The Sword~The Shield~The Horn~The Scroll~The Knife

Alongside our world of ?reality? exist infinite others. Worlds of war. Worlds of peace. Worlds of dawn. Worlds of twilight. Worlds of choice. Worlds of fate. Worlds of truth. Worlds of lies. Worlds of magic?

In one such world, where humanity had not yet ?progressed? past medieval times, a small kingdom formed. Its king rose to power through deeds of great good and he protected his people with a selfless fierceness rarely seen in humanity. He stove for peace at every chance, but his neighbors were not like him. They gathered armies against him and the king was left with no choice but to forge an army of his own. He chose as his generals five trusted friends known for their strength, resolve, loyalty, wisdom and cunning. They pledged their lives to him and their kingdom.

With such a strong alliance of good, the king and his generals managed to defend their home. The invading armies retreated and the kingdom was safe? But what the king never expected was an attack from within. He never expected that one of his trusted generals would betray him? but one did. One of his trusted allies stole the king?s own knife and killed him.

The other four could not believe what had happened. They threw the traitor out of the kingdom and tried to lead it themselves, as their dead friend would have wanted. However, the traitor raised a new army, made of all the old king?s bitter enemies. This time, the four friends could not defend the kingdom and they were left with only one choice. They cast a final spell? they gave their lives and took those of their enemies.

However, the four did not want to leave their kingdom powerless against future attack. So, they sealed their souls, and their powers, each in one of the king?s belongings: the sword, the shield, the horn and the scroll. The traitor, realizing the power of their spell, sealed his own soul in the knife.

Time passed peacefully in the kingdom until? someone found the knife?

~

Alright. Because someone (evil) found the knife, four people must take up the other four items and use the power sealed inside them to defend their kingdom. Who are these people? Anyone really? the son of a magician, a knight, the daughter of a fisherman, a young alchemist, an artist, whatever? these people had normal lives before this threat arose. Keep in mind that they are all human, the setting is medieval-ish, and some people (not necessarily everyone) can use magic. In addition, if your character takes up one of the four items, they must have a personality somehow related to the trait the item represents.

Characters:

The Sword- Strength
The Shield- Resolve (Hayama)
The Horn- Loyalty
The Scroll- Wisdom
Others who wish to aid them.

The Knife- Cunning? turned selfish and traitorous
Others who wish to serve him/her

Name: Cosain
Item: The Shield
Gender: Female
Age: 21

Personality: Quiet and humble. She waits until she is needed. She gives everything to protect those she must. She never lets herself fail, yield or lose faith. She is silently stubborn, sometimes to a fault. She tends to play the older sister? breaking up fights, giving comfort and advice.

Appearance: Medium height/build. Brown hair and eyes. Face Clothes

Background: IC

No matter how many times Cosain tried the transmutation, it looked nothing like her father?s example. What was supposed to be a lavender crystal came out looking like a purple clod of dirt. She just didn?t have the alchemic skill her father did. She was far better at energy spells? but that was no reason to get discouraged. Cosain opened her notes to check over the ingredients again.

Suddenly, there was a hand on her shoulder. ?Too much carbon again dear.?

Cosain sighed. ?I know father? I?ll do it over.?

?Just leave it, Cosain,? the tall, grey-bearded man said gently.

?No,? Cosain objected quietly, ?I?ll try it again.?

?I mean it,? her father said more firmly. ?It doesn?t matter. Your talents lie in other areas. Just because alchemy is all I can teach you doesn?t mean you have to try so hard. Besides, you won?t be studying alchemy anymore.?

Cosain closed her notebook slowly. ?I? won?t??

The man shook his head. ?A messenger came today, direct from the High Council. They?ve chosen you, Cosain.?

Cosain didn?t have to ask what that meant. Everyone knew the High Council was selecting people to fight against the powerful criminal who wielded the ancient knife. ?Which one?? Cosain asked.

?The Shield,? the alchemist answered. ?I don?t know how they decided on you, but I think they made a good choice. It?s an honor, Cosain, and I?m proud of you.?

Name: Devlin

Even sacrifice his life.
Appearance: Devlin

Background: The young man walked through the dirt streets, on his way home from yet another tiring day. At the door of his simple home, his little brother and sister met him running. The two children were both talking at once, and Devlin couldn't understand what they were saying. "Woa, woa, one at a time you two," he said with a smile, then looked up at the woman following them at a slower pace.

Devlin took care of his younger siblings after their father was called away on knightly business and their mother fell ill with a severe sickness. She still never left the bed, and almost always had a fever. It had been about 2 years. His fiancé, Mary, helped a lot. She stood in front of him with a half-hearted smile, trying not to hamper the children's joy.

"You've been chosen, Devlin," She said sadly.
"Yea!" the kids exclaimed at once. "A messenger came today!" Herthe beamed and her brother Ross finished with a grin, "They chose you for the horn!"
"Really?" Devlin questioned, followed by a violent coughing fit. "Go in inside guys alright? I have to speak to Mary a moment."
"Ok!" they cheered, and ran off.
"Yes?But I don't want you to go. Your health-"

"I'm afraid I don't have a choice Mary, it's my loyal duty. Don't fret love," he whispered. "Ross will soon be accepted as a knight, I know it. And Herthe will make a great seamstress. She has you to teach her."

"Just be careful, alright? Don't over stress yourself," Marry worriedly said.
"Don't worry. I'll do whatever it takes, you can be sure of that," Devlin replied.

Name: Varyl

Item: Knife

Gender: Venus

Age: 18

Personality: Varlyl is a clever, cheating and traitorous fiend who's only looking out for herself. She loves to play tricks and games and finds other's pain amusing. She deffinately isn't shy.

Appearance: Varyl stands at 5"7 with a slender, fragile figure made for sprinting. As an albino, she has long white hair pulled into two equally long braids and crimson eyes. She dresses like a common street performer or a gypsy.

Background: Varyl merrily sneaked away from her latest con job. She had just fooled a senile old baron into giving her enough coins to feed and clothe a family of five for six months.
As she was skipping back to her hideout, she heard loud andry shouts behind her. She twirled around to see the old baron and several armed men chasing after her. She smirked and stood poised like a cat until they were right upon her, at which time she threw her hand down and a great cloud of smoke exploded into the air.
While the small mob tried hopelessly to get out of the smog, Varyl sprinted away. She had nearly cleared the street when she spotted an odd cart. The witch who owned the cart claimed to sell objects of magic and power. Varyl knew her ways though, and was not so easily separated from her money.
"What do you have today, Glindle?" she asked with open glee and mockery.
Glindle replied with equal enthusiasm, "Oh, I these beautiful baubles! Does the pretty girl want a pretty bauble?"
Varyle chuckled. "It seems that you've mistaken me for a simple farm girl; I'm not interested in such wares. Now come, tell me what you really have there."
After a little goading, the witch relunctantly handed her a bundle. "You have to pay for it before you can see it."
Overcome by curiosity, Varyle consceeded. She paid the price and walked back to her home. There, she unwrapped the parcel.
Beneath the cloth lay a beautiful knife.

Name: Rio Defelice

Item: None

Gender: Mars

Age: 22

Personality: Rio is a quiet individual with a lot on his mind and without a coherent way to articulate these thoughts most of the time. Because of this deficiency he tends to be on the reserved side?not out of detachment, but out of uncertainty. When he does find the right words for his thoughts, he?ll say them clearly.

He can speak, but is better with the small talk rather than the deep issues that burden his mind.

The smile he wears is very deceiving. People think he?s a simpleton. But in his eyes lurk shadows and a wariness directed towards a group he dare not speak against.

Appearance: Rio stands at approximately 5?11?, and his agility is only helped by his long arms and legs. His hair is dark brown and uneven?giving the impression that he cut it himself with an old blade. He does what he can with it, but usually fails and lets it hang freely around his face, accenting his clear gray eyes

Background: IC

Time meant nothing to him. It was all just a blurred string of dreary days and hopeless nights that started with the harsh, knotted word uttered from the judge?s lips; ?guilty?. That single word haunted him more than the combined images of his fallen captain and the scornful looks of the townspeople as he was brought to trial.

He suffered, and in silence bore his fate.

?You?ve committed terrible crimes, haven?t you?? Asked a girl that stood just outside the bars-just beyond his shackled reach. ?Deceit. Treason. Murder.?

?No.? He heard a hoarse voice answer. His voice.

It was a lie. He had committed no crime.

?Then why are you here??

He had no answer. Instead of looking at the girl and her mocking smile he stared at his dirt-caked hands and scabbed wrists.

?You want to get out, don?t you??

?Yes.?

The creaking sound of a rusted gate opening caused him to look up. She stood there, hand held out in invitation. He felt as if he were witnessing an Angel, and the Angel was offering him a chance at heaven?s gates.

?Tell me, Mr. Convict. What is your name??

He closed his eyes; his name was something he had long forgotten. But behind those eyes he saw a river, wide and deep, and men laughing as they jumped naked into the flowing body of water.

?Rio.? He said, remembering what the word sounded like in the countries to the south. Then, in a touch of bitter humor, continued. ?Rio Defelice.?

"Then why can't there some rain instead..forget the sun.."
" No then the rain will drown the trees. The soil can't soak up water so much water...Without the sun to dry up the extra water the roots will surely drown. So much water can not be all soaking up by the soil. You know like when there is a be storm. The rain clouds block out the sun....the rain falls heavy upon us. Then crops get washed away. Trees fall because there roots can't hold anymore and fall on houses near. Everything turns to a big mess. Yet you must have all hope and faith that nature will balance itself..." Fay smiled at her sister
"Ohh.." Her sister looked up to the sun " Sorry sun please do you job..heat up the earth and soak up the rain.."
Fay father was looking at the window looking at his duaghters. He open the window and called for Fay

"Well they have choosen you for one of the items, My dear Fay.."
" Oh my...they must have made a mistake..I'm just a simple person. Read books and find meanings. Does sort of things"
" No Fay..you could so something. You speak as if though you lived upon this earth for centuries and decades. All about balance and nature..you always amaze me what comes out of you mouth...just so.." Her father said looking out the window seeing his other daughter play around in the sun. Fay stared down at her feet again.

Sorry this has taken so long to get started.....

Anyway, we have all the people we need and I've finally got some free time to start this thing! I will be posting "Betrayal of the Knife" in the Adventure Square.

The first order of business will be to get your character to the Hall of the High Council where they await orders.

If you have one of the items, you're there because you were summoned.

If you don't have an item, you showed up and the high council is eventually going to ask you why you came (so start thinking about that). Your reason is whatever you want... to help a friend, to accomplish something, to do a duty for your kingdom, whatever.

The knife has been sighted in a village on the outskirts of the kingdom... causing trouble maybe? You can either wait or have fun with that.
