when I said it, tha' jackass thought I was serious.

Personality: I'm sure all of yeh smart people (Smart my ***...you're about as smart as a circle is straight.) could figure it out, but I'm a masochistic, slightly insane jackass. I love vulgarity, and I speak a few languages; German, English, and Profanity. Fluent in the first two, master of the second. And yes, my favourite word in profanity is ***, you probably can't go a minute with me without hearin' it. There's several up there that rank 'long with it, but we'll save those for a later time.

Programme: No, I'm not no damn matrix boy with the kung-fu and slowin' down time. Fuuuuck, I'm better than that, you 'spect any less? Most of the people nowadays prefer the techy-*** things like guns n' such. Sure, I might blow a cap into yer *** at any time with my Sig Saucer, but I love to use somethin' with an edge. I am the ******* master of edge weapons. I own a collection of 'em, my favorite I call Rei. This chip or whatnot also allows meh to isolate and physically strengthen mah muscles without doin' any excerise. Strange, eh?

Feelin' towards Project Soul: It's okay, it's alright. I don't give a ****. Ecetera. It gave me this power and strength, so I got to give somethin' back. But it made me a WANTED FREAKING MAN. Dat...I don't forget or forgive.

Character Snippit: "You are not human. You are ours, you are a tool, a machine, no free will. We have taken you off the street, given you a home. Given you a purpose. You now belong to us."

The voice rang with truth and conviction through his head, and a rather painful jolt slammed through his head, forcing Samael to jerk involuntarily. No, no, no! He wasn't a tool to use, even though half of his mind said he was. The two hemispheres of his brain were in a power struggle, fighting for control of his body. However, the one that said he wasn't a tool soon fell silent.

"Good. No internal conflict...looks like the process was a success. You will report to your home. Everything is fine, you have enrolled in the army as an arms specialist. That is what your story is. Go. And remember to tell them that you WILL be called into active service sometime." The voice dipped from shadows draped against the wall, with dark features that were even now unidentifiable. He reached behind him, and pulled out two things; a security pass, and a sword.

The sword had a strange design, a handle with no hilt guard made out of a strange red metal. Leading up to the blade was a crimson and silver grille design, like some machines use to vent heat-and fire. The blade itself was deadly sharp, but rectangle shaped. It was a very strange weapon. The Voice handed it over to him, along with the pass.

"The sword is yours to keep, the security card as well." He was given directions on how to get out, and soon followed them, the small voice in the back of Samael's head still resisting.

Weeks later, he had already preformed services for the government, from riot control to assassination plots. He was a drone, a servant of the hive of buracraticy. However...early in the morning one day, he awoke to find blood dripping from his nose, and he cleaned it off, muttering.

"What the hell...?" Those words shocked him more than the nosebleed. Samael hadn't been able to say those kind of things since the Soul implant. Did that mean...? No, not yet. The SOUL implant kicked in, but his free mind began to fight it even stronger. He'd conquer the chip today, and his life would change.

OOC:Edited.

Okay, I'm quite happy with the vast majority of the sign ups here, I'd just like to point things out to some people:

[STRIKE]Duke-Your character seems pretty good, but I'm really not fond of your character snippet. It's too short for one and a little pointless. Sorry to say it, but I just...don't like it. If you could extend it to give me more of an insight to your character and his abilities, that would be much better.[/STRIKE] Very good, s'ah.

Outlaw- I adore your character, but your sign-up really is sloppy and despite the fact that he's perfect for an idea I had for this RP, I'm feeling a little off on accepting you. Your character snippet is more of an explanation, and is far too short anyway. Look at others sign ups to see what I want for this, please. It would be a shame not to let your character in.

DeathKnight- *dribbles over your sign up* I'm so happy you're joining, Team Leader, s'ah. (Or ma'am?) ^_~

I'm leaving sign ups open until tomorrow afternoon (My time) which gives everyone well enough time to edit their sign ups, or if anyone else wants to join. I'll edit in my sign up tomorrow before I start the RP.

Just before I finish-Most of you have been in at least one of my RPGs before, or you know me personally, so you know that I tend to prefer quality over quantity. While I did state I would accept four defectors, I may lower the amount if I feel that there aren't four sign ups that are up to par. On the flip side, if I have more than that, I may just stretch to five defectors.

(Outlaw, considering your character won't be on Hadely's team, you won't be counted in the final defector group. You'll be by yourself)

Duke and ULX, I think I may need to talk to the two of you today about your characters. I have some plot twists begging to be discussed.

Name: Celestia Wilkey

Age: 28

Gender: Female

Country: USA

Appearance: Celestia

Personality: Celestia is hard working and completely serious. Nothing is more important to her than finishing a research project or making sure things run smoothly in her department at work. She has a deep sense of commitment and strongly feels that to give any less than your best is unacceptable. Although she is a bit of a slave driver she is well loved by her colleagues and coworkers, as she also makes sure her staff is well cared for and has everything they need in order to accomplish what she expects of them.

Programme: Celestia is a skilled researcher and medical professional. She has extensive knowledge in chemistry, genetics and medical techniques. Although she is currently head of the government?s research center on human genetics she is easily skilled enough to perform almost any form of medical procedures. She also has the knowledge necessary to know how to create all sorts of biological weapons, formulas for antidotes and how to make all sorts of medicines by simply using the base materials needed. It?s as if all she has to do is see the formula once and she instantly knows how to go about making it. The same with surgical procedures, she only has to see it done once to be able to do it herself.

Celestia is quick on her feet as she was trained in hand to hand combat since she was a child, but it?s a skill she rarely uses as she only learned it to be able to defend herself against a would be mugger or rapist. She is skilled with a set of knifes and is a fair shot with handguns, but beyond that she knows next to nothing about actual combat. She still practices it on a regular basis, but primarily as it helps her to stay fit and therefore have greater stamina for the long hours she puts in at the Genetics Research Institute.

Feelings Towards Project SOUL: Celestia has heard the rumors of such a project, but believes it to be a myth made up by people who are uneducated and too stupid to realize what the chips are really used for. Having worked with the government for a long time she has helped in unlocking the secrets behind a human?s genetic code that would allow such a device to be used to regulate and control a person?s system and therefore slow down aging and prevent most diseases. Celestia herself is controlled by the government and doesn?t realize that the chip implanted in her actually does control her.

Character Snippet: Celestia finished reading the report regarding the latest failed experiment and shut down the computer before leaving her office for the day. In spite of extensive research something was still off. She was puzzled by the last three subjects who in spite of doing so well at the beginning of the chip insertion were still developing and catching diseases. According to her calculations every single fetus implanted should be free of any defects. Admittedly only about one in a thousand was having problems, but there just shouldn?t be any at all!

Celestia climbed into her small modest white Geo Prism and drove through the opened security doors to the underground garage of the laboratory. She absent mindedly waved to the security guard on duty and then went back to thinking about her project. What was really irritating is that she had been handed a new project by the government and she didn?t want to leave the current one until the bugs were worked out. As much as she would love to refuse she knew that the newest assignment would have to take top priority.

Apparently there were those with the chips implanted that had gone rouge so to speak. As the general public was unaware that the chips even existed it posed a threat to the entire project, as people would go nuts when they realized that they had a chip implanted in them. The last thing Celestia wanted to happen was for people to throw away decades of research because they were paranoid. No she would do as ordered and assist in the search for those who had been driven mad and delusional by the malfunction. She would need to recover the chips so she could determine what had gone wrong. Now if only they could assign her with someone intelligent, unlike the last time she had been required to assist the military.

Name: Dr Esther Hadely
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Country: England
Appearance: Esther
Esther stands at 5'3'' inches, and is permanently dressed in casual jeans and T-Shirts. Her hair hangs long and is either thrown into a practical braid, or left loose. She isn't one to enhance her features, seeing herself as a boring person to start with.

Personality: There aren't many major flaws with Esther's personality, as she's a very adaptable and easy-going person the vast majority of the time. However, her one downfall is possibly one of the worst points of all--she's overly headstrong and tends to listen to her heart rather than her head. Something her father is desperately trying to get her out of, especially considering the kinds of things she feels strongly about. Once she has set her mind on something, she will not stop until it's done. When it comes to people, Esther can be quite shy if the person she has just met has a more confident aura about them. She's easily intimidated by strong men with sharp tongues.

Character Snippet: Esther flipped through her old journals; her mouth hitching up only slightly as old photos fell out, the corners worn by time and affection. How long had it been since she'd looked through these old pages? Whatever the years, it was too long ago.

She found the part when her father had first told her about Project SOUL...that was the day she'd stopped writing her journals. She seemed to have grown up very quickly with the knowledge that her father had, in essence, helped to imprison the whole of the human race. She touched the base of her spine and sighed. The scientists and their families had immunity from the chips, as they may need to be called upon once again if any glitches ever occurred. She was lucky.

Esther drew in a shuddering breath and closed the book in her hands, dropping it back into the small wooden box before pushing it under her bed. As she knelt on the floor she smoothed her hands over the cotton material covering her mattress. She really was growing up now--she was a successful scientist and was expected to carry on working for the government in order to further research into Project SOUL, but she'd have none of it. Human freedom was far too important in her opinion and she'd rather die than live with a guilty conscience.

She'd seen how her father had withered over the years. They passed them, sometimes, these poor people who had been taken over. Their eyes were glazed and they seemed to be scarcely breathing. Esther sometimes wondered if they were dead, so the government wouldn't have to worry about feeding them.

She had hated her father when he first told her. Even at the age she was she had a strong sense of what was right and wrong, and a guilty conscience to go with it. Things that weren?t even caused by her Esther felt responsible for. She loved her father dearly, but he was to blame for lots of things wrong in Esther's life.

The fact that she couldn't go out in public without alerting the police, for example, just in case some vigilante who had somehow figured out the SOUL chips tried to attack her.

The fact that she couldn't talk to men was her father?s doing, too. Well, that's what she told herself, anyway. He was always so weak and so, Esther having grown up with only one parent who was a wilting, weakling of a man, could not stand up to any man who showed even the slightest bit of confidence.

It was awful, and she needed to stop it. That's why she was leaving to see her father, and finally have the discussion he'd been dreading.

This will be up in (I hope) about 15 minutes! I'm sending PMs to those of you who have been accepted. If you don't receive a PM and wish to know why, I'll be happy to tell you. Apart from that, enjoy the show.
