Anime On complex Anime

Hmmm....
Anime is not just for simple entertainment, it is also for conveying messages the creator wants to impart to us. But why is it that some like to create anime that have too complex a story for some anime fanatics to understand?

Anime is just a medium with a very large audience. Chances are, at least one of us fans will figure out what they're trying to broadcast. And as long as they think somebody out there will get it, they'll keep on producing such anime. That's what I think.[/SIZE][/COLOR]

Evangelion is one, it has such a complex story that if most people read too much into it they loss interest very fast. I personally love it because it's so complex but some people don't get it at all, another anime that is complex is Kino's joureny which i think was made that way. Kino's journey is so complex that most of the morals in the story are very hard to understand, but it is it's complexity that make it interesting.

I understand every anime that i watch, even the weird ones like Serial Experiments Lain. I honestly don't find any anime that i watch to be "too hard to understand". I even love to watching the confusing ones, because the stories are often very beautiful. But no, i can't say that i've seen one anime yet that i dont understand.

I guess that I didn't really understand Tenchi, but when I watched it I was like 7 years old so that may be the reason ... apart from that I believe i've understood all of the rest. :)

Frankly I don't see the point of your question. If all anime was simple and uninvolving, then the fanbase would be a good deal smaller. It would all be 'Pokemon', to choose an obvious example.

Variety in a genre is - broadly speaking - a good thing. Those who know anime know well enough that it is not all about giant robots, magical girls (yes, those cliches, add your own...). Anime is an artform which is very versatile, it can be used in many different ways.

The same studio (GAINAX, I mean) made FLCL as made 'Neon Genesis Evangelion'. The latter, by the way, is an anime which can be enjoyed on different levels. My brother likes it on the 'giant robots fighting' level, whereas I'm far more interested in its philosophical/psychological side. (That's not to say, before I sound too pretentious, that I don't cheer on some mecha fight action.)

It doesn't take great complexity to get something - more then one thing, out of an anime. I found the sheer bizarre humour of 'Azumanga Daioh' a welcome relief after watching the throughly depressing, but gripping 'Noir' in the same evening. I enjoyed 'Fruits Basket' as much for its comedy as I did for its melodrama.

Almost all media conveys some 'point', depending on how one interprets it. There's a difference, however, between what those watching/reading something get out of a piece, and how much was put in by the creators intentionally to provoke a certain reaction/interpretation.

To claim there is anime which is 'too' hard for people to understand is generalising both anime programmes, and people's level of understanding.
