Hmm well I thought I'd start this off because I've realised how big my DVD collection is getting recently, and I thought I'd tell some of you what kind of films I like, and I'd like to hear what you guys like too.
I recently bought a film called "Versus" which is pop Yakuza violence with sword/gunplay, which is pretty cool. Then I saw a reccomendation for another film by the same director called "Azumi", which is pop Samurai violence with swordplay. Storyline isn't very deep but they action in the film makes up for it.
I'm also liking some Takeshi Kitano films, like "Brother", and "Sonatine". Sonatine was made 7 years before Brother, but still holds the Kitano flare, with a good few comedy punches involved throut the films. They Yakuza based plots, but I like 'em because you get to know the characters in both films, and the plots are pretty good even though you don't really need a high intelligence level to understand them. I watched "Battle Royale" recently for the first time in a couple of years and that's renewed my passion for it, because it has one of those strong storylines you like to get addicted to. I'm tempted to watch the sequel "Battle Royale II: Requiem" but I've heard that it's no-where near as good as first one, that it's not even good at all. :( Shame, it would have been good to have worthy a sequel.
I also saw a trailer for a Korean film called "Old Boy". It looked good, so I bought the DVD. Now this film is pretty cool if your into your revenge based violence kind of thing, but I also like the depth and complexity of the story line which leaves you thinking about what and why things happened long after the film has finished.
Now you've heard my say, what about you?

The Battle Royale movies are some personal favourites of mine but the two which edge these two out are 'Guitar Wolf: Wild Zero' and 'My Wife is a Gangster' which are both hilarious in their own ways.
Guitar Wolf is similar to 'Shaun of the Dead' with being Rom-Zom-Com but takes it further by adding Aliens and Rock n' Roll. The Captian is the ultimate Villian because he is the first villian I've ever seen which can wear Tight, Short-Shorts which matches with a badbowl cut and still be awesome.
And it has some classic quotes........

Guitar Wolf: "Love has no borders, nationalities, or genders! ". That damn quote, It always cracks me up.

ooo I love Ueto Aya. I wanted to see her in Azumi for the longest time, but never really got around to searching for it.

I've seen both Battle Royale's. After watching the first one, I had a respect for it, but I wasn't as interested in it as most of my friends. The second one had me terribly bored and tired. I pretty much wanted the last six hours of my life back. No, it wasn't six hours long, it just felt like it was.

A movie I saw recently which I loved is Kamikaze Girls. Not really a deep movie with a plot to get you thinking, but an innocent comedy about two girls becoming friends. It has a great use of animation and it breaks down the fourth wall pretty naturally.
Not only that, Fukada is just beautiful.
