Guest kuroinuyoukai
Is there an anime or manga that's extremely popular and you don't understand ho or why it is? Explain your thoughts. Please be nice. Saying that "it just sucks" is not an explanation! I personally don't understand all these shows with decks of cards in them. Yu-Gi-Oh, DuelMasters, etc. all seem the same to me. I don't get how they are so popular. hoew does playing a card game get so popular? i'm confusing myself now. I would like to hear your thoughts! DarkDragon
I think some anime are so popular like Yu-Gi-Oh because they like card games. Same with Duel Masters. Some people actualy look on the show just to get some tips on how to duel! For me there is no other way for me to explain it. I doubt I'm right for a lot of people but I know I'm right for some. Oh, well :animesigh I hope I helped.
Guest kuroinuyoukai
This is what I was afraid of. I was not saying,"Tell me why this anime sucks". I was just saying that I did not understand what is the big deal. I will gracefully take my leave and let this thread go where it will until it is shut. I apologize if I confused or offended any member. :animeangr

Magus
Personally, I haven't seen any animes that sucked. (Take in my account that I haven't seen many animes at all.) However I do find some overrated. (Well not some, just 1) EDIT: That can be ignored. To answer your question. I've always wondered why Inuyasha always got the high praises. Now keep in mind I don't find this show bad because I watch it as well, I just find it overrated. I don't understand the obsession most people have for it. (And when I say obsessed.... man, the obsession turns into weirdness.) Edit: Crap.... y'all are some of the fastest typers I have ever seen. Dagger
There's a distinction to be drawn here: what's good to me/you personally, versus what's good in an objective sense. Here's an example. Not to harp on Inuyasha, but since it's already been mentioned... does Inuyasha have filler? Yes, that's a fact. Does the villain remain the same throughout the entire series? Yes. Does it have much of an ending? No, not really. A few people may actually like these characteristics. Some might not care either way, or enjoy the positive aspects of the show enough to keep the traits mentioned above--or anything else that could be construed as negative, actually--from bothering them. Still others will find stuff like that to be completely intolerable. That's all opinion. But--and this is kind of hard to express clearly, but I'll try--depending on whom you speak with, certain characteristics will be viewed widely as being either good or bad. This is where the whole message board demographics thing comes into play--a lurking variable, if you will. It seems pretty self-evident (talk to members of an Inuyasha forum, and they'll probably like most aspects of Inuyasha; talk to members of a forum focusing on super-arty series, and they probably won't). Even so, it's something to keep in mind if you get tired of people complaining about length or filler or the like. I rarely see anyone try to assert that a particular anime is objectively bad, and that enjoying said show means you have terrible taste and are doomed as a fan. It just means that they've stated an opinion without going to the trouble of disclaiming it as such--and so long as they're not being particularly abrasive, they shouldn't really have to. And this thread kind of overlaps with the bashing topic, now that I think about it. I may merge them. ~Dagger~

I never said Inuyasha was bad nor did I say it was good. I said it was overrated. I don't "praise" Inuyasha simply because it doesn't meet my standards. All I see in it is a repetitive storyline. (Of course you may see something different) I don't care for romance. The action is mediocre. (And I'm a hardcore action fan. I prefer action over almost everything.) I'm gonna tell you now. Just because you cherish this show. I could careless. Your views won't change my views. (If you take offense then my bad, but honestly.... I just don't care. I've been in far too many arguments dealing with these type of topics because I don't share someone elses opinion, and don't feel like going through another.) Edit: And this is where things fall apart. >_> Edit: I couldn't remember how to spell that word correctly for nothing. THANK YOU ANIMEKID. "mediocre" *writes it down*

I think the biggest fan of the show was my sister, who never played the card game. Yeah, the show was about people playing a card game. But it was also about dark and light, good and evil, faith, trickery, friendship, hope, determination, magic, quirky villains, ancient Egypt, ghosts, secrets, love, cute creatures, kickass monsters--you get the idea. So there's definitely something there to enjoy.
