Guest vernsan
Then I must be the sexiest man alive XD I rmrmbered a moment from X the Movie which made me want to cry.
At the very end when Kamui hold Fuma's head and cries.
I thought it was sad, but the moment was sorta ruined by my cousin and bro who were laughing their brains out :animeangr
Haha yep I've had some moments like that too, darn them. I've cried while watching anime I don't know how to explain it just happens.
sbsp13668
LOL! I cried once just because a little kid in a movie with like a broken leg or something was singing the national anthem! But in that movie My Dog Skip I almost died of boredom and like my whole family was crying their guts out I don't get it I'm so weird . . . :catgirl: :animesigh

Saya
I've cried during several (thousand) movies, including animes and anime series... Chobits did have me quite sad to the point of frowning and smiling at the same time, but I do have a lot of complaints against it ( I don't think it was exceptional at all, but it certainly was good... but I suppose I'll save that for another thread at another time). Crying for me isn't necessarily weeping beyond belief, but I do get emotional when watching some titles like Millennium Actress, Wolf's Rain, Last Exile, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, Voices of a Distant Star, YamiBou, among many others. I've yet to watch Grave of Fireflies but it's on my list to see soon. As some know, I literally hated Tokyo Godfathers, so it did make me emotional... emotional enough to send it back immediately it give it a poor review on review sites. :) Still not over that one. In my opinion the best thing about anime is that unlike most "cartoons" the titles typically bring with it a strong emotional attachment, nice to know such can be done. Guest Ralonzo
Ya, whole bunch of times. This is why anime is great - you can get involved with and feel for the characters. The list includes but is not limited to: Chobits
[On the roof, ep 26]
Elfen Lied
[Lucy and Kouta on the steps, ep 13]
The Place Promised In Our Early Days
[reunion in the plane]
Fullmetal Alchemist
[Chimera-Nina tugging on Ed's coat ep 7, Alicia at Hughes' funeral ep 25, and worst of all Hughes waving from train platform at Ed after funeral ep 25]
Haibane Renmei
[Reki and Rakka in the studio, ep 13]
Love Hina Christmas Special
[Naru on the mic]
[boy I've been getting sentimental] Samurai X: Reflections [you gotta ask?] Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal [you gotta ask?] Gunslinger Girl
[Angelica's death ep 13]
Futurama: Jurassic Bark [not anime, but man that one screwed me up] :animecry: :animecry: :animecry: Oddly enough, Wolf's Rain didn't get me, nor did Cowboy Bebop or Trigun. Saya
Oddly enough, Wolf's Rain didn't get me, nor did Cowboy Bebop or Trigun.
*Nods and hints at big spoiler, so don't highlight unless you've seen the whole series* You know what it probably was with Wolf's Rain?
The whole trippy idea with the reincarnation/eternal reoccurrence or whatever you wish to call it. It sort of distracted me a bit too, again I felt for Wolf's Rain though but I can understand if that was the reason.
Kind of gets you thinking or trying to think when you should be feeling, a problem with some animes balancing the two. Cowboy bebop got me though ;)
Guest Ralonzo
I merged your two replies. In the future, please don't double-post. Thanks! - Dagger That might have been it. Or maybe it was just built up too much that I was expecting more than I got. I mean, those scenes in Wolf's Rain were all done correctly, by the numbers, by the book. But maybe there wasn't quite enough development of the characters up to that point that I would care that much. The closest I got was with
Toboe and Quent
but I still didn't tip because I was expecting it. You either need very strong character development like in those other series, or a complete curveball shock like that Futurama, I guess. ---------
I think the question is more about crying and less about anime, but that's just me. Long story short, if two guys are in the room together, no it is not ok to cry - over a show at least. The presence of the other guy should be enough incentive to not cry. "Dude, are you crying." "Nope, are you? OMG, you totally are!" And from there, the moment the show created should be lost by then, and crying doesn't become a possibility. Of course, if you are alone, cry away. ^^
You cannot bawl. No. But, say, you and your buds are watching Gladiator for the first time, and you get to the scene when
Lucilla says "He was a soldier of Rome, honor him." and they carry Maximus away and he floats off to be reunited with his family in Elysian fields
, then a single manly tear in the corner of the eye is quite acceptable. Saya
I guess some guys are just more manly than I am... lol, I don't care if it's a room full of guys, girls, or little hampsters that say "meep" every three seconds: if I'm going to get emotional, well it happens. I mean sure, I won't start bawling, screaming crying with anyone (guy or girl) with me, usually I save that for when I'm alone but simple throat choked, glossy eyes, a little tear or two... I don't see the problem. =^.^=

lone wolf rider
:animesmil I think it is ok that they cry beceuse boys are actually more sensative than you might think, and most boys want to cry but they think that just because they are boys and not girls that it would not be right to cry. But anyway yes it is ok. :catgirl:
animekid17
of course it is ok for guys to cry over anime, we're all just humans and we also have the right to be emotional. I sure know I've cried before, especially during the chimera episode of fullmetal alchemist :( :animecry:

Zen
I've never really 'cried' about anything unless it has to deal with me personally, such as a close relative dying. When it comes to anime, I don't get sad, I get pissed at the show and it's creator for killing off or doing such messed up stuff. Things I have gotten pissed or a little emotional about are as follows: This following list contains some major spoilers, and I don't feel like tagging all of them, so READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. 1. The Death of Maes Hughes in Full Metal Alchemist... That man was great. And the funeral was pretty sad, I'll admit. 2. The Death of Nicholas D. Wolfwood two episodes before the finally of Trigun. God! He was my freakin' Hero! He was easily the coolest character in the show and deffinetly had the coolest weapon. That whole spiritual surrogate thing during the battle with knives however kinda helped me get over it. 3. The last episode of Mobile Suit Gundam: 0080 War in a Pocket. I only have one word... BERNIE!!! Closest to crying I ever came in any anime. 4. The whole plight of Alphonse Elric kinda makes you depressed in Full Metal Alchemist. 5. The Death of Straight Cougar in S-Cry-Ed. He was easily the coolest character in that show. I mean, he beat Ryoho and Kazuma at the same time, and then they showed his true alter for the first time, only to have him die... Damn It! 6. The last episode of Cowboy Bebop. That was one ending where I felt kinda glad for the protaganist dying. 7. The plight of Harry McDougal in Outlaw Star... sigh. All for love. 8. The death of Greed in Full Metal Alchemist. Greed was possibly the only homonculus worth sympathizing with. That guy was my favorite character for a minute. 9. Basically all of Blue Gender. 10. Rock Lee beating the hell out of Gaara, all for naught. That damned Sand Armor... Lee was so close. Then... BAM! Crushed arm and leg. And then that cat still stood up. That's a real fighter right there. All of these things have either made me kinda sad or made me yell and scream at the TV because of it's unfairness to the some of the coolest characters ever. Never cried though.

Tical's Foxboy
some anime has made me cry Siakano made me cry, then again FF10-2 made me cry during a thousand words. The part where Shuian looks at the guards with such hate and then looks at Lynn and his eyes look so loveing. Then they get shot to death, and a tear rolls down her check it made me cry for two days straight and every time I hear it I begin to cry.
ominous-aura
Watch Grave of the Fireflies. It's about World War II from the perspective of a Japanese boy. It's deeply emotional and touching. Whether or not you're a boy or girl, f you don't cry to this anime, you don't have a soul. Yes, I saw it. Yes, I cried. Yes, I'm a guy. No, I don't regret it. -ArV
That movie was ridiculously sad. I didn't cry, but I was a little depressed afterward. It was just too much. I like my anime a little lighter than that. Personally, I don't like it when guys cry period. If they do, it should be for a very good reason, like someone close to them passing away. I don't think a cartoon is a good reason for a guy to cry. I've never cried watching anime and I'm not some hard core, tough chick. I think it's good for a guy to be OK with crying, but not at the drop of a hat. The closest I ever came to crying was while watching FMA's "Night of the Chimera's Cry" and during "The Philosopher's Stone" with Barry the Chopper, but even then, I didn't cry, I was just shocked and sad! Guest darkruler
i probably would cry if i saw a sad one but most of the time i when i get to the end of an anime and they make u think the main character died then i don't normally cry i normally get pissed and throw the dvd player because i didn't watch the dang thing to get to the end and watch the main character die wtf is that. My girlfriend tells me she actually likes it, says crying is good for anyone and shows sensitivity. Many animes are full of emotions so I think it's perfectly healthy to do so. *Shrugs* I have to admit, it is interesting to know the opinion on this varies quite a bit for both girls and guys alike. :)
Meggido
Guy: Yes Cries in anime: yes Cries in movies: yes ok I originally thought I was some hard line guy who wouldn't cry at all. I mean I haven't cried at important events in my life. That changed about a year and a half ago and I'm gonna roll off movies and anime I've cried in so ya get the idea. Trigun (my first):
When Wolfwood dies.
Hero (film): many times throughout this. A Walk to remember(film) : the end. House of flying daggers (film): the end. Full Metal Alchemist:
When Hughes died
and the end. Elfen Lied:
Kouta and Lucy on the steps at the end.
End of Evangelion:
Only because they ruined a good series.
Howls moving castle: Don't ask why. Kurau Phantom memory: The End Kannaduki no Miko:
The end when one of the main characters sacrifices herself.
Midori Days (aka Midori no Hibi): then end out of happiness. Tsubasa Chronicle:
The point when i realised Yuuko was right and Sakura would never remember her past with Syaoran.
Now I have a habit of hiding myself in the shower and crying. Running water keeps everyone none the wiser. There are probably others I can't remember.
