The Boondocks

A new program on [adult swim] has recently piqued my interest in the form of Erin McGruder's "The Boondocks". From my knowledge, it was formerly a newspaper comic strip that I only got to catch a glimpse of once or twice in my memory. However, ever since the show began to air, I can't get enough of this show. The militant Huey, the witty Riley, and the ever present authority of Grandad Freeman have me laughing like I was back in the day when [as] was still premiering "Aqua Teen Hunger Force".

Alot of people are criticizing the series on it's racial insensitivity (sp?), but then again, thats mostly what made the Chappelle Show a great success. Recently, my favorite episode has been "The Trial of Robert Kelley". The video footage scene and Riley's confrontation with R. Kelley's prosecutor where hilarious.

I was wondering if anyone else has kept up with the show, and if they have any comments on it.

I have kept a close eye on [Adult Swims] progress with The Boondocks. Although I missed the first two episodes (Until I downloaded the first episode). I missed the R.Kelly episode, but I did see last sundays episode, entitled:

"Guess Hoe's Coming to Dinner"

As for the amount of Racisim or whatever, the racisim level of Boondocks is perfect. The Boondocks is supposed to have Witty Racial comments here and there and make fun of Political and Everyday Issues. With out these sorts of issues there would be no Boondocks.

I personally love The Boondock's, regardless that I've only seen these three episodes. It's quickly becoming a great hit in my book. The racism, the cursing, the subject matter, what-have-you, are no big deal in my opinion. In relativity, this show is far less controvercial than, say, Chappelle's Show or South Park. However, the problem there is that you're comparing something from a more adult-oriented site to one that's name ALONE deems it a child's channel.

[Adult Swim], yes, has it's own segmented time block outside of primetime hours, features discretion notices, gives ample warning to a show's subject matter, and has even said in the bumps that The Boondocks was one of the most politically incorrect shows ever aired on [AS] and has furthermore made in-jokes about how controvercial the show is. Despite these legal precautions, I can fully well see some ignorant parent group causing a big stink over this. I personally don't understand that, though. I mean, it's called ADULT Swim for a reason.

Parents these days are just too closed-off from the world. Hell, I saw three different commercials today alone that cursed in context, one repeatedly, but the second an 'animated character' (AKA cartoon) says something that remotely relates to a reference of a curse word, it is blasphemous against all that is American and holy and just.

Then again, that was the entire point of The Boondocks from day one. To jump over the line, run back across, and jump over again.

I think this is just [AS]'s big push to finally get their own station, to be honest with you. >_>; Use public outcry to seperate themselves from the limiting Cartoon Network tag and show the different series they hold rights to like they want. I would actually prefer that.

Either way, rant or no rant, I think The Boondocks is a hoot. Morally objectable content made light of in a condescending manner? What's not to love?

Don't trussst them niiiiiggas over deeerrreee..! *crash*

It's funny how the Simpson's, a show regularly featuring child abuse, alcoholism, and a good deal of cursing, is embraced by America and has ran for a plus of, what? 15 Years? And also air on primetime television is nationally embraced, but when a show such as the Boondocks or ATHF come onto a segment of late night television aimed at an audience over 14 years of age, they come under fire as not worthy of television, and that it's bad for children, who shouldn't be even be watching the programs on there.

While it would be nice to have an independent [adult swim] network, I don't think the guys down on William's Street can support there own network with original or all animated programming. I mean. it would be kinda weird to watch ATHF at noon (though it would also be awesome). But then again, I don't really consider [as] a part of the Cartoon Network family. It's like, I watch Toonami, which is CN, up until [adult swim], which is like changing the channel.

But yeah, Boondocks as a whole is a beautiful show. It's hilarious in all rights, and does remind me of an animated "Chappelle's Show" skit. I love it.... and yes, Uncle Ruckus does own my soul.

(Forgive me Jesus.) I love the Boondocks it's hilarious. I like the fact that they made it like a gangsta anime. And also my friend is always complaining about how there are no animes about black ppl (their you Brandon) I dnt know how anyone can dislike this show. It makes perfect sence if you think about all the reysizm and predgudizm (however you spell it) Most of my anime friends dont watch it, so I can never talk about it. I love the boondocks! Although I have only seen two episodes the hoe & R. Kelly one I do know that it has got a lot of media attention since then since it was featured on VH1's Best Week Ever. It's kind of a black version of South Park and really I don't think it's that bad.

Mostly people are shocked by the aspect that they use the N word with an er at the end instead of an ah. The epsiode where the Grandpa gets a girlfriend that's a hoe, I actually didn't believe she was a prostitute at first but a porn star. Beats me. When I saw the previews I thought I wouldn't find it to my liking, but I was wrong. Any show that causes controversy or makes fun of stupid celebrities whats not to like?

I love the show and Riley has to be my favorite especially the first episode.
fav qoute: "Boy were you having that dream where you made white folks riot again"
Riley "I was just telling them the truth" Grampa:"You know you can't tell white folks the truth.

I love the intro though Jesus Was Black, Ronald Regan was the Devil, and the Gov. is lying about 9/11.

Its about time people came up with original ideas about Jesus like anyone knows what race Jesus or God was considering the fact THe place Jesus lived was in Africa and I always wanted to know why were the Egyptians not considered black when they were liviing in the heart of Africa I mean comeon. Its so obvious.

Nothing to do with race..or anything..considering I'm a "minority" as well. But I think this show to be uninteresting to me. Watched a few episode, there are some funny parts but really, it has no serious point stricken to me.

What cartoons or animes do you know of with serious points Family Guy has no serious points, American Dad none, Futurama none, Simpsons none, Inuyasha and alot of other animes none. So what serious point are you looking for.

Huey is the greatest character in anime these days, in my opinion. The Boondocks has finally tipped anime in more of the pop culture direction instead of these tight pants school boy outfit type animes.
I love it! Finally an anime with seriously baggy clothing and present day themes. No stupid monsters.
I can't get enough of the profanity either. It's hilarious. Adult Swim has found their jackpot!

I don't know about you guys, but I got a kick out of the latest episode with Samuel L. Jackson. I'm not going to give anything away, but he had some serious Pulp Fiction Moments in there. I was roling around on the ground laughing when he broke out the,
"You live in What? Do They Speak English in What Motha #@$(a!?"
Don't want to ruin the suprise for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

And I'm always a big fan of the 'common sence' brand of comedy. I love how it points out social problems to the extreme to make fun of them. I see a strong similarity to Huey and John Stewart in that regard, even though one is a cartoon and the other is the college student's main source of political news today.
