I'm not sure about screamo exactly, but they are more opera rock. Has anyone heard of some of the other bands on my list? One band I forgot to add is King Missile.
Nightwish isn't really alternative rock at all, and they are DEFINITELY not screamo. I know other people might classify them differently, but I place them in the "symphonic metal" category. Something like that comes when you mix orchestras with heavy metal and a female vocalist. I love Nightwish a lot...at least pre-Once Nightwish. Don't get me wrong, I like their last album, but it just doesn't sound like the Nightwish from Oceanborn to Century Child. Besides, they recently fired their singer, Tarja Turunen (who was the best female vocalist I've ever heard, next to Sarah Brightman and a woman at my church), and they've yet to hire a new one. I'll give them a chance when they make a new CD, but I doubt it will be anything like what I'm so used to. ='(

Anyway, back on topic. I think that Kidneythieves is a good band, though I don't know if they're exactly what you're looking for. I've only heard "Before I'm Dead," and I love it a lot. Let's see...I've also heard one song by Open Hand, "Time to Talk," which I love. Other than these new ideas, I'm clueless as to anything else.

I listen to a lot of stuff, from metalcore, to post-hardcore, to screamo, to JRock, to John Mayer.

Favorites include the following...

Fear Before the March of Flames, The Fall of Troy, Botch, Funeral Diner, Van Johnson, Vidoll, Dir en grey, Rentrer en Soi, August Burns Red, As Cities Burn, (old) Norma Jean, The Chariot, Underoath, etc. Mainly that kinda thing.

Hm, I listen to quite a big group of music. Right now, the band I'm most interested in is Panic! At the Disco. I really like their music.

Other than that, I listen to Motion City Soundtrack, too. Lots of old music.

And I like Frank Sinatra, too. Oh the classics. :D

Ooo! Panic! At the Disco and Motion City Soundtrack! Two of my other favorites I forgot to mention. Panic's CD just never gets old to me.

Someone mentioned The Fall of Troy. This is a band that I am absolutely excited about. Although this years Doppleganger was this years biggest dissappointment for me, I am looking forward to their Ghostship album. There selftitled cd was very good, my favorite cd of 2003, they are an extremely talented band.

Okay, I listen to just about anything...let's see, modern rock? Not sure, but I do like System of a Down, Green Day (both old and new), and Fall Out Boy. I know, I know, Fall Out Boy this, Fall Out Boy that, blah, blah, blah. Whatever, I like them. In fact, I'm listening to them right now. That's it for "modern rock," if those three count. Ciao!

x_kr3w_x, your post didn't have much of a point. It would've been better to explain why you like System of a Down rather than to just suggest it.

Uh, anyway...my band is a modern rock band. *_*, we have a million different genres and I'm sure there might be one you like. The only song on there now is dangerously incomplete, and it's more of a symphonic metalish song anyway. I've got plenty more songs in the works, I just need to get my band together to collaborate.

There's also the Smiths who are amazing; they have a really nice gentle sound, and I think Morrissey was their vocalist. They aren't modern, since they were around in the eighties and probably not around anymore, but you might like them.

Since you seem to like more of the alt. rock/underground scene, some good ones for you might be Snow Patrol, the Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Harvey Danger, Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, The Subways...I could go on. Boy Sets Fire and Fightstar are a little more emo, but still pretty good. For something more hard edged, you could try 12 Stones, 30 Seconds to Mars, or Breaking Benjamin, and possibly the Unseen. However, if you have an adversity to screaming, stay far away from the Unseen, and 12 Stones just to be safe.

For an old-fashioned touch, there's always rock-revival bands like Jet, the Vines, and the Black Keys. Also, I've got to give my attention to Social Distortion and Theory of a Deadman. Social D is more punk rock, while Theory of a Deadman is Souther Rock, in the vein of Nickelback (the singer sounds quite a bit like Chad Kroeger, actually).

For a bit of silliness, try the Darkness. Or, if you like Elton John at all, the Scissor Sisters. Both are pretty light hearted, the Darkness being...well...very wierd, the Scissor Sisters just a little flamboyant.

And I know it probably doesn't count, but the Rolling Stones new CD. Modern, and the best kind of rock there is. Just saying.

I like most of the first bands you mentioned, though I haven't heard of Boy Sets Fire and Fightstar.

Theory of a Deadman is way better than Nickelback.. I know I know, Chad Kroeger like helped them get started, but still. IMO, Nickelback = lame Canadian rock that I am ashamed of.

Oh hey, I just found a couple new bands the other day. (Although I'm sorry if I haven't been paying attention and they've been listed >>) Has anybody heard of The Juliana Theory? They're great because some of their songs are lke super emo, but then they come back and surprise you with a really happy song. The other band I recently started listening to is Something Corporate. They're fun ^__^

PS - Elton John is sweet.

Wow, Doppelganger disappointed you? I thought it was quite incredible... but then again, I do hear that their self-titled CD is amaaaaazing. (I've only heard a few songs from it)

Yep, they're definitely one of the most talented bands around.

Well, many of the songs on Doppleganger actually were originally released on their self-titled album. The only original Doppleganger track that I felt stood out was Act 1, Scene 1. However, I think that Equal Vision may have rushed them so that they had something to release... oh well...
If you can find any of their Ghostship songs, I highly recomend them. I only have parts 1,2,4,5, and have heard 6 live, but they are all fantastic and I cannot wait until they release the Ghostship album.

I'm pretty sure they haven't been mentioned, and I'm not sure if they would be considered modern rock, but another group I like is Beck. Everyone should give their new CD a try. Beck is awesome for me, because I like when people try different kinds of music for each song they put on their CD. And Beck is the only one I know that really does that.

Has anyone suggested Pedro the Lion yet? David Bazan, the mastermind behind this band, just recently dropped the band name and is now just releasing under his own name. However, there is an extensive catalogue of really good music by Pedro the Lion, so I recomend them to anyone. Their album Control is one of my top ten favorite albums.

I'm one who's more into the alternative rock scene, but I can appreciate other rock too. My favourite bands are Franz Ferdinand, the Killers and Bloc Party. I also like some songs of the Kaiser Chiefs and Depeche Mode.

Other rock groups I like are Greenday, Nickelback, Evanescence and Linkin Park.
