Guest kuroinuyoukai
If someone were to give you a million dollars, what would you do with it? I would give a part to the church, I would give some to charity, and after giving some to my family I would go beg Rumiko Takahashi to write more Inuyasha !! I guess I cold give some to you guys too..maybe. :animesmil
IceRose
WOW, a million bucks. That is enough to pay for my coolege tuition but I would give it to the Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Wilma founds, they need it, I mean I'm from Florida and luckily I moved before I could get trapped by the hurricane. Sara
That is a lot of money. I can't imagine what I would do with it, because even breaking it down, the numbers are huge and unrealistic. But, hey. Hypothetical question, right? If it were given to me, I would probably give half away, straight out. I can't imagine what I would use that much money for! And I have a habit of giving things away. Between presents, charity, church, my favorite non-profits, and setting up a scholarship for cool people, I think I'd be pretty happy with that. Obviously, it wouldn't all go POOF! at the same time, but it would be set aside for such things. Of the remaining money--$500,000! I would set aside a good chunk--say, $100,000--for traveling. Study abroad, partly, and just having money to go cool places, and maybe treat some of my family and friends. $400,000 left to think about. I would put aside enough to buy a nice house and a nice bit of land in an inexpensive area. Say that's $250,000 including (perhaps quite a bit) extra put aside for keeping the house up. $150,000... I can't even think of what I would do with the money at this point. Set it aside, I suppose, for when I wanted to buy things for myself, or use it as the proverbial "nest-egg." Yeah. That's a lot of money, and I don't really need anything, heh.
Your Mother
If someone was stupid enough to give me a million dollars, I'd be sure to spend it before the IRS found out. They'd probably aim for 2/3 of the money.
Panda
Oh how I wish someone would give me a bunch of money. I would first pay off my all my bills...you know -- the mortgage to my house, all those credit card bills and the odds and ends of monthly bills. I would then give some money to my family for their bills. I would take a portion and invest it, Roth IRA, put it into a savings account to build up some intrest so it could later become a form of income. Sheesh, paying bills and investing sounds a bit lame and "responsible". I definately need to have some fun. I would travel to all the places I've wanted to go. Japan to visit family and friends for sure. Go see friends I have made on theO all around the world. Stalk Shinmaru properly. Buy all those mega expensive anime books that cost an arm and leg at anime conventions and finish buying all those manga series I started. After all that I should pretty much have nothing left. No extra money but no debt. That would rock.
Shy
Build a giant money bin, and swim around in it, Yup. I'd pay off my credit card bills. my car and my family's house first. Beyond that, I'm still left with a good half... hm... money... One thing I'd love to do is get into self-publishing, and create a magazine, or something nifty like that. I feel like publications as a whole still have a lot of potential in them, the problem is the format and the content. More importantly, I feel like there aren't enough avenues for up-and-coming writers to get their worked published, so maybe I could do something about that, Traveling is a must. An 'OtakuBoards World Tour' is definitely not out of the question, especially since so many OB-ers live in exciting locales. Of course, I could probably start by visiting Shinmaru, who goes to school like five feet from my house... go figure. Having a large amount of cash would help me live out my goals of living out of California, and eventually, out of the country. Beyond those, I'd try to make the money last as long as I could. I realize that a million dollars is an ungodly amount of money, but it's not exactly the type of thing a 20 year old can retire with. If anything, this would help me in helping myself, and my loved ones, live comfortably. I'd still be working a few days a week, and I'd still be as cheap as I ever was. -Shy
DarkDragon
Cool a million dollars! celestialcharm
First, I'd give some to pay off my older sisters' university, and pay off their OSAP. Then, I'd save some to pay for my brother's univeristy education, and mine. I'd save some to pay for my school trip to France and Spain. I'd give some money to my parents because they're on sick leave. They could use the money to pay off bills, and for whatever else. I'd also use it to buy out my neighbour's house because I live in a semi-detached house. Then, I'd renovate them and make an the ultimate house, so we all can have our own rooms! (I share with my two older sisters when they come home from school.) The rest of the money I have, I'd use to buy a DDR machine, a PS2 and put the rest to collect interest in the bank. BUT, another thing that is a must, is that I'd pay to get my driver's liscence and I'd pay for my brother's too!
Sage Kaley
Wow it'd be nice to have so much. I suppose I'd help out my family first...and my college. Get all that out of the way. I'd buy my friends something nice too and there would definitely be some traveling in there. Grab a few people and just go see the world. That sounds so exciting. I would want to give away some to help people but...I'm not sure which disaster to give to anymore. I'll just try to split some for everyone I guess. And then save enough to have a nice house someday, throw all that in the bank. Nothing too exciting really ^^ I think I would probably pay someone off to draw a manga for me though. Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. If someone were to give me a million dollars, the first thing I'd do would be to convert it to euro and bemoan the fact that I'm not a millionaire anymore. Honestly though, the first thing I'd do is clear all my parent's debts so that they could actually enjoy their paycheques without having massive lumps taken out of them each month. After that I'd buy my dad the new car he's been looking for for the year or two, as a way of thanking him for always bringing me where I need to go. I'd say that's probably ?110,000 altogether given that car prices in Ireland are absolutely outrageous. Next I'd knock down our current house, which being over a one hundred and fifty years old is a maintenance nightmare and rebuild it about thirty metres back as to give us a nice driveway and a long front garden. The rebuilt house would be big enough for six people but not too big as to make it seem overly large, just comfortable if you know what I mean. Having lived in a house that's a heating nightmare I'd use a lot of the new insulating methods to try and keep as much heat within the house as possible. I'd also go for a contemporary but not outlandish design, something that wouldn't look out of place in the countryside. That's probably ?360,000 of the ?825,000 windfall gone between the debts and the new house which leaves ?465,000 to cover my own and my siblings future education, a nice holiday home for my parents for when they want to retire and a nest egg put away for the future. I?d probably donate some money to my local church as well as some Irish charities for the homeless but I?d like to make sure my own family has their needs taken care of before I?d start giving handouts to others. I don?t mean that to sound callous but my parents have worked very hard and if I could solve all their problems at the expense of donations to charity well I?d do it in a heartbeat.
Mimmsicle
Honestly though, the first thing I'd do is clear all my parent's debts so that they could actually enjoy their paycheques without having massive lumps taken out of them each month.
Wow, it's not often you hear someone say the exact same thing you've been thinking of yourself (at least when it comes to the subject of getting an as--- hrm, a very large sum of money). It's heartwarming to hear that others would look after their families/others in need, as well. Especially since some express it so sincerely. But even after tending to other people's financial needs, there should still be some money left. Here's where all the material wishes begin. Fun fun! I'd think real hard about what my siblings and parents would be absolutely thrilled about getting (that lands in the same approximate prince range so no one feels slighted) buy it for them and feel completely unashamed about spending the rest on myself. Actually.... A huge list of things to do and buy isn't too hard to compose, so I'll share an idea that struck me while thinking about what to spend my million bucks on: I [unfortunately] got sick of school before getting any kind of proper education that lends itself to a career(not that it's ever been on my mind to have the kind of career spelled out in big, shiny, Hollywood letters), which is something the world regards very highly and question why you haven't aqcuired or aren't persuing. Sure, it probably gives off the impression that you're a lazy bum who aren't taking charge of your life and living it to the fullest. But then again, some feel fulfilled with very little. Anyway, I'd use the money to search out a school with an education that would give me a diploma/degree in a field I'm passionate about. Preferably something to do with language that could be used in a broader field of work - no pigeonholing me for a narrow job market, thank you. This little dream also demands it take place in another country, since it always helps to be surrounded by the tongue you're trying to embrace. And that would require either a life filled with mortgages or the gift of one million dollars :catgirl:
Glittery_Itachi
I would save it and then start my buisness with it. I wanna open a vet/shelter so good money use there.
TheShinje
I would get myself a nice house, flash sports car, and start a business in the Graphic design industy. Anything left over would be squandered on amenities, stereos, big screen TV's and pizza! I'd like to give a little to charity, but I don't have a charitable bone in my body. Besides, if I was given that amount of money, then I wouldn't dream of giving it away, that would be...insulting to the original giver. :animeshy:
Veritas
Hmmmm what would I do, what would I do........... Well first of all I would give some to my mom to get out of debt, and maybe to buy a house or condo. Next I'd most likely re-***** my wardrobe, shoes and all. I would probably go buy a whole bunch of CD's, anime, and video games after that. Then I would buy a 04' or 05' WRX Sti (pimp it out too), and a Ducati bullet bike. Then I would put the rest into the bank to gain intrest. Yup, thats what I'd do, oh ya and I would design my own dream room and make it my real room.
Endymion
$1,000,000 is quite a bit of money. I would first pay off my car, and finish my parents' house's construction. I would also pay for my sister's schooling to be an Obstetrician or something like that(after she finishes her degree at the French Culinary Institute). I'd invest a good amount, maybe 50k, for my brother when he's ready for college. Might put the rest in an off-shore account, since the FDIC only ensures up to 100k. The interest off of whatever's left would be a nice addition to my normal bank account.
Outlaw
You ever see that movie 'Blank Check'? I would basically do exactly what he did. You know, buy the giant castle house inexplicably in the middle of the suburbs, and turn the back yard into my own amusement park. And I can only hope to get into some crazy home alone style antics with some misfit crooks. And by the end, I will lose everything, but gain a valuable lesson about the value of money and family. But seriously, I think I would invest most of it for now, since my college education is already full payed for, and I really don't need that much money right now. I figure it will be allot more useful later in life.

I mean I've got what's probably my whole life ahead of me, where as they're in their mid and late forties so they're only ten or fifteen years away from retiring, so being able to clear all their debts before then is something I can only hope I'd be able to do for them. wayofthreversed
If I had $1,000,000 I would buy myself a piece of land thatis fairly large but not too big mybe 20 acers or somthing then I would build a 4 room house (1 kitchen, 2 bedrooms, and a bathroom) then use the rest of th money to just live there without having to work. Remadi
First thing I'd do would be to pay of my student loans. Then I'd probably buy some land a bit away from the city for my parents with a comfortable house (including a permanent room for me) and a nice barn so we could move my horse there and possibly buy another horse for my mom (and to keep Sky company.) I would then buy either the Mau cat I want, or a puppy, because I could now afford to keep it. I would use some more to visit family and friends around the world and also for my study abroad plans. I would probably donate some to the SPCA and possibly a human organization. After buying all the manga and anime I've been wanting and presents for my family and close friends, I would probably put half of the remaining amount in a bank account to use as is needed (for rent and food and fun stuff) and the other half I would invest, hiring someone who is far more knowledgable about these things than I to take care of it. I'm not known for saving, so most of it would probably be gone fairly quickly, but that's what money is there for. XD
