Thanksgiving

So I'll ask. What are you doing for thanksgiving tomorrow? Is it something you always do, or are you doing something different this year?

Are you dreading seeing your relatives, or are they the 'eh, they're not SO bad' kind? Or are you just staying home with your family?

And lastly, tell us here, what kind of things are you thankful for this year?


Me? I'm staying home with my mom and my sister. I'll probably watch the Macy's parade in the morning (like I do every year), and then we'll have turkey later. This is basically what I do every Thanksgiving, so... yeah. ^^;

After dinner, we'll have some nice pumpkin pie (mmm, it's always so good!), and then half an hour later, we'll play scrabble. I hate scrabble because I always loose. And I normally don't mind loosing, but my sister always does SOMETHING to annoy me. She antagonizes me on purpose, and says mean things, and I'll say something back, and then she and my mom ALWAYS say "you're just being a sore loser." I can NEVER win, with them. EVER. It always goes back to me being a sore loser, but every time that happens, it's because SHE started it! GRRRR...!! (and I can name sometimes where she didn't do anything, and I lost, and it was okay, because she wasn't being a total ***** then!)

*silence ensues* ......Hookay. Well, that would be my messed up Thanksgiving - What about yours? X_x[/color]

[COLOR=Purple]Ah, Thanksgiving. My grandma, one or teo aunts and theri kids come over for dinner (all on moms side I asure you). Thanksgiving is great, my favorite relatives comeover and we eat interesting foods until we can't feel our vital oprgans. Or at least it would be great if it were just my awesome cousin, but no, his mom (whos subtitle I shall keep to myself out of respect) has to bring her three little heathens to wreak havoc and destroy everything. I'd say something along the lines of "why don't we eat at her place, let the little bastards destroy their oen stuff" but you could choke on the toxic fumes emminating from that thing.

Happy Thanksgiving... just another excuse for the government to rake in the tax money on the mass amounts of food everyone will buy.[/COLOR]

I'll be having a pretty low-key Thanksgiving, as per usual. Just hanging out with the relatives a bit, sleeping way more than I should, eating way more than I should (of course), overdosing on TV, etc. I'm looking forward to the food portion of it the most; my mom's cooking is unparalleled. Apple cobbler & pumpkin pie, here I come. Desserts aside, though, you can have your turkey--some good stuffing is all I need to be happy. :catgirl:

We usually go over to my aunt's house for a massive dinner with the family, but this year my step-mom is cooking. :eek:
I'm leaving for their house today. I really hate being in the house where the dinner is being served, [b]while[/b] the dinner is being cooked. The cook is always stressed, and gives me that mean look, like I should be doing something to help. My mom, my grandma, my step-mom. It drives me crazy, because I know there's nothing I can do.

I personally don't see the point of thanksgiving, It really represent the genocide and exploitation of Native Americans. ALso I hate having to see my extended family, they annoy the f@#$ out of me.

I love Thanksgiving, it is one of my favorite holidays. It is nice to have a day set aside where we can reflect back on the past year, give thanks for all the good things that has happend AND spend time with friends and family. I know we should be thankful every day, but having a special day set aside gives us the time in our crazy busy schedules to actually do it!

I will be traveling with my parents, brother and husband to my inlaws place across the state. His brother will be there as well. Our families for the past 10 years have been celebrating the holiday together. It makes it really special for all of us since both our families are small in size and this gives us the chance to have a larger get together. We catch up on the past year and eat, eat, eat!

This year I am thankful for my family and friends being so supportive of me during my illness. I would be lost without them. I am thankful for the wonderful contacts I have made this past year while trying to get my second career off the ground. I feel like things are moving along quite nicely with the career front. I am also thankful for my little accomplishments during the day. When I am feeling sick there are days I can't get out of bed by myself. Being able to pick up a jug of juice and pour it on my own is a miracle in itself. These are the things I am thankful for. Much happiness to you all and:

Thanksgiving? Staying home. Well, my dad's going to yell at me, I'm going to be FORCED to sit at the table and eat with my family, even though I can't stand it. They're gonna go around and have everyone say what they're thankful for, and I'm not gonna know what to say, because I can't list off my boring material items and clothes or else I'm a shallow *****, and I don't have anything non-pesimistic to be thankful about (*ahem* starving children in other countries), so I just lie and say that I'm thankful for my family. And then, afterwards, I'm going to be, once again, FORCED to sit with my family, decorating christmas ornaments. My dad's gonna yell at me again, for how I choose to decorate mine. Then, after that, I will get drunk off of spiked egg nog and I may even stay up so I can get stoned, and smoke more cigarettes. Yay. There's something missing...oh yeah, there's no sex. Damn.

[size=1]I usually stay at home, cleaning the house in the morning and setting up for when my relatives come over to eat with us. However, Alzheimers in my grandfather has made us decide to have Thanksgiving at my grandparents' house. That happens at about 1 PM, because my [i]other[/i] grandparents can't see in the dark - they need light to drive back home. After all that, we come back home and eat a bunch of leftovers for dinner.

I want to see Harry Potter tomorrow, too, but I doubt that's gonna happen. ;_;

All in all, though, it's a pretty good holiday.[/size]

[SIZE=1]We already started cooking... At 4:30 this morning. I had to take the day off work today to help. We have half a dozen pies, more jello than we could EVER eat, and the biggest turkey in the whole damn state of Georgia!

It'll be me, my mom, my brother, my step-dad, and my cousin Amanda. I'm pretty happy that we'll all be together this Thanksgiving. My family isn't much for 'family togetherness'.

A nice Thanksgiving will make up for the hell I'm gonna have to go through this Christmas. But that's a sob story for another thread, I'm afraid.[/SIZE]

Just another gathering of a bunch of families. It used to be fun, but after all our close family friends moved, holiday celebrations seem a bit bland. Our old family friends had children who were around my age, and it was always fun celebrating with them. Now, I just grab a plate to eat and watch the little kids run around.

But I'm thankful for having a chance to have a life to live.

[SIZE=1]I never liked Thanksgiving, I always thought it was a boring holiday as a child.

Anyway when I was younger, and lived in Phoenix, it would be my mom, dad, younger brother, me, and my aunt, uncle, and grandparents would all come over(dad's side).

When we moved to Ohio my mom's mom, her brother, and my dad's sister began coming. But now since my parents devorce its just my dad, my brother, me, and my dad's sister for most holidays. My brother and I see our mom everyday so its not a big deal that we don't spend the actual holiday with her.

My aunt will be coming at two o'clock, and staying untill whenever. A friend of my dad's from church is also stopping by later on today with her brother, after they have their little festivities. She's extremely tall too, about 6'6" and her son is even taller.

Our weather is so weird. It looks like Christmas outside. It began snowing yesterday, pouring, and started up again this morning. It looks like we'll have a white Thanksgiving.

I'm thankful for everyday god has given me. Simply put. ^_^[/SIZE]

But, I noticed, I forgot to say was I was thankful for. Hmm.... material goods wise, I'm thankful for being able to buy books and manga, and I'm thankful for fanfiction. Other than that, I'm thankful that this school year is going pretty well so far (hah, that could all change depending on whether I get a D on my last test in US History), and I'm glad I live in America (oh geeze, yeah, I AM glad for that, so there!), and I'm glad I don't have bird flu... yet (or have to worry about it so much).[/color]

[FONT=tahoma][COLOR=DarkRed]I love Thanksgiving, personally (Or as I prefer to call it: Turkey Day). You eat turkey, potatoes, and pie, then pass out a couple hours later. I fail to see the downside. This year, however, I decided to suggest that we have my aunt's potatoes. They're delicious, you see. This ended in my parents deciding I should make said potatoes. So I just got done peeling 10 friggin potatoes.

Me and my bro will probly be here all day. It's always nice to have a little family time. And I'm pretty sure my family will play euchre (Pronounced: Yuker). We always play euchre. Even at my aunt's funeral. Cue family tradition.

Things I am thankful for:

[B]Friends. [/B]I got real good friends out here, and I'm thankful for it.

Mm... that meal really hit the spot (we usually have a big late lunch for our Thanksgiving feast, rather than dinner). My little sister made a rocking carrot cake, too. Unfortunately it's almost gone now.

I seem to be coming down with something--what luck! It's odd that I always get sick around the holidays. Here's to hoping it's not the bird flu, haha.

I live in Canada. :animeswea It was Thanksgiving. We just have it a month earlier because of our shorter growing season. For example, it's snowing today :grumble: Snow is nice to look at, while I'm inside!!

All this talk about Thanksgiving makes me hungry...

Well, what I'm thankful for, is that since America's Thanksgiving is today, that means, more sales for me when I go on my shopping trip on Saturday!!

Well I?m not all for mushy stuff so I?m not really all too thankful for much of anything, or at least if I am I?m certainly not eating the Turkey because of it. But I suppose I do enjoy Thanksgiving, it?s certainly better than things like Christmas where greedy sobs steal your money and give you cheap gifts in return.

Sadly though all the stations are starting with the Christmas shows so soon? *coughs* anyhow?

This Thanksgiving I spent at my house like I normally do with family. No family friends attended but it was nice because we have a decent sized family. The fun and games lasted for about 5 seconds in which I tackled my older sister and damn near gave her a broken nose? her response back was beating me to a pulp. Anyhow, what was cool was the food!

We had stuffing, corn, and turkey (cranberry sauce, peas, string beans, etc). My mother did the carving (she usually doesn?t know the first thing about cutting anything up let alone cooking), and managed to effectively separate the white meat from the dark. So the Turkey was pretty good, we all got the pieces we wanted to? and well, I had some of my good beer with dinner too (a beautiful bitter IPA I might add).

Since no one answered (I don?t think) in the comments section, I?m going to ask here ? does anyone know what tofu Turkey is, or rather, did anyone have this as a turkey substitute for the holidays? Turns out one of my friends (another anime fan, probably somewhere on the boards) had one, though I don?t know too much about it.

Now since the house has calmed down, think I?ll be heading off to bed and/or video game playing! =^.^=
