Box Hoy
There's been alot of these threads springing up lately so I thought I'd bring this one up. If you have a job or career what is it. What do you do and how do you like it? I work at Domino's Pizza. I guess it's alright. It's like the McDonalds of the pizza industry really. Ever other day there's a new person working there. Ok, so that was exaggerated but oh well. It's not an enviroment where you can easily mantain customer service however. You can get easily stressed and considering the n00b factor where there are new employees all the time, you're lucky to find a time where something doesn't mess up. There's fast food for ya. visualkei
whoa, I just looked at your avatar, and it kinda creeped me out. lol. As for me, I'm a teacher's assistant at an elementary after school program. But in reality I'm kind of a teacher because I actually run my own class and don't really assist anybody... So me and my coworkers who are all college students don't really get much respect from the kids because we're not exactly teachers, I can pass for a 16 or 17 yr old, and it's an afterschool program where they're supposed to have "fun." It's all informal, and hectic half the time because we're often running around keeping order. I enjoy the Kindergarteners and 1st graders the most. They're funny. So how much do pizza delivery guys make, do you know?
Veritas
I work at Finish Line as a Sales Associate. It's an athletic shoe store, kind of like Foot Locker, though we don't where Ref Unis and I think we have a bit more variety of shoes. Foot Locker just seems to get like one style of shoes in 10 colors instead of 10 different shoes. Maybe it is more like a Foot Action, but I've never been to one. But ya it's nothing to fancy but I like it, though I've become addicted to shoes.
Raiyuu
I work at Domino's Pizza.
Domino's Pizza poisoned my flatmate. I blame you, I guess. :p I work as a lighting tech in my university's student union. That means once a week I set up and run the lights for whatever club night the union's putting on. Work usually starts at 3 or 4 in the afternoon (hanging lights, focusing, setting up chases on the lighting board) and then we have to strike everything once the night's over, so I typically leave at about 3 in the morning. Long shifts and late nights, but it's only once a week, and the pay's pretty awesome. I can make about £60 in a night, and if you disregard my accomodation fees, I can comfortably live on that.
SaiyanPrincessX
Dominio's and Papa Johns are my favorite pizza places. Though I don't eat pizza much. I work at Collector Unlimited at my mall. Its a small store with large and small figururines, and other collectables. I really can't say much about it because I've only worked there twice so far. Its a peaceful atmoshpere though, so its nice. The other employees are real nice too.
Bloodseeker
I used to work at Jack and the Box, but I quit after the manager gave the "you're that face of the company" speech and tried to send me home (meaning that I would have clocked in so late that I wouldn't have gotten paid for the day) over having a little bit of dirt on my pants. I don't like the fast food industry... I hear that its one of the worst fields that you can into. The pay's really low, there's no tips, the work can get complicated when the restaurant gets busy, its definitely not fun, the management sucks (I hear that's a constant one in the fast food industry, more so than in regular retail)... meh. I think that I'm better off looking elsewhere for work. Unfortunately, restaurants and family businesses are pretty much all that my town has. I need to get a driver's license so that I can get to the neighboring city before I start my job search again.
r2vq
I work at Boston Pizza. In the United States it's just called Boston's. Apparently it's actually a Canadian company from somewhere in the Praries... and we have a lot more than Pizza. I only just started... finished my first week yesterday. ^^ Hopefully I don't get fire too quickly. xD It's a fun job, I really like it, and the tips are great. Though it's stil a challenge and I need to get a lot better. -ArV
Doukeshi
I work at Matalan. Its a discount clothing store, though I don't think anyone outside of the UK will have heard of it. I've worked their for just over 3 years now, it can be quite tiring and boring I guess but I just love the people I work with. For some reason we all just form this big family even though we get new starters all the time (especially now seeing as its christmas temp time). Its cool.
Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. Currently I'm reassessing my employment options, which is basically a fancy way of saying that I'm between jobs at the moment. Since I'm heading back to finish High School in a couple of months I'm happy to work odd-jobs and just make some money without getting into a set arrangement that I can't break off if needs be. I'm still living with my family, so having to rake in enough for rent is something I can thankfully avoid, though it does mean when I'm not working I'm basically a maid in the house. My dad works for the Irish branch of Guidant and he's been politely hinting at me to send in an application to them so I can at least get a shot at a good paying job with some nice benefits. Honestly I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to send them in a CV, but the way things are working at the moment I'm happier to just continue the way I'm working at the moment so I can focus on my studies and not get roped into working in Guidant for the next five years. Yet again I've managed to waffle my way through a simple question, so I'll just be kind for once and give it a simple answer: I work as a male-maid at home and work with my uncle on his farm next door whenever he needs a hand.
SunfallE
Well I was working as a Semi Truck driver, but I kept needing to be close to home as I have other responsibilities that demand my attention. So I finally threw in the towel so to speak and got myself another job so I can be at home like I need to be. So now I?m working for the United States Postal Service. I don?t deliver mail, but instead work in the research and customer service department. Which means I?m currently being trained and still have another three weeks to go. It is nice to have a more regular schedule again. ^_^ What?s really ironic is that the government requires you to be fingerprinted and have a background check just so you can look up people?s address information in their database. Seems like overkill to me, as most of the information is available online. >_< What?s even more ironic is that you even get your driving record checked. I could understand if you were going to drive one of their trucks, but to sit on your butt and use their database? I guess the best part is that since it is a government job at least I don?t have to worry about them outsourcing the job to some other country. I really detest the ?outsourcing benefits the American people garbage.? All I?ve ever seen it do is line the pockets of greedy corporations. Oh well. At least it?s a job right? ^_~
Noodle
Me, I work at a local Alt. rock radio station(107.7 The End.part-time Mon, Wed, and Fri, full time on Sat)I dont really know what I actually do there(friend who maintains the equipment got me a job there.I usually just help him or organize crap) Pay is HORRIBLE, but that's cause all I do is annoy the crap out of everyone. It is really cool, cause Jeniffer White and DJ No Name(the morning peoples) are now trying to get Bill Gates to come into the station for whats called the Thursday Music challenge...good times, good times....I'll get fired in a month, you just wait....
botoman
I work at a sushi restuarant called Genki Sushi as kitchen help. Genki Sushi is a kaiten sushi restuarant (the one with the conveyor belt) and I usually work the belt making nigiri sushi and putting it on the belt. It's a pretty hard job with a lot of BS thrown in from the bosses, but it's okay because my coworkers are super kool.
Panda
Noodle, you rock. The End is a great station and is the one I set my car stereo to when I am on the west side of the state. Poor me, eastern Washingtonian here...land of country music. :animecry: By trade I am a vet tech, you know, an animal nurse. I absolutely loved working with all the different animals. It is a great feeling knowing that my work improved the lives of animals. I monitored surgeries, did dental cleanings, gave medications and injections and, my very favorite, helped with c-sections. I loved being there to help bring little ones into this world. Unfortunately after 7 years of work I had to retire from that career due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Currently I am in the process of attaining my second career as a writer. Since I am working as a freelance writer I don't work for any particular company per se. I have done work for Harmony Gold transcripting anime episodes, ADV films as an anime screener and my story has been published in Arthritis Today. The only work I do that I consider full time is here on theOtaku.com network. But truth be know I actually have the overworked, underpaid and underappreciated job of being a housewife. At least the commute to work is quick. :p
Petie
I'm currently employed at GameStop. I say employed and not working because I haven't actually started yet. I applied like a year and a half ago when they first opened and I was hired as a temporary holiday Game Adviser a couple of weeks ago. They are looking to keep one of the temporary people on after the holiday though and luckily, one of the employees I know pretty well there said he'd talk to the manager about me being that person. And because he's moving to a different store soon, that opens up two spots. Pay is minimum wage but I can't complain. It's my first real job and I'm really just getting paid to talk about video games with people. My main job is customer service which isn't bad. I just hope I'm able to stay on after Christmas. Come to think of it though, I do wonder when I'll be starting. The manager said that training starts in November so it should be some time soon. Oh, and if you haven't heard of GameStop, they recently bought EB Games so it's all one big company now.
