Well, here goes, folks. It's 10:25 PM EST, and I just finished my image. After a total time of four hours working on this baby, there's not much to show for my toil. I hope you enjoy it. Decypher your own meaning for it; it'll mean more, then. I'd like to shout out to all those who helped me critique - Reiku, Imi, Generic NPC #3, Stuie, you all rock. Thank you so much.

Good luck, to you Baron. I'm pretty damn nervous, facing you and all, though.

I want to vote for Retribution and I will tell you why.

Retribution-First of all, the black and white photos used I liked very much and their arrangement was very pleasing to my eye.My eyes were drawn to the little details like the signs around the theatre and people walking around the theatre. The pic of the theatre made me feel as though I was looking at the theatre itself through a window . I felt that Retribution's pic had a sense of class and nostalgia to it. Very nice pic, nice arrangement and well executed.

Baron- Even though I like the picture you used- I feel,in my opinion, that your submission lacks originality. To me it seems that you photoshopped a picture and threw some text on it. I really don't see much difference between the original and yours.Sorry.

Retribution: I really like the old styled look of black and white with just the tiniest hint of color. It gives it a very old fashioned look as Broadway has been around for so long. The only thing I don?t care for is the space on the top. Since there are letters in the bottom it makes the space on top seem like it?s a bit off.

Baron Samedi: I actually think your piece is put together a little bit better. But the font of the side words are a tiny bit hard for me to read. Overall it gives a nice appearance of acting, but it doesn?t really make me think of Broadway.

Now for the hard part. I actually like Baron Samedi?s piece a little better, but I?m giving my vote to Retribution as I feel their piece captures the theme of Broadway just a tiny bit better. It?s very nostalgic and it immediately grabbed my attention. So Retribution gets my vote for this round.

Retribution: I love this picture. I would hang it on my wall if I cared about Broadway. It's busy, it's noisy, but at the same time it's simple and clean. The only thing I don't like is the center column with "BROADWAY" written three times. It doesn't seem to match with the other two columns.

Baron Samedi: When I scrolled down and saw your image, I was struck with how nice it is. On closer inspection I noticed the 'hidden' words and appreciated it more and more. The dazzling background is wonderful, and the splash of colour on the man is teasing. The fonts you used and the words give me another side of Broadway.

To this moment I still haven't decided...
I really, really like them both.

I'll have to stick with the first one. For its simplicity, I go with Retribution.

Baron Samedi gets my vote.

I must say, Retribution did a nice job on this one, but it didn?t catch my attention at all. The theme Broadway was in the picture alright, but without any deeper meaning to it. Just... Broadway. Apart from that, I think it?s too plain and modern looking to really fit Broadway.

Although Baron?s piece wasn?t of the best quality, it fits the theme perfectly. The text could?ve been done better, but really puts the feeling across. This piece was also really what I expected to come from this theme. Go you.

Retribution: I got no damn clue what you're trying to convey with those Roman numerals, but I like them anyway. :P

The red you used works, as does your choice and arrangement of pictures (I especially like the one in the middle, myself).

Baron: You got a great photo for your piece, and the washed-out cursive...ness behind your text reminds me of something I'd see somewhere on Broadway back in the '30s. The text is decent, but the placement kind of irks me, especially "The Magic...", which seems kind of forced into the corner.

I didn't see much at fault with either piece, so I'll just have to go with the one that immediately appeals to me, and that's Baron's. While Retribution's picture reveals itsself to you all the more as you look at it, Baron's just kind of pops out at you, and I think that reflects the idea of Broadway a bit more. Great work, both of you. This was a hard one.

There come's a time in everybody's life when you must question the meaning of life. And this is not the time.

*cough* Anyways...

Retri: It's...well, it screams out "RETRIBUTION MADE THIS!!!" XD It's your style, which I thought was easily conveyed in your piece. I like how clean-cut everything is and the positioning. And, like always, how clear the graphic as a whole is.
Still trying to contemplate what the roman numerals are for, though I have a few ideas. The main one going through my head..."I think it's time we blow this thing, get everyone and the stuff together...Okay 3-2-1 - let's jam." My God I hate you. ><;;

Baron: At first glance, I just kinda went "...What?". If I didn't know you and your work better, I would say that the image is a mere crop with some words. BUT! (there is a but), on closer inspection, I see the detail. I love how the image has a washed-out sorta effect to it (overlay?), but still contains the boldness of the original pic (yay for neon lights!).
However, the text just doesn't work for me. Because of how the objects in the picture are set up, it's a little awkward to have any chunk of text. That, and the font face doesn't seem to be right. Hmm...

And after that wonder scientific analysis, I would have to say that my vote goes to Retri. I'm having a weird mental image flunctuating around in there about...if we added a glossy look to it...it would look cool! Kinda like what the images of the Nintendo Revolution's controller look like. That would be pimpin'. XD

They both have some good qualities, but neither really scream at me like I feel something with this theme probably should. On first glance, Baron's seems more interesting... but it falters because the picture is simply a crop of a very easy to find image with some text laid over it; any alterations are so extremely minor that I wind up sitting and wondering if it's just the monitor I'm using or if something was actually done (even after comparing what you have shown, it looks like a couple increases in basic options...). I also don't really understand why one of the periods falls off the edge of the image after "Magic".

I feel Retribution's could have gone over with some more color usage. Even Chicago's version of Broadway is bright and busy... I imagine that New York's is even moreso. I don't know that that's conveyed here. That's mostly just my taste, though, and not something I guess I can say is a "problem" in either of these. I don't know that simplicity was necessarily the way to go with this sort of theme, but again, this is how I'd approach it. I always hate when someone tells me to do something that's more of "Well, that's how I'd make it!" and not something actually objective... Hopefully I'm not doing that here lol.

I guess, in the end, I'd go with Retribution.

Well this one is pretty hard to judge since both capture the theme well and both capture my eye... But here it goes.

Retri: Well as usual the image is great and I love the overall feeling. However, I would have liked to see a comparison between Today and Yesterday(If you catch my drift) The Theme could not have been captured any better and it fits the overall feel of "BROADWAY." I love the three broadway terms. The Roman Numerals might signify the start of a show? 1 2 3!!!! Who knows? Great work as always.

Baron: I enjoy the feeling of this piece. It gives you that feeling of broadway, depressing and yet bright. The quality of the image could've been better. I can see a contrast of Then and Now and that is what I was looking for. The image is simple but complex in a weird way.

My Vote goes to BARON

Retri you had it sealed with just a tad bit of color... That is all it would have took since I like you image better on a overall feeling standpoint.

I want to see how this turns out, the images are far to close in overall quality and I think it will be nice to see where this goes.

Just to let both of you know I changed my vote 5 Times.... That is how much respect I have for these images and both of you.

Retribution: Well, this piece is very clean, clear, and present the theme very well. However, There are some minor things that didn't quite appeal to me: First off, The "Broadway" font is very sketchy (I'm aware that that is the font type), but it seems that it should of either been colored, or maybe created at a larger scale. Secondly, as I told you on AIM, "Live" would of stood out more well if there was a outline, or even a slight drop shadow. The pictures used clearly scream of Broadway, and the quality is decent. I enjoy how the picture on the right seems slightly tilted, and assuming that you placed "Chicago" on the picture, then it was done very well to go along with the minor tilt. The i's on the bottom? Well, I'm not quite sure about that, but they don't set anything off balance. Another classic piece by Retribtuion, That's for rizzle.

Baron: When I first viewed your piece It appeared quite impressive, but after you provided the picture you used to create it, It shows that there was not much done to the orginal picture except for a crop job, and added text. I love the picture, and the color scheme, however. There's not much room for text placement, but I feel that something more could of been done to set the text with more of a style. It's a beautiful peice, but Because of the lack of orginal work my vote must go out to Retribution.

Kudos to you both.

Ah, I apologize. I did not notice the difference in contrast, and such before. You did make it look much more lively, and cleaned it up very well. I also notice the faded text in the background- Nice touch. It gives a wavey feeling to the background's appearance. :animesmil

I'm sorry that I did not catch that before hand. At the time I posted my comment I was using an older school computer, so some things did not appear as they seemed. I must now give you more credit than what I had orginaly done. Deeply sorry.

I must copy that. I'll not withdraw my vote, but it was pretty much a let-down.

Edit to reply at Baron's next post: Right, I can clearly see you cleaned it up. It's just that I thought you put it all together by yourself, that's all.

Current Score:

Retribution: First of all your piece is very nostalgic, it reminds me of something one would see in a museum with older pictures about Broadway. The thing that really distracts from this piece is the letters on the bottom and the extra space on the top. I also do not care for the tiny bit of color as it distracts from a piece that seemed to be more older black and white. Still overall it is very nicely done and represents Broadway quite well.

Baron Samedi: The thing I like best about your piece is how it just pops and grabs your attention. The red neon light with the character almost completely in grays and blacks with the tiny hint of color in his pocket really goes well together. The words are nicely chosen, and the only thing I don?t care for is the actual font that you used. It looks nice, I just don?t care for it.

Now for my choice, although Retribution?s was nicely done I feel that Baron Samedi?s piece grabs your attention much better. I?ve read all the posts so far and looked at the picture that Baron provided. It?s an excellent example of restoring a photo and making improvements that make it pop even more. So for this round my vote goes to Baron Samedi.
