This is a difficult one because they both have good qualities and portions that don't work quite as well. I find Doc's to be almost needlessly angsty, but maybe that's just me. I like the attempted film negative effect, but the jagginess of the circles detracts... They also don't seem to be well centered, so it ends funnily on the right side. The source images are good quality, however, which helps.

I can see what Kitty was trying to do and I like the idea... Unfortunately, I think the use of the typefaces winds up really detracting from it; their placement and style, particularly in the definition segment, seems entirely too random. Typography doesn't simply involve placing words down, it involves placing them well; portions are too close together, others are too far apart. I'm not so sure I'm big on the blue overlay, either.

I'm going to go with Doc.

Doc: I like the look as if your picture is a film negative, but what I don?t care for is how the white circles seem to be off and not centered, so the right side looks off. I also do not care for the font used for the word Hollywood. I love your choice of images as I think they fit the theme quite well. Nicely done.

Kitty: I really like the overall Hollywood theme of your picture, the colors and the words and sign and other image go together quite well. What I don?t care for is the placement of the word Hollywood as I think it?s a bit distracting. Also, maybe it?s just me, but the actual city and buildings seem slanted. Still overall it?s nicely done.

Now for the hard part. I like both pieces as they both represent the theme quite well. But in the end my vote goes for Kitty as I think the over all combination of pictures captures the theme a little better.

Were these rushed?

I don't mean to sound rude, but both pieces seem a bit rushed to me.

Doc: Putting the images on a reel like that is creative, but the very real images don't feel right on a reel that doesn't look real. No pun intended. ._.
I feel awkward looking at the leftmost picture since it seems a little blurry.
I like the tiny bit of colour that's in the center frame, and I like the font-face for most of the text, but font-face for Hollywood doesn't seem to match.

Kitty: The Oscar, the Street Sign, HOLLYWOOD, and the defintion, lying ontop of the picture of the city. The way the images just seem to lie there suggest that they wasn't too much planning involved (I'm sorry if there was). I love the way your definition was done though. Your use of typography aligns with me enough to give you my vote.

My vote goes to Kitty.

When I read the theme "Hollywood", I was expecting more bright colors and lights, so I was taken a bit off guard when both pieces had darker and more washed-out colors, lol. I think this sort of works in Doc's piece, with his piece being purposefully contradictory to stereotypical Hollywood, but I didn't see any reason for it in Kitty's, which seems to be more generally about the city.

On the other hand, Doc's jagged circles (not a biggie, though), the fact that the measurements of the images he used are way out of proportion to what they'd actually be in a film reel, and the contextually unnecessary use of borders all detracted from the idea that his piece takes place on a film reel. Also, I didn't even realize that the pictures were supposed to look like negatives until someone mentioned it, lol.

As I mentioned before, Kitty's use of color really takes away from her piece. I also don't like how the images just look kind of thrown on there, or the Academy Award at least.

On the upside, I really liked Doc's image selection and Kitty's use of the Hollywood letters. All things weighed, though, I think Doc conveyed his interpretation of the theme better than Kitty. Good job, kiddos.

Doc's idea was really nice, and he probably would've gotten my vote if it was worked out better. The filmstrip probably would've looked better in brown (since they normally are brown). Also the text is quite out of place. The "Hollywood" doesn't look bad, but the other text looks too flashy and stuff to belong on a filmstrip. Perhaps "Courier new" would've done the job better (just an idea).

Kitty's piece, like said "seems to be more generally about the city." The Encyclopedia kind of text on it was rather original. The oscar was a bit too sharp for the rest of the image (being shiny and stuff) and placed in a bit too sharp angle.

My vote goes to Kitty. Doc, nice one, but it could've gotten a bit more attention and feeling (in my opinion).

Doc: I really like the pictures and the saying that you choose to use. It?s a nice representation of the concept of Hollywood. There are two factors to your picture that I feel distract from the piece. First of all the placement of the white circles, it makes the picture seem unbalanced as they are not centered. Then there is the little bit of color in the center picture, it distracts from the overall black and white look to your picture.

Kitty: For your piece I like the choice of pictures, the only part that seems a bit off in that respect is the award as it?s just a tiny bit to shiny and it seem slightly out of place. I like the addition of the description of Hollywood, but the center word is a little too large for my tastes and seems to distract from the over all piece as well.

Now for the hardest part as there are things about each picture that I think out do the other person?s submission. In the end I am giving my vote to Kitty. Both pictures are quite nice, but sorry Doc, I really dislike how the white circles are not centered.

Horray for library posting where the keyboard is as noisy as hell! = =;;

Doc: Well, I love the quote. It certainly means something, and shoves in the aspect that Hollywood is very materialistic. But other than that, I feel no love for the piece (sorry). It just doesn't speak to me. The first picture is a little blurry, and seems to be out of place in the whole "angst" feel of it all. (Hehe, I love that word. ANGST!) And the font is a little difficult to read, but not much. I love that font. :3

Kitty: It's BLUE! How could I not have at least one little feeling for it?! XD I love how it has the collage mish-mosh going on, but it makes it look more complete instead of cramped. The definition part was, as Boo said, pretty original. I like how the whole city was conveyed instead of the movie aspect to it all, since Hollywood is a place, not just a movie craze. My only complaint would be the "Hollywood" text, which seems a little awkward in the piece. But it's hard to say what could be done, since the picture wouldn't be complete with out it. I would suggest making it a bit sharper...but that's all I can think of.
= =;;

And, well, I think it's fairly obvious that Kitty gets my vote. Hell, after what happened last round, it's really good that I liked your piece.
Mmm...I'm getting that feeling again. The past shouldn't have been dug up. >< Crap.
