Power of Runes... [M-LVS]

This is just a somewhat freeform, off-the-sleeve RP that may require some flexibility...

[u][b]THE STORY:[/b][/u]

[i][color=green]Somewhere...

There is a world governed by magical runestones, called the Thorrim. Their power was what directed the natural balance of life on the planet, and they soon became essential for everyday life.

However...

Secret societies coveted this power, and the shadowy hand of governmental forces stretched outward, seeking the magical stones that would influence a nation's status.

The world is being overrun by chaos, as more and more of these runes are being found and studied, then utilized. The results could be disastrous.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?[/i][/color]

[b][u]RACES:[/u][/b]

Remember that races are balanced, in terms of stats. There is no "Dominant Class", just ones that work well for you. Choose wisely.

[u]Huma[/u]: Basically, a normal human. They are capable of being powerful warriors, and cunning politicians. They, however, do not often posess the patience necessary to master the ways of magick. They spearheaded the Industrial revolution, and are proficient at using guns and other machinery. Huma are generally tolerated.

[u]Mahrim[/u]: A humanoid cat-human. Their overwhelming traits are their speed and agility. Their strength is somewhat atrophied as a result. Though they are capable of being as strong as a human being, it is often useless to them, due to their proficiency with all hand-to-hand weapons. Mahrim are often distrusted, as many of them are thieves and assassins.

[u]Velati[/u]: A small humanoid creature, born with a natural inclination toward the magickal arts. They have taken magick to a new and more complex level, making it a more scientific practice. They have mastered the combinations of different elemental control. They are widely respected and revered for their skills, and because they comprise many of the members of government.

[u]Wilder[/u]: Rarely, a highly advanced genetic mutation appears in the offspring of Huma. This produces a "Wilder", or an innate magic user. They are often weakened by the mutation, but are gifted with bizarre and powerful magical abilities that rival, and in some cases, surpass that of the Velati. A Wilder is distrusted, but often has many close friends due to his useful nature.

[u]Raaki[/u]: They bear a strong resemblance to the Velati in all aspects save for magick use and fashion. A Raaki is often inclined towards divine worship, or clericism, preferring the divine power of God to the seemingly scientific powers of magick. Their dress is often extravagant, but less colorful than that of the Velati. They also suffer less from the physical atrophy that is comman among the Velati, many being powerful warriors for their faith. They are widely respected, and always befriended easily.

[u]Thuma[/u]: What looks like an incredibly large and muscular human. They are incredibly strong, and able to use heavy or two-handed weapons in each hand. They are completely inept when it comes to magick, so many defer to shamanistic practices. They comprise the working class, and thug population of most cities. They are feared by their enemies, and greatly appreciated by their allies.

[u]Slake[/u]: Human sized lizardmen. They are strong, but instead of deferring to strength, they defer to their incredible knowledge of machinery and technology. They pioneered the Machinum revolution, which included the use of beam weapons and laser technology. They are extremely proficient at the use of energy weapons, and have since created some very interesting technology. They are appreciated, but many are not tolerated.

[u]Revolutionary[/u]: Basically, opposed to the government.

[u]Government[/u]: You seek the power of the runestones... but why?

[u]Secret Society[/u]: You can choose from one of these societies-

Rosecrucian - You seek the Runestones that govern magick.
Illuminati - You seek divine Runestones that govern healing power.
Technolyte - You seek runestones that govern technology.
Acolyte - You seek runestones that govern strength and physical power.

(Secret society members can join forces, even cross-society.)

[u]Vagabond[/u]: You're a drifter, and tend to travel in small groups. You may pursue the Runestones, and you may not. Most times, you follow your own path through the story, but you have very little plugging space.

[B]Class:[/B] Assassin. Leviiril is highly skilled in weaponry and the art of terminating (inside phrase, pretty much means that she knows the best ways to kill a person in certain situations). She also dabbles in magick, but only uses that of the element of ice.
[B]Weapon of Choice:[/B] Scythe
[B]Personality: [/B] Leviiril is best classified as short-tempered. She's a very serious/no-nonsense girl who is overly passionate about anything she does.
[B]Appearance: [/B] Stands at 5`9 ft. and weighs approximately 115 lbs. She has a thin, graceful figure that is slightly muscular and curves at all of the right places. Her hair, which is kept in a loose black ribbon, and fur are a creamy-white with dark brown tips on her ears and tail. Her ears in question are long and pointy and grow from the same location that the humas' ears do. Her cat-eyes are golden with olive flecks. She wears a loose, black silk, long-sleeved top that tucks into a loose pair of black, knee-length shorts. She prefers to go barefoot
[B]Bio:[/B] An assassin for the government at first, Leviiril switched sides when she was told to kill her own kin because they were interfering. Now she travels around, putting a stop to those who do the government's doing.

Alignment: Secret Society Technolyte
Class: Mech, She loves to work with her hands and her mind, although it doesn?t pay much she picks up the lag with her skills as a thief and sometimes diving for lost items in a popular lake or river. She doesn?t like magick at all but tries to hide that fact.
Weapon of Choice: Though she has some beam weapons she prefers to use a katana and her hands.

Personality: Bubbly she loves to have fun and if she can annoy or mentally scar someone in the process all the better. The fact that nearly no one likes her doesn?t faze her at all. Outgoing she?ll tell you what she thinks and probably add in a sarcastic comment with it.
Appearance: Stands a little over six foot and is thin and willowy but graceful. She usually wears a large loose blue shirt that nearly reaches her knees under that is a pair of pants that are snug but a bit loose tucked into a pair of knee high boots. She has no hair but instead a row of short spikes about a two inches tall on the top of her head give the appearance of a mow hawk that runs down to her shoulders. The rest of her is covered in black scales that are spotted ash grey in places her eyes are a light blue and around them are graceful dark red lines leading back to her ears (kinda like the Egyptian eyes). Her ears are pointed like an elf?s and have about 5 earrings in each, more then usually she wears a hat and has a silver choker around her neck and a few silver bracelets and anklets when she dives.

Bio: Though she works for the Technolytes she could care less for them. They accepted her into their group after they found some of her works with several gangs. Before that she had mainly relied on her thieving abilities. She only learned of the ruins after they accepted her into the society and decided to grab them for herself.

Class: A jack of all traids...but a thief, first and formost.
Weapon of Choice: Two Thief daggers, one in each hand, like Zidane from FFIX, but is also effective with projectiles, like throwing stars, etc.

Personality: Basically, he keeps to himself, and hides his emotions from others with ease...but he's always on the brink of exploding, and beware anyone who's around.

Appearance: His body is purrr-fect...for a Mahrim Vagabond, that is. The battle-torn body has seen its share of cuts, bruses, and near-fatal gashes, yet his smokey-gray fur is always neet, but rarely clean. His blue eyes are sensual, yet deadly at the same time, adding to his mysterious appeal. His tail has been severed really close to his body, and the tip of his left ear was burned off. His clothing is simple: ragged, black cargo pants, with pockets filled with nasties, a dark red vest-trench, flowing to the middle of his knees, black gauntlets, and blood red wrappings around his ankles, as his feet are bare.

Bio: Jar was born like many Mahrim are: into a life of crime and elusion. When he was 14, the year after his parents had been captured and killed, he had his first run-in with the government. The Revolutionists saved him from certain death, but he was, well, less than gratefull. In fact, you could say that he was downright pi$$ed. He never really accepted help from anyone, and just ignored the ones who did help. From that day forth, he vowed to never rely on anyone, and to oppose anyone that stood in his way. On the other hand, he worked for anyone who would have him, but then he would rip them off, leaving nothing in his wake but an air of dispare. His travel companion was a fellow male Mahrim named Ayli, but Jar murdered him for looking at him the wrong way. That was his life up until now, but something happened that changed his life forever...and it has something to do with the ancient ruins he's been hearing about lately, and the lovely Mahrim staying at the Inn across the street from his...

Good posts, so far! I guess it's my turn to character! (Remember, I'm listening to a fairly sad song... So my character my be inclined sadly... Oh, and excuse my use of a God's name. I'm scrapped for names.)

Alignment: Vagabond
Class: Immolator (Wielder of the dark flame. His power is so advanced in this field that he can cause his shashkas, and just about anything else he touches, to be imbued with a black flame. He can manipulate the dark flame in any way he pleases, whether it be a projectile, a weapon, or a shield. He is proficient with the use of shahskas.
Weapon of Choice: Two long[URL=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shashka] Shashkas[/URL].

Personality: A fairly unusual person. He is an excellent fighter, being quick enough to make up for his physical weakness. He is swift and relentless in battle, but outside, he is very introverted. He is polite, and careful with his words.
Appearance: Tall, with black hair that runs past his shoulders. His skin is pale, and his eyes are red. He wears dark sunglassed, and a long black leather trenchcoat.

Bio: Not much is known about Tyr, but then again, Wilders are not often inclined to speak of their dark and unsavoury pasts. He only wants to stop the fighting. He could care less about the runestones.

Class: Adapter, as she has been called by her colleagues. What that means is that she has an innate sense of how a piece of technology, new or old, should work. As soon as she so much as touches the unknown object, she immediately has the knowledge of how it should work. Then, she takes that knowledge, synthesizes with that she already knows, and can use it as skillfully as if she had known that tool from the very start.

Weapon of Choice: Her weapon is an antique gun--a pistol with a five inch barrel and the initials 'M. J. Tanner' written on it in stylized engravings. She simply refers to the gun as 'Tanner'.

She's excellent with beam weapons, but she finds them too new for her tastes. What draws her to the antique weapons, Tanner in particular, is the stories they have to tell.

Personality: Nana appears to be the calm, quiet sort on first glance, but underneath the guise lies an eccentric girl with a quick temper. She is an avid collector of old books and weapons, and is very picky about them. Mostly, she gets along with people, but she doesn't always think things through and winds up in trouble frequently.

Appearance: Nana stands at a little over five feet, has a slim, slightly curved figure that she hides underneath boyish clothing, and manages to maintain her charm even when she's covered in dirt from her work. As a wilder, her 'talents' were accompanied by a minor physical manifestation: Golden eyes and dark grey hair. She keeps her hair clipped short, mostly because it's functional that way, and it is slightly wavy so that it frames her face and feathers lightly around her ears and neck. Of course, due to her work, she is rarely seen without her trusty pair of goggles with which she uses to protect her eyes.

Bio: Nana isn't the sort to dwell on the past, and if she does it's in the form of her collectables. All she ultimately lets on to people is that the government wanted to use her for her benefit, considering her skill with technology. She doesn't really care about the runes, but when faced with choosing a side she stayed where she was most comfortable, with the Technolytes.

Alignment: Secret Society Technolyte/ Slake Government
Class: Ambassabor to the Secret Society Council when he is needed. Also is a Thuma Slayer, which is someone who targets everyone of that race and has made it his sworn duty/or has been ordered to by someone else to kill them all. Is also a member of the Lin Sharkan group, a group of skilled warriors who control a type of ice that is extremely hard to melt.
Weapons of Choice: several baton looking devices that create beam versoins of weapons. Also has a staff that does the same. Has two pistol looking devices that fire energy beams.
Weapon Style: Long arm(spears, halbreds, ect.) and swords.
Personality: Militaristic in every way. Looks down on most people unless they have done something for him or can help him out later or if they have an intrest in technology. Exremely smart and can fix almsot anything

Bio: Being a Slayer. His hands are stained with the blood of many Thuma. He has made it his life's work to take the Slake race to the top. He knows that with the help of the runes they can achieve that. He became involved with the Secret society so he can gather all of the tech runes for the Slake and take out anyone, who could pose a threat to him or his race later on down the road. He has extremely high status in the Slake army and goverenment and has been given another job that he must fufill. To find a female Slake known as Ashcraft for certain reasons and to find any other technolytes, Slakes, or anyone else that could be of use. But he has hidden motives that conflict with his orders.

Weapon Style: Small, light weight weaponry

Personality: He bares the wisdom of one who has been a great distance and seen many scenes of joy and horror. He is light hearted in his tones and is a kind hearted person. That is with the exception of work. He is a no nonsense worker, since he's a mercenary by trade, doing anything for the right price, he can't afford a light hearted approach to his work. He is a bit of a ladies man at times, but rarley is he ever serious and has no intentions for starting a serious relationship.

Bio: Born to a family who lived a very similar life to his own. It was the curse of his kind, they only found salvation in destruction and death. He was brought up by his mother and his father was absent from the equation. He had no siblings and was on his own quite a bit. His mother was wise, but none to nuturing. He was often forced to cope with life on his own, dealing with the problems that ones parents should help you deal with. He left his mother at the age of 13, she never bother to come after him and he never botherd to return to her. Once gone he quickly took on his life as a merc, doing whatever was asked of him as long as the money was enough. Doing this from so early on forced him to see a great many tragedies, he learned many cruel truths to the world that someone shouldn't ever have to learn.

This post is well balanced so far! I think we only need one more girl... It's been Mahrim, Wilder, and Slake all the way! ^.^ Perhaps some diversity, folks? (Don't change your races, though. It's okay.)

Anyway, I am quite satisfied with the posts as they are, and I hope we get one or two new people (PLEASE be some other society... if we have all technolytes this post might fall on its face...)

Name: Kanya
Age: 19
Sex: Female
Race: Velati
Alignment: Revolutionary
Class: Druid/ Spirit summoner-She can control most animals, but a few that are more violent in nature, she has no power over. When she summons, she can summon the spirits that consist in her blade. This includes the soul of a white wolf, and the soul of a deadly white dragon. Both of these animals are what created the sword.

Weapon of Choice: The sword in the pic.
Weapon Style (optional): She hunches over a little, holding the sword, blade up. She points the tip at her target, and holds it over her head. She will most likely charge before her target.

Personality: She is very calm and happy. She loves the nature, and it shows. If an animal is hurt or dead, she will begin to cry. She prefers it when she is not alone. She likes having someone to talk to, wether it be a human, or animal.

Appearance: Below. The spirit is the her dragon spirt. It only has one head though, and she has no ears.

Bio: She grew up in a government type home. Her father was a major part of the political sceene, yet she hated it for some reason. She could not understand why, but whenever she got around people that had to do with the government, she felt a strange feeling in her stomach, one of hatred and sorrow.

As she grew, she became more involved in the teachings of a nearby villager, his name Shoen. He was a strong Velati that had powers over animals. Whenever she came over, he would always show her what animals that he helped during the day. This would always brighten her day. After about two months, she asked him if he would teach her in the ways of the druid.

He was delighted at this, and her training started the next day. For two years, he taught her, then something horrible happened. Her father came into Shoen's home and grabbed Kanya by the arm. He took her outside and started yelling at her. As they faught, a loud crash was heard inside.

Kanya ran inside and saw the two soldiers that had come with her father beating the dead body of her master, Shoen. She went livid, animals began to storm the house, killing the two soldiers. She then turned to her father, the expression on his face filled with terror.

She spoke not only for her, but for Shoen's spirit that had flown into her at the last second, "The day shall come. The day that your own blood will teach you of your terrors. That day, it shall be left for you and only you."

Kanya walked past her father into Shoen's home and grabbed the sword that stayed on his mantle. It was the sword of the Wolf and Dragon. The then turned back around and walked straight into the forrest, never to return to her home until she decided it was time for her to teach her father a lesson.

class: Adaptor meaning she'll do what she has to do for what she believes in. And to protect her friends, family and the innocent.

Weapon of choice: Sais

Personality: Tries to hide and and hold in feelings and emotions. But this does lead to break downs. Isn't too good and hiding her feelinngs though. Her friends seem to always know....sometimes they can be wrong. Wants friends but is scared at the same time.

Apperance: Pretty. Her fur is brown,orange,black mixed. A brindel colour. Almost tigger like with stripes. Her clothes are usually jean and leather.....but whatever she can find on her way with have to do.
Her eyes are bright yellow. She is 5 foot 5 and slim but well built.

Bio: Her life was pretty good. She had a loving home with her family and friends. But when her fathers secrect identity in the government was leaked out ( she was 15)her house was attacked. She was taken but managed to escape her captors of whom she is still not sure who they all are but is still running from them. She started a new life helping and healing others whereever she went. Seen as a loner of sorts but a gentel creature. However, helping others and getting involved in their problems gets her into trouble but she nevers turns her back on a friend. Making her sometimes to good and too NICE FOR HER OWN DAMN GOOD! Will she ever learn? Still uncertain of her families satuues. But frears the worse.One of her travels led her to a tiny village. She tried keeping to herself. However, she caugh the attention of a hansome Mahrim...named Jar......

[b]Weapon of Choice:[/b] Twin cesti, made of light but very strong metal. Should fighting get serious and taking a life is required, deadly, crackling energy blades sprout from them.
[b]Weapon Style:[/b] Scary fights with Mahrim-like speed and the fluidity of a kung-fu master. He mostly uses his fists, but his kicks are also effective due to the clawed feet of his race.

[b]Personality:[/b] He's a loose cannon, spiteful of all authority, hence his revolutionary standing. You'll rarely see him without a grin on his face and a gleam in his eye, both of which could mean very bad things for you. He has poor impulse control. He's been thinking about getting that tatooed on his forehead.
[b]Appearance:[/b] He's a pretty good-looking Skale, if he says so himself, which he does. He's about 6 foot, his scales are deep green flecked with black, and his eyes are a brilliant gold. As for clothes, check out [URL=http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/witchhunters/catalog/retinue.htm][u]the dude in the center,[/u][/URL] just with a shorter hat (but just as wide), fist weapons, and the whole Skale thing.

[b]Bio:[/b] Growing up orphaned in the harsh streets of Balthasar, Scary quickly learned how to survive. He was taken in by an old, masterful Mahrim who owned a dojo. The old Mahrim taught him the Ways of the Fist until he was mercilessly and unjustly gunned down by government lapdogs. From that day forward, Eskari honed his skills, swearing to avenge the kindly old man.

Weapon of Choice: A Short Stumpy Broadsword with the Escaran Clans emblem carved into the hilt of the blade.

Weapon Style: Forgiver-Blade Style. Hix is a relativly poor swordsman because his style is improvised on the spot at times. He is good enouigh to get by but thats all.

Personality:
Hix is a very sad case; Emotionally fragile and quick to pick a fight after the stress of his clan being destroyed because of his arrogance. He has become quick to anger and very dark and bitter because he blames himself for the deaths of his people.


Biography: Hix Escaran was the leader of his clan for a short time before they were wiped off of the face of the lands, while he was on a Diplomatic mission, by an unknown force.
His clan had always obeyed the orders of the Goverment-led mandate although only half-heartadly because the mandate called for things such as the gathering all of the Runes in the avaliable and giving them to the Goverment. Escaran openly denied the Mandate and his Clan paid for his arrogance.

In his fury against the Goverment for the deaths of his Escaran Kin He took up his sword and begun to fight against them whlie forever bearing his clans rune which was hidden within the hilt within his Broadsword.
So far he has revealed nothing else about his past to the group of people he has aligned himself with but it is fair because everyone else in the group are tightlipped about heir past also.

Class: Viking (Warrior)

Weapon of Choice: Thorkell's main weapon of choice is a battleaxe, but occasionally he'll use a sword or a spear.

Weapon Style: The "I've got an impossibly huge battleaxe that I'm gonna PWN you in the face with" style.

Personality: Thorkell. 'Nuff said.

Appearance: Thorkell is a large man, thanks to his Thuma heritage. He has long, wily blonde hair and a beard that he's quite fond of. His eyes are ice blue. Thorkell is almost always wearing his battlegear, and said battlegear consists of leather and steel. He is clad in leather shoulderpads, leg bracers, belt (with steel studs), and gauntlets (which are adorned with steel spikes), as well as steel leggings, boots, and a steel chestplate. The detailing on his steel equipment is laguered crimson. A crimson wolf's face graces his chestplate, and a billowing crimson cape tops it all off.

Here's a little representation I made with [URL=http://www.ugo.com/channels/comics/heroMachine2/heromachine2.asp]HeroMachine 2.0[/URL]. He [I]should[/I] be holding a sweet battleaxe, but the only axe option was kind of shmeh, so I opted for the sword as far as this picture goes:

Bio: Thorkell grew up in the grim and frostbitten North. The wilderness had as big a part in his upbringing as his parents and mentors. The frozen winds and rugged mountains shaped him into a hardy man and a powerful warrior. The woods imbued him with a strong connection to nature. The seas gave him a sense of adventure.

Eventually, Thorkell's adventurous nature led him out of the North. He wanted to explore the exotic lands of the Not-So-North and the Not-Quite-As-Grim-And-Frostbitten. Off he went, trusty battleaxe and bastard sword by his sides.

As the story of the Runes was revealed to him, he couldn't help but be intrigued. The runes did, after all, originate in the North - thus he felt an attatchment to this Runic business. He aligned himself with the Acolytes, as he relies greatly on strength in battle, thus the Runes of Might would obviously help his cause.

Personality: Ryu is a very kind hearted young man a bit necklace at times. He never takes anything serious. Ryu challenges Authority at every chance he get?s. he can always be found gazing at the moon longing to be free. The only time he seems not to be himself is after he takes a life. He wants nothing more then to live a life fun of fun where noone gets hurt especially at his hands.

Bio: Ryu was born an orphan he never knew his family he only knew instructors and commanders. He was brought up in a government facility as part of an experiment that basically took children of each race and trained them as a seven man team. They slept ate and trained together for 18 years. Each one having their own unique fighting styles and weapons. Do to Ryu?s natural speed and agility he choose the ninja arts. Ryu and the others were sent on missions since the age of 14 they could kill a man with no hesitation no thought and no mercy. About two years ago Ryu was being sent on a Reconnaissance mission. The man Ryu had come to know as his best friend and mentor slipped a CD into his Inryo that simply stated to run. The Experiment was being scraped they had no use for any of the orphans who now began to develop a mind of their own. Ryu fled with The help of his Teacher Bugui Natsuri. He?s been on the run ever since and to make matters worst the government is using his 6 counterparts to hunt him down.
