Javen watched as the rest of the orcs were taken care of. "Can't the twon militia do anything right." He drew his long katana and decapitated two orcs. As things settled down he mounted his horse. "Ruby you got a horse cause if you don't then I will by you one" He looke around as pikemen came in and killed the last orcs. "Well now that everything is back to normal we can continue on our way." He waited for the rest to mount their horses.

Kalysta came too a little while before all of the orcs had left. She stood up, brushed off all of the dirt. She walked into the tavern, slung the quiver full of Elven arrows over her shoulder, walked back outside, and mounted the white mare that she had rode up here. They all looked at her like she had done something unspeakable.

"What?" She asked impatiently. The others just coughed and turned away. Do you want me to admit that I am weak without my weapons? "Fine. I'm sorry for being stuck up," she inwardly cringed at her vocabulary. Haughty, arrogant, snide...stuck up? "I am sorry."

Ruby was still fighting towards the elf that was unconscious when Javen and the town militia started showing up. The orc left the elf and instead attempted to escape. Ruby cleaned up his sword and walked back over to the tavern where the other three were. He left the elf lying on the ground. She was uninjured and didn?t need his help.

?Ruby, you got a horse? Cause if you don?t then I will buy you one.? Javen said.

Ruby grinned. ?No mercenary ever goes anywhere without a horse. It?ll only take me a minute to go get my stuff.?

He walked into the stable, quickly prepared his horse and walked into the inn to grab a few things. He came back out and fastened his packs to the horse before walking out with him to where the others were.

Once outside he quickly mounted and then sat there with the others while they waited on the elf to retrieve her bow and arrows.

When she came back out Ruby couldn?t help but smirk a bit. Sure she may be good with a bow,he thought but take that away and she's weak. Admittedly elves weren?t as strong as humans, but it was obvious she didn?t have any training in hand to hand combat. Well, at least not very much anyway.

She look at all of them and finally said, ?What!??

He looked away and coughed a bit to hide the fact that he was snickering a bit.

?Fine!? He heard her say, ?I?m sorry for being stuck up.?

Ruby just turned to see what Javen wanted them to do.

Sashanea hid a small smirk as she leaned over slightly to whisper a word to Ruby. "I caught that..." Surprisingly. There was no need to reply; she said it purely in small jest. 'A mercenary huh? Interesting...' she thought.

Diverting attention back to what was going on she shifted her weight on the horse a bit, eager to be moving again. In spite of everything she was having a bit of a joy moment thinking about all the change in scenery. "Where are we headed?"

"To find the sword" He pulled out a piece of paper with wierd writing on it. "It isn't elvish so i don't know what it is"

"You can read elvish?" The two elves looked surprised since only a hand full of humans actually tried to learn how to speak it and some didn't even get it.

"I can write it too. But I can't make heads or tails of that" He got the horse to go as the party moved out. "I guess we should start by checking Darkwood forest"

"Darkwood forest...I remember some human child saying something about it." She put on a childish voice and immitated him perfectly. "'It was so dark, and scary. I don't ever want to see that place again.' Hmm...if it were true that he actually survived going through it, it'd have been a miracle."

"So you're saying you have no confidence in humans making it through the forest, do you?" Ruby asked, slightly accusitory.

"No, it's not that. I just don't think the kid got through by himself. He must've had someone, like an adult, with him." She didn't smile, but her voice was light-hearted. That's the first time she had shown emotion in her voice. Sometimes I wonder if I'm suited for staying like this forever.

"Stop all the childish bickering," she warned generally with a smile. "We are basically stuck with each other in a sense for a good while, best to make the most of it." She finished absently, unaware really what she was saying.

Sahanea was thrilled at the thought of finally getting to explore Darkwood forest, all danger aside. "I have been there once, decades ago. I must agree with Kalysta." The group looked at her like What the hell were you doing there? "I did not acually go in there...but I really wanted to. I saw something and anxiously wanted to check it out. That plan did not work well."

Javen smiled as the entrance came into view. The path ahead got varker and darker the further they went in. "Well looks like you get to now. I have been through it once before. Ain't the nicest of places, just stay on the path and nothing will get you" After about an hour of riding they came across a guy waited.

"Javen nice to see you again. I take it you got the paper"

Javen handed it ovber as they guy read it and laughed.

"Sucks to be you. The way you need to take is the left fork"

They contined till when the path forked. One was the normal path and the other was a small trail. "Great, I knew we wouldn't be able to stay on the path. Anyone staying behiind

Ruby had been near the Darkwood forest but he had never entered it. He would have preferred to avoid it, but it would be interesting to actually explore it. The others seemed indifferent but Sahanea actually seemed excited to enter the forest.

Javen seemed to be well prepared as there was someone waiting for them inside the forest. He gave them instructions before they continued on their way. When it came time to follow the instructions he was not surprised that they were for a trail off the main path.

?Well Javen care to guess what can get us since we won?t be staying on the main path?? Ruby grinned. ?I know that I for one will not be staying behind.?

Javen just smiled and said. ?I wouldn?t want to spoil the surprise. You?ll see soon enough what lurks within the darkness among the trees.?

Ruby waited to see if the others were going to continue on the journey as well.

Javen held up his hand as the party stopped.

Kal stopped beside him. "You hear it too"

"Get and arrow ready." She got one ready and Javen aimed off to one side. "Let go now" The arrow flew as a panther looking creature jumped out fo the forest. It cought it square in the throat and fell to the ground dead. "Kalsin. Vicious things. Just some of the things we face" They came into a clearing were the light was dim because of the tree leaves above them. Suddenly red eyes appeared at teh edge and the became surrounded by kalsins. "Great, we caem across their den" He kicked one of the piles of bones around them

"Hm...bad thing?" Sashanea blurted out while looking at the bones.
"Yes," was the reply she got from Javen.
"I supose it would be rude to just stand here then." She drew her weapon and turned around to cover behind the party since she was in the back. The elf stood ready, waiting for one of the Kalsins to make its move. It complied, and she was happy to oblige.

Kalysta drew an arrow from the quiver. She pulled back on it, taking aim at one of the Kalsins. One had jumped from its perch on the tree and she loosed the arrow. Javen, Ruby, and Sashanea were slashing about three at a time. More kept showing up. Other than that though, everyone was doing fine, except for some scratches here and there.

"If they would just stay back. You'd think they'd learn." She bitterly shot down two. Their red eyes died to white and their coats immediatly lost their sheen. Beautiful, yet vicious creatures. Attack anything that come within range of them. You could say that they were well fed animals.

Blood poured from slain Kalsins, red seeping into the forest floor. One of the dead animals was nailed to a tree by two of her arrows. She smirked malicously. More were on their way.

A Kalsin jumped at Suzu but he sliced cutting it in half. More just kept coming with the use of only one arm. He slashed dropping a few. They had to get out somehow.
But how?

"Over there" Suzu pointed.

They sent off in that direction but Kalsins filed their escape route.

"Uh oh" Suzu muttered.

He one of the elf's arrows

"Hey!" She exclaimed.

He threw it killing a Kalsin that was about to rip her head off.

"Your welcome" Suzu said.

Judas stretched as the men around him spared, he had been through three spars already, and was now taking a much deserved break. A scout approched him, "Sir, we just got word that a town was attacked by an orc warband not to long ago, the were lead by some strange riders in black." Judas nodded, "Are they still at large?" The scout shook his head, "No sir, reports say they were distroyed by a group of four sir." Judas let the man leave, Four soldiers against a band of orcs? Well thats not an every day occurance. he thought. He looked around him, there were a few other units in the area, it was strange that an orc band could have gotten to a town without somebody knowing about it and alerting the other units. "Rider." He called a soldier to his side, "Yes sir?" Judas scratched his chin, "Gather up a few others and go refer this info to the other units. A town was reported to have been attacked by an ork band, be on the look out for more attacks, widen scout ranges." The rider nodded and rushed away to gather more messengers.

Kalsin? Ruby thought. Well they certainly die easily enough. In fact a little too easy. He looked around expecting something else; his instincts were telling him that the blood they were spilling would attract other inhabitants of the forest.

?Javen? He started to say.

?I know, we need to get moving as soon as we can? Javen replied.

Ruby continued to dispatch the Kalsins that attacked, he had killed so many and yet they just kept on coming. Just how many of them are there? He wondered. Everyone was doing well but for how long? Ruby was starting to feel nervous. He wanted to finish and put some distance between him and the corpses of the slain Kalsin. He didn?t want to hang around to see what would come to scavenge the dead. Once again a Kalsin attacked and once again Ruby cut it in half before it hit the ground. Another one advanced and he raised his sword to strike again.

Javen frowned. "This pack is larger then normal"

"You fought one of these before?"

"With a small band of mercenaries. About the size of our group" Slowly the Kalsin thinned out till there were now more. "That's better" He sat down as the moon came out. Kal leaned against a stone door as it began to shine making her jump away. Javen walked over to it and read the inscription. "Elvish. Beware the darkness that lies within. Dnager lies at every turn. That doesn't sound too promising"

"No, but promising isn't something that we're up to, huh?" Kalysta moved towards the door and Javen and read it herself. "The one who engraved this had great calligraphy work." She traced it with her fingertips. The stone barrier shook slightly but didn't move. She retracted her hand in a lightly closed fist to her chest.

"Moria," she breathed. This was not the mines, but it did remind her terribly of them. Horrifying stories were told to her, and they did scare her and gave her nightmares. Sometimes to this day, she'd wake, drenched in a cold sweat. She no longer screamed in fear though.

"What?" Kalysta looked at Javen.

"Nothing... Say it in Elvish." He nodded.

"Mablung taurnil, tîwele celahir telrúnya."

Lovely. Ruby thought. He could read the inscription just fine, though he sure as hell wasn?t about to tell anyone. Last thing he wanted was for the two elves to realize he understood their language just fine. He sighed. He had wanted to come to look for the Scion but he didn?t feel to keen on exploring an underground passage that the elves themselves had warned was dangerous. They were usually quite accurate in their warnings.

One of these days your curiosity will be the better of you. His inner conscious nagged. Oh shut up, he thought back at it. Sure he was like that. It was part of what started him on the path of being a mercenary; he wanted to know what war was like. Well that and other reasons as well.

Ruby ignored what the others were doing to a certain extent and focused on keeping watch for other predators that might be attracted by the blood spilled when they had killed the Kalsin. Whether they went in the door or continued on their way someone had to keep watch. He sighed inwardly, knowing his luck they would be going though the door, but then if the Scion were so easily found they wouldn?t be looking for it, as someone else would have found it already. "If we travel in a straight line, there would be no turns to find danger behind," Sashanea said lightly as sure enough the door slowly slid to one side before catching beyond sight. She got a couple of looks, but wasn't paying attention. Damn, it was dark in there. The elf looked back at the forest, then at the now open passage.

More then likely there was much greater danger than a pack of Kalsins or most other predetors that could be found in Darkwood. Expecially with a warning like that. "Dark, scarey, high death possibility, I vote that we continue."

Kalysta smirked vividly.

"Danger is your middle name, huh Sasha?" She looked at the winding dark tunnel. I'm just cautious that's all. Taking a deep breath, Kalysta turned to Javen, still able to see Suzu, Ruby, and Sashanea.

"We stand about the same chance here in the forest as we do in the tunnel. Shall we?" She said holding an arm out in the direction of the opening.

Javen walked forward into the tunnel slowly feeling his way around in the darkness. This wasn't good they couldn't see a thing. Suddenly a light came on from the back as Ruby stood holding a torch.

"Always keep a flint handy" He handed the torch to Javen as they contined down the tunnel the dim light making the shadows dance.

The tunnel opened into a large cavern as bones and armor littered the floor. "Not good" He saw a huge skeleton in the corner. "Cave troll. Not the best thing to fight in their own territory" Suddenly a large figure emerged from the darkness, its skin dark and its eyes black as night. "Speaking of trolls"

"You are not the first to say that," Sahanea smiled at Kalysta. "I do not keep a middle name though."

She looked up at the cave troll, one hand on the hilt of her sword. It looked heavy, but those appearances were deciving. "So we blind it."

"What?" the kid piped up from the one side of the group.

"These things are not often seen above ground, nevermind for long periods of time except for hunting during a dull season or in a naturally dark enviorment. Hence a sensitivity to the sun and bright sources of light. How strong, I do not know."

Ruby handed the torch to Javen and followed as they started to explore the tunnel. When they entered the large cavern filled with bones and armor he was careful to avoid stepping on anything that would make noise.

It made no difference, as there was already a Troll there as it immediately stepped into the light. When Sahanea talked about blinding it Ruby smiled to himself. He reached into one of his pouches and tossed a small item among the dry brittle bones. He pulled his sword free of its sheath.

It had been awhile since he had run into a Troll. They looked clumsy and slow, but they were surprisingly quick. Ruby grabbed a torch from a sconce in the wall with his free hand and reached over to light it from the torch Javen was holding. He waited for the others or the Troll to make the first move. When the time was right he would throw the torch into the dry brittle bones with the item he had just placed there.

The others would understand and shield their eyes, the Troll on the other hand would be blinded by the sudden flash, giving them time to move in and finish it off. Ruby waited for the moment to strike.

She watched carefully, unknowing to how the beast was going to react. It was one of those times that all she had was diviant information and her bow and arrows to help her. At least she had friends that could aide her and she could aide them.

"Who volenteers?" Javen asked, trying to lighten up what mood they all had. Kalysta drew an arrow from her quiver, inserting it into her bow as an answer for him. She aimed carefully, a miss from her target would send the beast into a rage, with both eyes to lead him. Then another thought occured to her. She pushed it away, concentrating on her task.

"Wait, Kalysta," Sashanea whispered, urgency in her voice.

"Yes, I know. We'll raise the question when we get a chance." She looked at Ruby, Javen, and Suzu. All three waiting, biding their time for the fight about to commence. She turned back to her target, loosing the arrow with a twang! She held her breath when she saw the elven arrow clash into the soft spot of its chest.

"Someone get a light!" Sashanea yelled, her voice echoing off the carvern's walls. Kalysta watch almost blind horror as her arrow's pain traveled slowly to the trolls small brain, the echoes getting to him. Suzu lit something, a bight red and orange glow filled the underground passage. Kalysta did not mention that even if the beast was blind, he could still smell each of them.

Javen watched in horror as the troll picked up a rock. "Shit" Javen knocked Kalysta and Sashanea aside as the troll threw the rock at her and pinned him up against the wall. "Now, Ruby" He watched as Ruby jumped on the troll's back and stabbed it in the spine then Kalysta shot an arrow in it's throat. It fell to the ground as Sashanea stabbed it in the head killing it. The group came over and surrounded Javen.

"You okay?" Kalyasta asked as they went to move the boulder but found it too heavy.

"It is no use, the rock has crushed my entire left side and i can't move. You will have to go without me"

"But we can't just..."

"Yes you can dammit. You have to find the sword without me"

"But you are the one..."

"Here" He handed a sheet over with a map on it. It showed a path through the cave then out through the rest of the forest. it went over a desert and a marsh then stopped at a temple. "Ruby will lead you. You will go by the battlefield, find a man there named Judas. Tell him Javen sent you and he will help you out on the rest of your journey...." Javen found it hard to breathe. "I do not want a single tear shed over me. you will find the sword. Vanquish...ahh...the enemy" He handed Ruby the map. "Anotehr thing. Sashanea.....Kalysta... You two have got to be the kindest, smartest, and hottest elves i have ever seen. Don't change and don't get yourselves killed or I will have to kill you again in the afterworld. you best not die either Ruby and Suzu. Take care"

"But.."

"Now get out of here, before it gets any more emtional" He watched them leave outof the cave and into the forest.
