Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. Having seen The Goblet of Fire earlier in the week, I must admit I was quite impressed with it overall, given the sheer scope of the book it was very unlikely they'd be able to use all the material. I have to say I was rather glad that SPEW didn't make an appearance in the movie and it was one segment of the book I wasn't particularly fond of. I was pleased with the performances of most of those involved, Alan Rickman never ceases to bring a smile to my face when he appears on screen. As for Gambondore/Grumbledore I'll agree with people that his performance wasn't what I'd have expected and sadly well below par of what we'd have expected from someone taking over from fellow Irishman Richard Harris. It is unfortunate that he is unwilling to try and properly take on the Dumbledore role, and if his execution of the character in Order of the Phoenix is as poor as Goblet of Fire
then perhaps it is best that Dumbledore meets his end in Half Blood Prince
. Still it?ll be two years before the next movie is brought to cinema and he has plenty of time to reverse his decision on his methodology. Between the Irish win in the World Cup Finals and Brendan Gleeson?s Mad-Eye performance I must admit this is definitely my personal favourite of the series to date. I?m looking forward to see if OotP continues the same path in terms of direction and story that GoF has laid the foundations of.

Raquel
yeah, he's also the sheriff of nottingham in robin hood prince of theives and in spece quest or w/e .
And the robot in hitchhikers guide. Any who, I thought the movie sucked. The graphics were good, but all the inner turmoil got cut. That was what saved the book for me.
armana
Just saw the movie today and I must say it was absolutely excellent. The Goblet of Fire is my favourite book in the series and I think they did an amazing job in staying true to the book. In fact, the only thing that let me down would be the way the world cup was shown only briefly. I'm actually quite shocked as to what's being said about Michael Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore. I think he is doing an excellent job. In my mind, I never saw Dumbledore as 'calm and collected'. In fact, I thought that Richard Harris played the role too flatly. Gambon is an excellent Dumbledore - he brings a sense of safety and security to the character and, even though he did seem to be getting kind of stressed out in some scenes, he always seemed to be in control - exactly as I read his character in the books. The first two Harry Potter films were enjoyable, but too generic in my mind. Chris Columbus is doing a great job now as a producer, but I just don't think he cuts it as a director. Hogwarts looked like just another old castle. I love what that Alfonso dude did with The Prisoner of Azkaban - the re-designed castle; the authentic English weather. From a creative point of view, I'm loving how new directors are being sought for each movie now, and how each one is actually coming across as a film, instead of just a screen adaption of the books. Frankly, I think the Potter franchise is in extremely capable hands cinema-wise. 2007 can't come soon enough.
Guest Natsumi
This was a pretty good movie. i went to the theaters last night and saw it. it was long! it cut out most of the good parts from the book tho. ne ways does ne one else like the movie? :catgirl:
I agree that the movie was good ... but i feel that they should have done justice to the book and made the movie in 2 parts. Shwa
The movie was awsome, better than the first and second one I have to say. I went with one of my best friends who's in college at the moment and we saw it in PA in an IMAX theater, good quality sound. I thought the moivie was very suspecseful and had a lot of twists to the plot. Though I still like the 3rd Harry Potter, this one is now my second favorite. DBZgirl88
I know this doen't add much to the discussion, but I had to post it because it was so darn funny! Before the Goblet of Fire came out, several movie clips were released. A Harry Potter fan by the name of Sheridan made a rather funny trailer for the movie, one that supports the
Harry/Hermione relationship (there's an ongoing war between those who think Harry and Hermione should be together and those that think Ron and Hermione should be together).
The clip contains spoilers, so beware, people who haven't seen the movie yet. Dagger
I haven't watched that yet, but thanks for sharing. HP shipping wars come quite close to being the funniest thing ever. The huge stink raised by the
Harry/Hermione
fans (er, I'm not really sure why I'm spoiler-tagging that... just trying to follow precedent) after the release of Half-Blood Prince kept me grinning & entertained for months. Ah, Fandom Wank, how I love thee. On-topic, I still haven't gone to Goblet of Fire (or Prisoner of Azkaban, for that matter, but I think I'm just going to skip PoA). I do have tentative plans to see it at the National Air & Space Museum's IMAX theater on the day after Christmas. So hopefully that will work out okay. ~Dagger~

Alot. That would have been much more satisfying to the large population of Harry Potter readers. Speaking from the numbers, I think that the amount of the readers outnumbers the nonreaders. Which would mean that the majority of the movie-going audience has read the book. Personally, I was pleased with the movie, but it left me wanting. For the other three movies, I walked out of the theater ecstactic, saying, "God, that was the best movie ever!" I didn't with this one. I can't quite place my finger on what went wrong with it. Still, it made me happy to see parts of the fourth book on the screen, portrayed by terrific actors. Overall, a good movie. It recieves three wailing eggs ( :animecry: :animecry: :animecry: ) out of five.
Ai.sAkUrA.chan
I thought the movie was the best out of all the ones they've made. The characters (Harry,Ron, and Hermoine) seem to have grown more, not JUST physically. Although Harry has gotten a bit more...i dunno...voilent i guess? I really didn't enjoy the whole Dumbledore thing either. It was just a bit messed up. And...i really can't deny the fact that Cedric WAS good-looking. I think i was the only dork crying in the movies when he died!! :animeshy: I HAD expected it though, since i had read the book before i watched the movie. For some reason, I always do that! Read a book, THEN watch the movie. I was some what dissapointed in how there was alot missing in the movie...i mean, they DID take out ALOT! Oh...teehee,and i didn't know Cho was actually asian...>.< Not even when reading the book! Other than all the missing parts, i liked it..! Kitty-----> :catgirl: heh... EVA Unit 100
On-topic, I still haven't gone to Goblet of Fire (or Prisoner of Azkaban, for that matter, but I think I'm just going to skip PoA).
If you have to choose between seeing PoA or GoF, see PoA. It's probably the only HP film that comes even close to the greatness of the books (and PoA was my favorite of the books, so that's saying a lot). GoF isn't without its charm, but it's an extremely flawed film. On the positive side of things, the challenges are fast and exciting, Rupert and the Phelps twins have never been funnier, and nothing can ever be a more faithful representation of the book than the GoF movie's portrayal of the return of Lord Voldemort. That's more or less it for the positives, though. Although GoF may very well be one of the finest action-adventure movies I've seen recently, that's all it is and nothing more: a very good action-adventure movie. And while it tries to achieve the level of well-roundedness of the book, it fails miserably. Outside of a few outstanding comedic performances that I already mentioned earlier, everything that doesn't concern the tournament or Voldemort's return is done extremely lazily. Some of the directing is downright terrible; I don't recall a single time when Dumbledore said anything without screaming in the movie. Emma Watson, the most charming of the major kid actors in the first 3 movies, now comes off as a mere two-dimmensional device for the purposes of the Yule Ball (and is made even less in-character by the lack of the entire Winky plotline). Entire subplots concerning Rita Skeeter and Madame Maxime have been altered and dumbed down to the point where you wonder why they even included those characters at all. Even the book's moving "remember Cedric Diggory" speech is forced and forgettable in the movie. While the PoA movie singlehandedly elevated the HP movie franchise to greatness with it's extraordinary understanding of the characters, GoF might very well be the weakest of all 4 movies so far. My advice: see PoA any way you can (HBO shows is so much that it's pretty hard to miss unless you have a very busy schedule that can't accomidate a 2-hour-plus movie), but wait for GoF to come out on DVD. hidaboy
it was a good movie, but i think they spent to much time on the yule ball. and they left out dobby and winky
